Went to Edu fair ytd, and went to consult QUT regarding my application, that ang mo took a look at my cgpa and said that i am qualify for a merit award (if the uni stil maintain the merit system award) So this merit thing is going to give me a 50% off my 1st semester fees which isl ike almost 5000 AUD WHich is great! cheers.gif

okay so the question is , Is there such thing at UQ? because of course i prefer UQ over QUT, But QUT is giving much better option and seem to recognise my diploma more..i still have yet to heard from UQ sad.gif

so you think i shoud go for QUT or UQ huh?? I am taking accounting btw, more students from TarC seem to be going there...

any QUT students here?
*
Well, UQ is seen as a more pretigious school in Queensland but if QUT provides you the scholarship, it won't be too bad to study there as it is a very good school as well.

If u score an average of around 75% as well in the final exam, you will most probably obtain TER 90 and above. Marks around 75% should give the grade of 16B.
*
If all B16, then Around TER88-90.

B16 = 76 to 80.

To get TER90++, you need two A17, 3B16. Around that.

QUOTE(Plant @ Oct 26 2008, 11:15 PM)
Hi fellow malaysian coverting to aussie style, i suppose to say Aiyee mates, cheeeeerrs but i reckon u know what i mean. =)

I have been in Australia for almost 1 year already and i didnt learn much about english, most of the time i hang out(lepak) with hong kong friend which brush up my cantonese, i think got few part i almost talk like hong kong people .. =.="

Currently i really like aussie style, better that Malaysia a hundred time, The bad part about Australia is the food, oh sweet mama pie.....i miss RM4.00 fish ball mee and all those exotic food in Malaysia but here some food just tasteless... sigh.

Overall, i already adapted Aussie style, love this place, never going back to msia next year, either going to work as fruit picking or farm job. When grad, apply for PR.

Oh btw, some of u guys are in Brisbane as well? I never meet any Malaysia living in Brisbane, not in QUT and Griffith thought.

About Brisbane, the city is boring after 9pm.. if it is not weekend or friday, highway is yours if you driving a car.
Most of the weekend while driving to wellington point, i see some aussie hot chick making out beside the road, some look like he is raping the girl but actually the girl is kissing back very passion, drunk aussie. =.=

In brisbane, it is a good place to live, i feel safe living here. Southbank cineplex? it is still 5bucks for me cause my friend got student movies saved card, they only give up those card in certain date and it is vey limited.  2 more weeks to finish semester, then i can enjoy life in Brisbane before going back to Malaysia.

Mythras, back from my days, 3 days max you will get the visa after medical checkup but now i dunno la. Haha, when u come to Australia sure suffer for the first term just to give u a head up. =)
*
Is it easy to find a part time job (waiter or food serving) in Brisbane? And how will the wages be like?

I'm asking this because i maybe studying in UQ very soon. smile.gif

QUOTE(mangoman @ Oct 28 2008, 12:55 PM)
The Australian dollar could slip below 60 US cents and test another five-and-a-half-year low by the end of this week as fears of a global recession spur a sell-off, currency strategists say.

Commonwealth Bank of Australia chief currency strategist Richard Grace said the Australian dollar could fall below Friday night's low-point of 60.55 US cents, the weakest level since April 2003.

Against the currency of Australia's biggest export market, Japan, the Australian dollar has fallen to its lowest level since the end of World War II.

Mr Grace said that with fears of a global recession in the minds of traders, the Australian dollar was likely to finish 2008 at 64 US cents, before dropping to 59 US cents by the end of March 2009.

"It's coming from a selling of the Australian dollar according to downward revisions of global growth and commodity prices," he said.

Yup, with PR u can get a better job with better pay. And u can hardly can do internship here with ur student visa unless u opt for not being paid. sweat.gif

According to that report, it seems that AUD will drop even further this week... Well, it would be a good news for me because i will studying there next year... hence even increasing my chance of going there.

But one thing, if the demand of Malaysia Ringgit falls as well, both currencies demand falling simultaneously, means we won't get as much benefits as we should.

Budget surplus? I think Malaysia has been in budget deficit for many years man.

If RBA further reduces the interest rate, i can predict that the currency will surely fall further.

QUOTE(bhypp @ Oct 28 2008, 04:25 PM)
well abit of an oxymoron isnt it? usually, drop of interest rate cause a reaction like drop in the currency value...so is the inflation stuff...they say wanna cut inflation.....drop interest rate will only lead to more consumer spending hence more inflation? sometimes i srsly dunno what Mr Swan's doing.... unsure.gif  unsure.gif  unsure.gif
well u thought wrong buddy....the reason why our msian economy's on surplus is coz the megalomaniac Tun Dr M is no longer around sapping the reserves dry with his mega projects......the country's reserves have been building steadily over the years...its not much compared to other countries but for a nation like Msia i guess its OKAY....guess again u are one of those blind govt skeptics who just think the opposite of whatever the govt says...being skeptical is one thing...being blind / ignorant skeptic...now thats a whole different story...

abit weird la to me....coz Australia has been having so much surplus yet their currency's dropping like crazy....compared to the US...deficit for dunno how long already.....and they are the source of this crazy credit crap....and their currency's still holding up....guess ppl value the USD more than the AUD....anyway i aint no economist / not studying economics n etc....i cant comment further...
*
If the inflation is a cost push inflation, there is no use trying to restrict the demand by increasing the interest rate. It's kind of weird now because the oil price has been dropping... or maybe it is due to the limited food supply.. So its caused by cost not demand.

Would be good if they reduce the interest rate further. tongue.gif tongue.gif

And of course i'm not a government skeptic that you called me.

Please look at the annual budget before making any conclusion.
The most recent budget is a budget deficit of RM207.9 billion with expected revenue of RM179 billion (dropping due to the fall in oil price). So it is a surplus right? =)

like totally man.....i just recently learnt about 'short-selling'....its like ppl selling sth that its not theirs and get profit along the way....doesnt make sense....heard thats one of the reason why the Aus stock market came down that quickly.....luckily Msia already banned short selling post 97  sweat.gif  sweat.gif ...yea economics not my kinda stuff man....very very confusing....like abstract art....which i dont get..

Added on October 28, 2008, 8:32 pmwell there's always an Alan Greenspan classic whihc is to lower interest rate.... sweat.gif.....and talking bout that...i still dont get what bepeon said.....

like even if the inflation is caused by cost not demand, wouldnt lower interest rates cause more demands regardless of the cost thats causing the inflation? if thats the cause wouldnt it be double inflation?? hmm.gif
*
The thing is now the people's confidence is so low.. you think even the interest rates drop people will dare to go loan some money and do business? No way right? Same with the consumers.. They are expecting a recession.. so why spend the money now.. keep it for the future.

Lolz. 1 minute ago Australian Dollar to Malaysia is RM2.3, then now its RM2.25. blink.gif blink.gif

Australia central bank, Reserve Bank of Australia is trying to selling their foreign currencies to buy their own currency, meaning to increase the demand of AUD. Thats why we see some rise of AUD... but apparently people still selling the AUD, especially the Japanese i guess?

ANU is a good place to study but again, it is like a dead city. You dun have anything to do at night and can just only see the traffic lights. laugh.gif Btw u have to double check again which uni is good in IT course before making your decision. wink.gif
*
But ANU is considered as the top university in Australia, above Melbourne, Sydney and other prestigious universities.

But seems like ANU is more well known for its science courses, because the requirement for commerce is pretty low (TER80 can enter) while Melbourne U require you to have at least TER90++ to enter the commerce courses.

Not sure about IT courses, but QUT is quite experienced in IT teachings.

I have many frens working in Bris. The average pay is around AUD17 per hour before tax as a waiter or waitress. smile.gif
*
Well, i don't really mind working as long as the wage level is around AUD15-AUD20. smile.gif smile.gif Enough to eat is good enough. Would be better if i can get a job like promoter selling clothes. But the english level of the citizens there will make me feel inferior. sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif

UQ is University of Queensland. Generally i think the living cost in Queensland is lower than Melbourne i guess....

Well, maybe we have to take the initiative to talk to them... I don't think all of them mind mixing with us.. As i'm going to Queensland University very soon, i too feel worried about mixing with people there.. I certainly hope can mix well with them because it would be meaningless to study there if i'm still always together with the M'sians.

Is anyone here from Queensland? Can anyone tell me about international school in Queensland cause i got a friend that would like to study her Year-12 in Australia. She will finish her SPM this year. =)

I asked IDP about it and what they can provide me is information of Foundation Year. But my friend may prefer to finish her secondary studies with a Year 12 instead.

your friend need not look for 'international' schools (there are few, maybe none in brissie), he can do year 11/12 in either private or normal schools........

for the international student, there isn't much difference between the 2......since he will need to pay full fees in both anyway, but for aussies, normal school is practically free, but private schols can be very expensive........
*
Would it be troublesome to get into normal schools or private schools for that matter?

I don't think money is that much of a problem for her.

A cut in interest rate may cause AUD to depreciate according to economics theory. I hope it does happen.

do u think it'll drop below the 2.0 mark?

You mean AUD?

Maybe due to the cut in Interest rate but their government bank is manipulating the currency by buying their own currency to prevent it from depreciating.
