QUOTE(minmin @ Oct 1 2008, 11:28 AM) copper is more on orange color while the nickel is more on steel color right? nickel has a lot lower temp These are still copper heatpipes, just that it is nickel plated to look nicer.

seriously, the 4870GS's TURBO switch has probably got to be one of the most stupid "innovation" i ever seen on a graphic card.
it's damn small. it's situated at a corner that is easily blocked by the PCI slot holder. and the hassle of TURBO / NORMAL is makes it only 25mhz diff on core and 50mhz on memory. WTH!?!?!

QUOTE(spideysam @ Oct 1 2008, 01:42 PM) hmmm... lol.. nickel plated.. lol... nickel cant transfer heat better than copper ar.. lol my chemistry not tat geng.. lol It is just plated on the outside. The heatpipe is not for transfering heat to the environment but instead to the fins. The parts in contact with the fins are not nickelplated I think.

QUOTE(tesla_rage @ Oct 1 2008, 10:30 AM) Notice the nickel plated heatpipes as opposed to copper heatpipes. [attachmentid=612201] the 2nd screenshot shows the lower idle temp. hope this helps someone. [attachmentid=612200] The card reminds me of Dark Knight (Batman)
