Cold water does not worsen your cough, in fact, it creates a cooling and soothing effect to relief the coughing. However, water that is too cold will irritate your airway, causing you to cough more.

Drinking warm water also has the same properties towards your coughing. It reduces the irritation in your throat making you feel better. Hot water on the other hand is not advisable to be taken when you have a serious cough, it'll hurt your throat very badly.

In conclusion, warm and cool water is the best when you suffer from a dry cough but too hot or too cold might worsen it.

yeah because the cold water will tend to constrict ur respiratory system and disturbs the mucosa secretion. that's why.

cold water may cause further irritation to the airway, hence worsen the cough.

warm water may have soothing effect to the throat hence could alleviate the coughing.

both particularly to productive cough.

there are two types of cough, productive/wet cough and dry cough.

most usually cough is developed following a series of flu or cold. since some cough caused by the cold, drinking cold water will further cause the body to be cooler and sending signal to the brain that you are still in cold, and hence worsening the cough indirectly.
