Core speed correspond to the vGPU provided. 700 core on 4850GS is easy on every cards. I don't see why a 700Mhz factory-overclocked card is better than a reference card by only the core but not the PCB and phase power.
*
I'm not sure if the voltage of the 4850GS changed or not, but I did check the profile and it looks already. Or only the changes in BIOS matters? I didn't look into the BIOS of the 4850GS.

QUOTE(kevyeoh @ Oct 8 2008, 10:33 PM)
they can sort the chips by binning the speed, hence handpicking... wink.gif

all automatically tested and sorted according to speed... won't slow down anything....
*
Finally someone who knows what I'm talking thumbup.gif

On the side note, all 4850 reference can run 700MHz stable? There are bound to be some that can't do that, those which can is a better card. Not all chips are manufactured equally, each and every have different limit.

well but from the posts i read, seems like the card replacement for RMA is out of stock? meaning alot of ppl RMA until no stock to replace?  hmm.gif

QUOTE(jimmy_none @ Oct 9 2008, 12:02 AM)
this i can't give you an exact answer....it could be various reasons besides ppl RMA...will just have to wait till netraid get back tml to answer it...
*
Well, I called on Tuesday (to confirm my card arriving at their place...) and was told no stock for exchange anymore. Need wait for the new stock incoming earliest 15th October 2008. If anyone could change earlier... then I'm going to go vmad.gif

Yupe, my 4850 fer cannot even surpass 680Mhz with 3rd party cooler & decent PSU.  doh.gif

mine 4850 ref oced to 690 core 1108 mem.stable..need 3rd party cooler?costly for me

Thanks for the input! This shows that not all RV770 can hit 700MHz, which probably means those 4850GS, that is able to hit 700MHz are probably handpicked chips that are able to at least perform at 700MHz stock biggrin.gif.

We want to state clearly that the LATEST batch (Sep 18th onwards) of Gainward 4850 Golden Sample and Custom Cover will NOT have this problem.

THIS EXCHANGE PROGRAM WILL END ON 15-OCT-2008. PLEASE SEND YOUR CARD BACK ASAP.
YES guys, it is nickel plated, same like Gainward 4870 GS. We already said the latest Gainward 4850 GS is an IMPROVED version, cooler and faster.  icon_idea.gif
Gainward are well-known for overclocking & customizing graphics cards.  thumbup.gif

Well, I guess good R&D done on the card still has problem due to unstable chip isn't it? R&D is important, but the chip itself is also important. Good R&D + unstable chip still = problematic card.

Else what caused some of the first batch 4850GS to fail?

I think maybe the quantity of cards that really unstable is even more less than 16,
try to imagine if an old batch 4850gs user heard that the news of old batch 4850gs got problem will they exchange their card?
Futhermore the new batch also come with some improvement drool.gif
Anyways Gainward is so generous to offer us the exchange rolleyes.gif
*
Well, that might be the case. But depends on the person I suppose, if mine were to be faulty free I won't bother exchanging it. Need to post >.< and takes time haiz. And without a GC my new PC can't work ._.

Did you connect the 6 pin power connector to the card? This is the usual error message if you didn't connect it.

That one comes from your PSU, there should be a 6pin PCI-E connector lying around. If your PSU doesn't have it... see if your GC provided a 4pin -> 6pin convertor or not.

If you got extra 300 lying around, 4870GS biggrin.gif. Else 4850GS. 4870 might be better la, can game on bigger LCD screens.

My friend has an X2, stock clocked. I forgot which range, 5000-6000 one of these. His SM2.0 and SM3.0 scores lower than my card (4850GS) ._. Bottleneck already right?

Unless 5000 series does another 4000 series performance leap... else it won't be worth it la.. 4000 is a big leap from the 3000.

Change ur proc to intel la tongue.gif. Q6600 seems great if you're an overclocker le.

ya converter ... ide to 6 pin! ... if 22 to 24 le? 4870 better a ? T.T

24 inch will make 4870 crawl already, you will appreciate 4870x2 by then laugh.gif

lotiman2003, Nvidia 9 series is a failure (or most of the cards in that series.) since they are basically a 8 series with slightly newer features and new packaging + name.

No bottleneck even if it's v1.1?
*
There will be bottleneck due to the interface, I'm not quite sure for the 4870, but for 4850 the difference is like 1-2%? Might be a bit more for the 4870 perhaps. (read somewhere, the person was testing with x8, x4 and x2 lanes on the 2.0)

QUOTE(nujo87 @ Oct 11 2008, 11:57 PM)
Although u cant using 4870 to full now,but in around 3 month+ im sure u will tongue.gif

And at that time u need to change back to 19"? sweat.gif
If bigger Screen using lower resolution=less detail

Added on October 12, 2008, 12:53 amTried of gaming today, juz now im trying to test my 4850GS abit(OC)

-1st i OC the corespeed to 750mhz n run furmark at 1440x900 8XAA doh.gif Dissapointed only giving less than 2% boost.
-Then i turned the corespeed down to 700mhz,n OC memory speed from 1.1k to 1150mhz,wow this time like 9-10% improvement.
-Then i try again to OC both corespeed n memory speed to 750/1150 n its giving me total 11% increase compare to stock speed.

N seriously i would like to OC my memory a lil more,to maybe 1200mhz,because >1200=bottleneck....
for the corespeed i will only make it like 730mhz

But the problem is the overdrive only let me to OC to 1150mhz max(memory speed)so is there anyone like coolie or expert tried to OC more than 1150?1200 then i satify ga la tongue.gif
*
Try using vantage or 3dmark06 for benchmarking, more accurate. Use another software to OC instead of the overdrive to get past the limit, and 750MHz core = 4870's stock speed tongue.gif. Only thing difference is the memory used, kena bottleneck there =/
