I have got a question, my college (Trinity College: Melb.U) wants me to send in the declaration form so list down my preferential uni and courses...

my question is, is i apply to say 4 uni's, but i only go to 1 (well duhh!!) what will happen to my information in the other 3 uni's????
*
The purpose of the declaration form is to enable TC to send your results to the different unis you applied to. The unis will consider your preferences based on your results. If you make the grade, they will send you an offer letter. Then, you can pick which uni you would like to go to in the end.

Good luck with term 3 exams!

thanks guys.

Can i pay the international fees for the first 2 years and for the 3rd and 4th year, after i get my PR, i pay the fees as local student there?

There is so much difference between international student tuition fees and local student student fees  ohmy.gif

Please please australian universities, send me some offer LOL
*
Your chances on getting a PR are close to 0, unless:

1. You already have an undergraduate degree and get over 120 points (refer to December88's post)
2. You have no more immediate family members back in your home country (ie. your family has migrated to Australia)
3. You are a refugee

QUOTE(limeuu @ Sep 17 2008, 05:35 PM)
how do you propose to become a pr? you will not be eligible to apply as a student, you will not get enough points......if your family (ie parents) is applying, then when you get the pr, you can then inform them and you will only need to pay 'commonwealth supported places' prices........

however note that for some very restricted courses, like medicine, you cannot convert to local student status......as you may deemed not entitled.......ie, if they judge you not eligible for a medical seat if you are local, as it is generally easier (ie with lower ter scores) for international students to enter medicine than locals.......

Added on September 17, 2008, 5:55 pm
note that honours in oz is an extra year of study, NOT a measure of standard of achievement, as in the case of uk......ie, NOBODY gets an honours upon graduating from the basic course of study, no matter how well you do.......you then need to do an honours year, to get the honours attachment to you bachelor's degree.........
*
For all undergraduate courses in UniMelb, once you obtain a PR, you will be converted to Australian Full Fee place.
Then, if you are able to demonstrate high academic standards, you will be offered CSP.
Same goes for medicine (not sure about other unis), if you obtain a high average score.

QUOTE
Transfer to a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP)

The University of Melbourne allows transfers from Australian full fee to Commonwealth Supported Places after a student has successfully completed at least one year of study with exceptional results. In 2007, this level was set at H2A (75%) average.

taken from http://www.medicine.unimelb.edu.au/future/requirements.html

For degrees such as law or med, there is no opportunity to do an extra honours year, so if you do well, you will be awarded a degree with honours.

i have a problem...i need to study at least 2 years to be able to apply for PR in OZ..but UQ offers me from feb 09 - nov 10..it's less than 2 years.. short of 3 months..what can i do to prolong the period??  other than failing.. lulz
*
1. Do honours
2. Feb09-Nov 10 is considered 2 years of study. If you want to count it *your* way, then you'll have to minus off your summer, winter and mid-sem holidays which accumulates to about 4 months a year.
3. What course are you doing? Are you sure it is under the skilled occupation list? Most courses under the SOL requires at least 3 years of study, unless you're doing some TAFE course.

QUOTE(SeeD @ Nov 1 2008, 05:12 PM)
There's a way around the 2 years study to get PR.

If you only studied 1.5 years and you feel like staying in Australia, you can ask for another 18 months stay from DIAC.

During that stay you will be working and experience the most of yourself here in Australia. In the same time you must also apply your PR during that period. Then hopefully after 2 years of staying in Australia you can get your PR smile.gif
*
Doesn't work this way, you need 2 years of studying in Australia, not 2 years of staying in Australia. But, using this method, you can gain points for having work experience.

QUOTE(MeruChan @ Nov 1 2008, 05:17 PM)
Owhh what's DIAC??
thanks anyway!
*
Seriously, you are planning to study in Australia and have no idea what DIAC is?

So it's CATS a team?? lols...
*
Thats Geelong with the bluish and white stripes. They won the AFL grand final in 2007 and runner-up in 2008.

Quite a lot of teams have animal nicknames, Hawks, Roos, Lions...etc

You should go for a footy match with an Australian friend and he will explain all the rules and teams.

And did I mention that there this Tuesday is a public holiday because of Melbourne Cup...which some horse racing thing. A lot of my friends are planning on going to Flemington even though its the middle of swot vac. >.<

Yes...I have a friend with both UK and Australian citizenship.
Just get a PR (be willing to wait for at least a year to be processed)

hey hey ! if spm cincai study den get sucky result.
den enroll into a australia college then study with all my heart and soul and get a TER of 99.2
will i be able to be accepted into good australia universities like U SYD or UNSW?
will the universities demand to see my spm slip?
hopefully not hahah
*
No one cares about SPM. Its not a qualification to enter uni, just like UPSR or PMR.

But, SPM is easy. If you are unable to concentrate now, what makes you think that you will in college?

TER is a ranking. If you are planning on taking SAM, then you will also be ranked with local students from South Australia and Northern Territory.

Which means that a 99 TER requires to get about 90% average in your subjects.
(You only need 65% to get an A1 in SPM)

On side note, depending on your course of choice, it is also not hard to get into Australia Unis.
You only need about 85-90 TER to get into Bachelor of Commerce (ie 70-80% average)

If they want to give out scholarships, they would be advertising it so that they are able to choose the best students.

Calling them won't really help, unless you have some strings to pull

QUOTE(Lim Ling Yang @ Nov 10 2008, 12:37 PM)
Erm the person I talked to in IDP quite blur.....

What are the steps I must take now to accept the offer?
1. Renew passport(Expire adi lol.)
2.?
Info From IDP:
1. Renew passport
2. Pay 450 AUD for visa application
3. Summit the application and get a code
4. Go med check up
5. Get visa....
6. Then go there and pay first session tuition fee

Sounds....weird...

So when do I pay the Fee Deposit:
A$5,380.00 (single OSHC) or A$5,760.00 (family OSHC) or A$2,500.00
(Non-Award deposit)

Another question.
http://accom.anu.edu.au/UAS/977/207.html
Undergraduate accommodation. Which one do I apply for?

Erm? From the earlier comment I should take the self catered hall?

Any suggestions?
Or do I find my own accommodation once I reach there? Would that be cheaper?

Course: Bachelor Of Engineering 2009 1st Sem
*
1. Renew passport (only takes 24 hours)
2. Accept your offer (fill in any form sent to you by uni) and pay them some $$ (are you sure you have to pay 5 grand for oshc? My single oshc was only 1 grand and it lasts for 3 years)
3. Get your CoE
4. Apply for online visa, attach photocopies of your passport, birthcert, CoE, etc.
5. Get a medical exam (must be one doctors on the list)

*Make sure you get a plane ticket now or there won't be any more spots in February (unless you are planning on flying business class)
*For accommodation, its up to you. Do you want to have food provided? Do you want friends? Do you want to be close to uni? Or do you want it to be cheap?

I'll recommend a residential hall/college. I'm not too sure how it works at ANU, but for unimelb, we had to submit an online application with a handwritten statement and 2 referee reports. It might be competitive, so you need to decide quickly.

They always ask for your email, unless you applied through an agent where you entered the agent's email.

btw, wanna ask stg
"The phone will be locked to the Optus network – an $80 fee will apply for unlocking within the first 6 months, or for free after the user has recharged to the value of $80."
I don't understand this statement...does that means i must have $80 in my call credit or i have recharged more than $80 during my overall usage?"
*
That means that you will have to use your phone with the Optus sim card.

You will not be able to use the phone with another provider such as Vodaphone or 3 unless you get it 'unlocked'.

*
It doesn't really matter. Your $80 can be extra credit in your phone or it could already be used up. As long as you have paid $80, no matter what way you do it, you can unlock it for "free".

hey I have to get my parents to sign a under 18 consent form for me to get my visa. But my father is at overseas and will not be able to come back to sign. Is it ok if there just my mother's signature?
*
It is best to ask DIAC.
I'm not sure, but from my previous experiences, they are very strict with those under the age of 18. Or else, you just have to wait for your dad to arrive home or send him an e-copy and make him sign.

I'm student.

I open account at ANZ, two account ANZ online saver and ANZ access acount.

I'd like to know do they charge you for "NON-RESIDENT WTHLD TAX ON INTEREST PAID"?
*
In Australia, you are treated as an Australian when it comes to taxes.

You will be taxed if your income goes over $6000 p.a.

But, when you are earning quite a lot of interest, the bank will WITHHOLD some of your money (corresponding to how much you earn). At the end of the financial year (June/July), you will then be able to claim your money back in the event that you earned less than $6000pa.

This is also the same with your any of your employers.

Generally, if you getting more than $500 a month from a single source, some of your money will be withheld.

QUOTE(Mythras231 @ Dec 6 2008, 09:14 PM)
The best way is to fax or call them la ... Waiting for their email might be slow and frustrating
*
DIAC is actually quite efficient. You can observe that your visa will be approved quite quickly as soon as they receive all the documents. When I was applying for permission to work early this year, I had to give them some documents personally at their office (in Melbourne)....and I got my permit by 5pm that day itself.

As for the email queries, they usually answer in about 1-2 working days.

Since you are in Malaysia, the only 'interview' you have to go through is when the doctor asks you about your medical conditions.

No. You will need a CoE which comes once you've accepted your uni offer and pay your first installment of fees.

They won't grant you a visa if you are just 'potentially' going into Australia.

Why podiatry? Why not do something more general like med instead? There are about 20-75 international places for each uni in med.

Or if you can't make it, physiotherapy is an option.

New question

sorry  this is a really noob question but as u can see I am very very new to issues like student visas and so on.
like I applied my student visa through the electronic application ( e-visa ). When I get approved by the DIAC for my visa. They don't send me anything right? no paperwork no nothing right? to prove that I have an australia student visa.
It's just that when I go to the airport and they check my passport number they know that I have got a visa right?

SORRY AGAIN.. heheh
*
Perth is the offshore processing area. I think it actually gets sent to the Aussie High Comm in Malaysia first.

When your visa is approved, they will send you an email outlining all the conditions you need to fulfill. Just note down your visa number and thats it. They will already have all your details in their system.

Once you get your visa done, your main concern is what you can bring in- they are very strict on those.

Just paid my fee by bank draft today. Hopefully I can get my eCOE this wek so that I can apply for my visa and do my medical checkup. Hopefully I can get everything done as soon as possible because my ticket is on the 24th of December. sad.gif
*
10/12/08- sent bank draft
15/12/08- Bank draft received (assuming courier)
16/12/08- eCoE processed (assuming all fees correct, over 18, and the uni is efficient and staff aren't on christmas holidays)
16/12/08- evisa application started
17/12/08- medical check-up (assuming the doctor isn't busy)
22/12/08- medical check-up report received, all documents handed in, evisa approved

You better be living in KL, which means that your documents will be sent/received quickly, or else you are doomed.

You will be refused entry into Australia if your visa is not processed in time.

Good luck.

Conclusion: Do not leave things till last minute. You should have done this one month ago.

Booby,

It is best that you know that spoon-feeding/rote learning is not applicable in Australia.

I won't waste explaining in full detail what that means as that'll be just spoon feeding you. You'll understand once you are doing your first assignment.

In the mean time, try to search for things yourself. Google is your friend.
