I got two offer letters to study engineering as an undergrad, one from ANU and another from The University of Melbourne.
So far from what I can gather (by personally inquiring some forum user who happen to study in these two universities), Melbourne University is a pricey option - from accommodation to living expenses; ANU on the other hand is much more affordable and distraction is kept to a minimum.
Also from all the comments I received, majority of them will agree that ANU and Melbourne University are equally good, generally. Melbourne University is well known for its engineering. In order for me to ultimately decide between these two universities, I need comments from students @ ANU who are doing engineering. I heard ANU is weaker on the engineering side, but to what extent?
If there's anything worthwhile for me to reconsider Melbourne University, I would like to hear more about it as well.

QUOTE(haya @ Sep 24 2008, 01:35 PM) How do you study in 2 universities? Commuting is going to be a nightmare. While I cannot say about the standard of Engineering in ANU and Melb, I would recommend looking at other factors such as cost of living, air accessibility (Canberra is probably the only, or one of the few capital's in the world at least, without an regular international flight), social links etc, in deciding where to go. Good Luck! I communicate with them through PM, sorry for the confusion, (by referring to their usernames at the front page of this thread, under "LIST OF MEMBERS STUDYING/STUDIED IN AUSTRALIA") Yeah I notice that getting to Canberra requires internal flights in Australia, say from Melbourne to Canberra. Which prove to be a little expensive for me to fly back to Malaysia, but I'm sure most of us Malaysians won't go back that often, would we? As for social links, should be aplenty in Melbourne; Canberra not so sure...

QUOTE(Cheesenium @ Sep 24 2008, 06:06 PM) Onyx_black,why didnt you consider to do engineering in UNSW? Engineering is one of the UNSW's strength and they offer more than 20 kinds of engineering here. It's cheaper than Melbourne while there is still places to hang out. I will look into UNSW. One more thing, I found out that ANU has Electronics Systems Major, is it similar to Melbourne University's Electrical Engineering? (I assumed they've changed it from Electrical and Electronics Engineering) I'm interested in E&E major. Edit: UNSW offers Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications, what about Electrical and Electronics? This post has been edited by Onyx_black: Sep 24 2008, 09:14 PM
