Same,i was wondering why hihihehe didnt consider UNSW.

UNSW has the best engineering schools in Sydney.
*
Among the best engineering faculty in the world, i think i saw the faculty ranking was top 20 in the world. And your faculty definitely have the most engineering students and program also in australia.

QUOTE(hihihehe @ Sep 13 2008, 11:02 PM)
well based on my result i don think unsw will accept me..so i nvr think bout it
n im not taking any engineering course..just IT course
*
I think you should at least try, i know that most ppl applied at IDP to Group of 8 unis one shot, you don't have to pay application fees and etc, if you are accepted then you have a good/long deadline to consider which uni you wanna go in. Hence apply early, apply early then you have longer time to consider which uni offer you what, and most importantly IMO, ones you confirm then you can start hunting accomodation, trust me getting a good accomodation should be your no.1 priority after you are enrolled.

thanks guys.

Can i pay the international fees for the first 2 years and for the 3rd and 4th year, after i get my PR, i pay the fees as local student there?

There is so much difference between international student tuition fees and local student student fees  ohmy.gif

Please please australian universities, send me some offer LOL
*
very unlikely to be honest.
Please check the point system. trust me the first 60 points(half of the passing mark) itself you must at least have a degree (occupation nominated to be in short supplies). Unless your parents can get PR during your studies here then i guess you're eligible for local rate tertiary education, but not for all degrees, i know medicine is seriously hard to get subsided even if you get your PR one way or another, but it's not impossible.

If my memory serve me right: Passing Mark 120
Occupation on short supplies: 60points
Age:18 - 29 (i think) - 30 points
IELTS: Minimum Band 7 for each 4 components 25 points, otherwise 15 points
Minimum 2 years study in Aussie- 5 points, 15 points if you grad with a 2nd upper class honour for undergrad studies(minimum 3 years study in Aussie)
So don't play play with your IELTS get 7 each component then you get 25 points for free.

So you do the maths then

http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/booklets/books6.htm -download booklet6

btw the law will change according to australian needs. So if your occupation is not in the list now, then don't be sad, check back

QUOTE(yongyc @ Sep 25 2008, 07:14 PM)
I have the intention to apply for B.Engineering (Chemical Engineering) at the following universities.

Western Australia
1. University of Western Australia
2. Curtin University of Technology

Victoria
1. RMIT University

New South Wales
1. University of Newcastle

I am a person who is more geared towards learning through a lot of hands-on and practical work experience. My choice is to study in Western Australia

Question

1.  I would like to know if anyone out here could let me know which of the above universities are more geared towards such teaching in their B.Engineering (chemical engineering) course.

2. Which area (Western Australia, Melbourne, Newcastle) offer more opportunities for part-time work and/or industry placement in the engineering field.

3.  I have never been to Australia and therefore would appreciate any additional information with regards, lifestyle, people, etc in the above areas mentioned.  I would like to have your actual views instead of just depending on the university brochures.
Any other information is greatly appreciated.
*
Hmmm industry placement it really depends, you should be open to work in other states for work placement during your summer break. And please see the degree if working experience/internship is required in order to graduate in a bachelor of engineering.
Western Australia economy is booming now, they do need a lot of engineers actually, in general Australia need a lot of engineer to sustain the economy boom.

Anyone studying petroleum engineering in Australia?
*
Yeah me at Uni Adelaide.

QUOTE(Lemonfish @ Oct 2 2008, 01:14 PM)
From what I know, there is only 3 University that offers Petroleum ENgineering.
1. University of Adelaide (Reputable ENgineering School)
2. University of New South Wales (Largest Engineering Faculty in Australia)
3. University of Western Australia.

All the above university are group of eight University so all of them are reputable and research-intensive university.
*
i would say most malaysian go to UNSW and UWA. In my batch only have 4 malaysian including myself, since Petronas did not send any students this year, but next year there should be at least some.
Anyway Uni Adelaide not bad to study Petroleum Engineering the staffs/lecturers/professors are great and yeah a lot of free bbq and events through out the year for petroleum students here.

Hey guys, I would like to know where should I stay when I enrolled in RMIT, Melbourne. I need to know which area, so that I can straight away look for the place once I touch down. Anyone mind sharing? Thanks in advance...
*
That's quite risky to be honest, i think you should settled your accomodation before you arrive in Melbourne. If you want to search for accomodation there, then i hope you have somewhere to stay there. I know a few universities will provide accommodation for new students for a week or so.
Anyway arrived early in that place and start settling your accomodation asap. And i find this website particularly useful in knowing the location and direction to any particular destination(from your accomodation to the university). And also ask your uni by email or whatever mode of communication if you can accessed their private rental database, i find this useful as you can searched by price or suburbs and etc option and most of the rental properties are mostly occupied by students.

Can roaming other network right? I'm also under 3, usually my phone only 1 bar signal in my room, if really bad then changed to other telecom network automatically, i can still make phone call domestic and international plus sms without any surcharges. So far no complained regarding 3, good cap with extreme values.

Why on wednesday, the fees are waived even without exhibition, go to their local office which ever near by and come early to apply, make sure you have all your original certificates and let them see it and also gauge either you can make the cut for the degree you wanna enrolled in. And be early also, so that you dont have to wait long to see the counselors. All the certification and photocopy will be handled by them free of charged.

Markets rally after crisis talks

Several Asian markets opened higher after a weekend of crisis talks

Most Asian markets have reacted positively to efforts by world leaders to end the recent financial turmoil.

Shares in Australia, Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore and India were up in morning trading but the main markets in Shanghai and Taiwan lost ground.

EU leaders earlier said no big bank would be be allowed to fail, as they agreed a plan to tackle the crisis.

Japan's stock market is closed for a public holiday and US markets will also be shut for Colombus Day.

World governments had been racing to throw financial institutions a lifeline before the major markets re-opened.

At the weekend, finance ministers from the main industrial nations - the G7 - approved a five-point plan to unfreeze credit markets, and a number of countries announced individual rescue packages.

Investors worried

Australia's Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said his government would guarantee all bank deposits, however large, for the next three years.

Peston: Banks humbled
UK banks 'forced to seek £50bn'

Correspondents say that type of move raised confidence as markets opened, and Australia's central bank on Monday pumped $2bn into the banking system to facilitate improve lending between banks.

By 0500 GMT, Sydney's benchmark index had risen 5%, while both Hong Kong's Hang Seng index and South Korea's Composite Stock Price Index were up by around 3%.

But after a volatile morning's trading, Shanghai's main market was trading 2% lower, while Taiwan's benchmark index had lost more than 3%. Japan's markets were closed for a public holiday.

The BBC's Quentin Sommerville in Beijing says Asian investors remain worried that even if Europe and the US resolve their banking crises, their underlying economies are slowing down, which is bad news for Asian exports.  .......................

hey guys does that includes us(international student)? or only for australia citizen and PR? Probably will park a significant sum here during the summer holiday. Thanks.

i just wan know whether they can certify the certs or not
*
OH serious, sry then. Yes they can certify it, means you pay what you need to pay and they will do the rest on behalf of you after you sort out all your documents.

Actually combined degree satisfies the minimum requirements to graduate with both combo (e.g Civils and Maths Science)
When you grad you will get only get 1 certificate, double degree is different cause i know some of my friends have to do summer course because some do economics and engineering subjects, but they definitely satisfies more than the minimum requirements and when you grad you will get 2 certificate of degrees (e.g Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Economics).

*
Can la, i bought like 100+ burned dvds here. But planning to buy external hd now, so heavy and also taking a lot of spaces on my luggage.

Again it depends on the immigration official, just don't let them give an excuse to open your luggage and find fault in it in order to justify the search. So pack nicely and put all food in 1 bag and carry it as hand-luggage so that you don't have problem during the food-check.
dont bring ANY kiddie porn here, there are really serious in this matter, so much so now aussie feds are planning the "internet filtering" program, so fast compare to the NBN rollout.

Ok...I think I will just get a HDD which is inside a case already .

I wanna know ... What can I do if I have already used the maximum downloading quota for the month ? I can't download anymore until the next month ?
*
It depends on what plan you subscribed. Go see 1st page all the plan, there is one good website whirpool something like that that can cater to your needs. Some ISP charged excess usage by per GB usually, Telstra is a big rip-off >$150 per GB if you over download. But most major ISPs just throttled you speed to 64 kbs or 128 kbs ones you download over the limit, you should know also if you max out any of this 3 things such as upload, download or offpeak quota, then they start to throttled. If you're a light user then i suggest scouting for the best "freebies" aka free bandwidth, i just notice iinet offered high quality live EPL matches where you can watch all you want without using your "paid bandwidth".

hi ppl,
this is my 1st time applying visa, and i'm planning to apply online
from the official website, it is stated like below
how different is the official application document checklist available here ( http://www.immi.gov.au/students/checklists/visa_573_1.pdf ) from what exactly Malaysian students need to provide? Or it's the same thing?
I've just sent an email to australian high commission in KL, but no reply yet.
*
Just apply online, make sure you have your COE(Confirmation of Enrollment) from your uni/college and also a credit card for payment.
Just followed the instructions carefully and type your answers also. Is really easy, you should be done with it in 20 mins, then you have to set an appointment for medical check-up(accredited and approved by the Immigration department), they will give you a list of places where you will do your health check-up, after your done with it then you should get your student visa in 1 week time or less.

thanks december88...
how bout the list of documents required?
*
I don't recalled that to be honest when i applied, because your COE confirms your enrollment from your uni sides, since you have to submit all applicable documents to you uni 1st before you applied for you visa, hence why the COE is kinda like "all applicable documents".
Beside you can saved your application if you're not sure and continue back later, the last step is the payment step, after you've paid then you can proceed to choose where to do your medical check-up.

about the health...should i do it now or pay a visit to one of the clinic 1st?
*
? I think you need to set up an appointment with the clinic you want, so long it's in the list recommended by the immigration department, you will be fine since the clinic will forward your medical report to the immigration department.

whoa havent come in here for quite some time =/ my finals are just around the corner =/ anyway, just a quick question, are geologists badly needed in aus? hows the job prospect? =) Thanks
*
I wouldn't say badly needed, but definitely you have a future if the mining booms continues, at least Western Australia have a lot of mining projects coming in the future, of course it all depends on the current economic condition, but i think there will be a demand for geologists. Btw dont look at Aussie only other countries also offer good opportunities.

QUOTE(kamagotchi @ Dec 4 2008, 09:17 AM)
they have streams.. life science, physical science, design, arts and commerce.
basically, like me, i did design so when i finish UNSW foundation, i can study anywhere in Australia in design and built environment courses

Added on December 4, 2008, 9:18 am
and i think the starting price of graduates with a business degree is like AUD3k while engineering graduates with AUD2k. I dont know about now, with the recession and all. Its better if u have PR status, easier to get hired.
*
Engineering grad earn more than 2k, i mean if 2k then you're earning less than the minimum wage. Taking AUD 25 per hour(conservative estimate) means engineers can earn AUD3.5k per month. You can consider this yardstick, my friend currently work part time with an O&G company as a petroleum geologist who haven't graduate yet, at a rate of $35 per-hour, good for his pocket and CV for work experiences.

Anyway welcome to Adelaide next year, make sure you all have your sunglasses, hat and sunblock on, summer there in Adelaide is scorching hot and intolerable. And btw use water wisely there, South Australia have severe drought this past decade.
And quite a lot of Malaysia there in Adelaide i think around 2k+, so no problem finding friends there.
Anyway get yourself acquainted with the local news there at www.news.com.au/adelaidenow.

Where can I see the list of approved doctors for my medical check up to apply for the visa?

You can see it in the website of DIAC but after you paid, make sure you have your COE, if i'm not mistaken ones you paid the visa application via credit card, then they will redirect you for the medical appointment and also the list of medical places near by your current residence.

U r from Sarawak!
U did ur check-up at what clinic or hospital in SWK for ur Australian visa?
Which one do u recommend for me to do everything in one go?

Coz from the www.immi.gov.au website, i saw those some panel clinics and hospitals are mainly for Radiology- which i assume they only do the X-ray only?  rolleyes.gif

Yes i'm, there is quite a few Sarawakian actived in this topic. I did my medical check up here in Kuala Lumpur, been living in KL for the past 8 years. What i suggest is to click the links giving by fellow forumers here and call them up either they have everything all in one place so that you don't have to travel so far in between places. So do it all in one go and call them if they can do everything there.
