the 1.1.4 much better, but if u compared 2.0.1, it almost the same
2.0.1 currently the best firmware compared to 2.0 & 2.0.2 smile.gif

after the error pop out disconnect your iphone then connect it back.

itunes will detect your iphone in recovery mode.

use iLiberty to kick your iphone from recovery mode.

If you need sms forwarding, MMS etc..just stay with fw 1.1.4.

Not sure if you have this guide to downgrade but here you go.

20-to-114-Downgrade

Like gengstapo mentioned, fw 2.0.1 is really stable and most of us are on fw 2.0.1.

1.1.4 has always been proven to be stable. however if purchasing legal apps is your cup of tea, then better upgrade forward.

owww...bout downgrading the firmware from 2.0.1 to 1.1.4, yes i also got prob to do that. most of people here will tell bout guide on downgrading from 2.0 to 1.1.4, but still it can't be achieved with 2.0.1. recovery mode, DFU mode, still it can't be recovered to 1.1.4. the furthest i can go is get the old iTunes and cable logo on the screen (the 1.1.4 restore display). i even tried iLiberty and when it does the ramdisk exploit on the iPhone, it showed 'not found' something like that many times on the iPhone display (the scrolling text). so i think the installation of 1.1.4 isn't successful. not only that, i've tried stock 1.1.4 firmware and still it doesn't work.

if someone here successfully downgraded 2.0.1 to 1.1.4 please let me know. thanks.

Restore to 2.0 (from 2.0.1 or 2.0.2) first then 1.1.4 following the guide for 2.0 to 1.1.4.

i downgrade 2 iphone already from 2.0 to 1.1.4.

restore 1.1.4. using 7.5 iTunes will end up by error 1XXX (didn't remember) if using DFU mode.

I've just recently upgraded my 1.1.4 1st gen iphone 8GB to 2.0.2 >>

My iphone has only two screens of icons, maybe 3G of music, less than 100MBs of pictures or less and the rest is empty (never found anything worth installing..permanently)

1. Typing SMS and emails are slightly sluggish and slow.

2. Safari is much snappier and more responsive (previous 1.1.4 gets slowwwwwer when i open more than 2 pages at a time)

3. Discovery and switch to my home wifi seems to be much faster.

4. App store is a nice addition (bought 1 app... will probably get the Simcity game if it looks good -- http://www.macworld.com/article/132428/2008/03/spore.html

5. Remote app is dead easy and fun to use. (free app)

6. It takes slightly longer to restart on 2.0.2. ( I did that every night on my 1.1.4 -- dun wan people to call me when i sleep maaaa)

7. Sync takes slightly longer since iTunes 7.7 will now backup my entire iphone info (with all my free and paid apps)

With rumours thats swirling around about an imminent 2.1 update, I think the best option is wait and see... there might be plenty of goodies and some stability issues that will be ironed out. Or not.
