actually, i personally think the survival rate of blu-ray totally depends on whether there will be a newer technology to compete with blu-ray.

right now, we have 50gb blu-ray discs right? and there's news of the 400gb blu-ray being manufactured if i'm not mistaken?

so the current factor allowing us to enjoy HQ, HD content is space size to allow uncompressed data on the disc. like i said, unless they come out with newer technology, maybe a newer laser tech for instance, the blu-ray format is still here to stay.

one of the many reasons it won over HD-DVD; future proofed.

correct me if i'm wrong though.

technology is always evolving. if you're asking why are we buying hdmi for, and not display port, then in the end you will never buy anything in the first place. there's always some better tech coming out, so no point to 'wait and go for the best'.

unless it's future proofed then yeah, why not you wait.

to me, HDMI is a better jump for digital connections, so I'd say no regrets in investing in this tech.

but hey, i'm not a technology genius so what do I know.
