haiyo. never wanna come back huh. hurt malaysians feelings loh. i know our country is not the best. but how to get better if no one wants to come back to improve it. haiya...mat salleh suprememo mentality or grass is greener mentality? i know a lot of aussies wanna move to malaysia cause they like it more here. must be grass is greener mentality.
*
ahhh each have their own opinion mar...i agree with taht statement...if all leave and not stay coz its crap there's no way we can improve it...yup...i know it wouldnt make much difference by just a single person by to a certain extend it will help right?? i think most ppl are driven by the financial side of it....the currency bigger....can buy more stuffs....but for me its not all about money....so migrating is not my thing....

QUOTE(ivango88 @ Oct 27 2008, 01:40 PM)
So which beach in melbourne are the best spot for surfing? Cause I thought of learning surfing at least an experience right...

i know only bout torquay and the area around it....but no real good ones near the city i think....torquay is where RipCurls born...and 1 of my frens stayed there whole summer, work in a fishnchips shop and surf...all summer..... sweat.gif sweat.gif

better beaches for surfing in NSW n Qld....coz the sea here sucks...the cold current from the southern sea doesnt really favour the surfers....warmer currents in NSW n Qld......im just speaking from hearsay tho......dun take 100%

Don't compare us to the chumps down in Melbourne, we have standards. My friend went down there and a cabbie refused to take him where he wanted to go, and he just told the cabbie "i'm a cab driver in queensland, and we never do this kind of shit, you're a disgrace to the profession". Technically by Law we can deny a ride if it causes "Annoyance", but this is a broad definition, but we aren't picky over here, even if you want to haul your ass to the next street nearby, we'll do it. But we do make up for it in temprament, if you saying something insulting or shitty, we'll respectfully ask you to get out of the cab in the middle of a dark highway or we'll send out an A12.

today's paper says that the rba will that action to reduce the stop or at least reduce the drop in exchange rate... but still i think they'll drop the interest rate next month
*
well abit of an oxymoron isnt it? usually, drop of interest rate cause a reaction like drop in the currency value...so is the inflation stuff...they say wanna cut inflation.....drop interest rate will only lead to more consumer spending hence more inflation? sometimes i srsly dunno what Mr Swan's doing.... unsure.gif unsure.gif unsure.gif

QUOTE(Bepeon @ Oct 28 2008, 03:12 PM)
Budget surplus? I think Malaysia has been in budget deficit for many years man.

If RBA further reduces the interest rate, i can predict that the currency will surely fall further.
*
well u thought wrong buddy....the reason why our msian economy's on surplus is coz the megalomaniac Tun Dr M is no longer around sapping the reserves dry with his mega projects......the country's reserves have been building steadily over the years...its not much compared to other countries but for a nation like Msia i guess its OKAY....guess again u are one of those blind govt skeptics who just think the opposite of whatever the govt says...being skeptical is one thing...being blind / ignorant skeptic...now thats a whole different story...

abit weird la to me....coz Australia has been having so much surplus yet their currency's dropping like crazy....compared to the US...deficit for dunno how long already.....and they are the source of this crazy credit crap....and their currency's still holding up....guess ppl value the USD more than the AUD....anyway i aint no economist / not studying economics n etc....i cant comment further...

whoops my bad....getting the trade / budget mixed up....but just wanna ask...how can we go on with budget deficit so many years and still have the $$$ where do they come from?? hmm.gif

**well the local students here not 100% purely on merit....there's this thing called full-fee paying students...their entry score are lower than the usual HECS students....i think its just like the international students' requirements....and same amount of fees too.....i found out that 1 of my colleague is full fee paying...i was shocked! shocking.gif shocking.gif and still ponteng classes quite alot.....haih pity the parents paying so much for her fees....

If the inflation is a cost push inflation, there is no use trying to restrict the demand by increasing the interest rate. It's kind of weird now because the oil price has been dropping... or maybe it is due to the limited food supply.. So its caused by cost not demand.

Would be good if they reduce the interest rate further.  tongue.gif  tongue.gif

And of course i'm not a government skeptic that you called me.

Please look at the annual budget before making any conclusion.
The most recent budget is a budget deficit of RM207.9 billion with expected revenue of RM179 billion (dropping due to the fall in oil price). So it is a surplus right? =)
*
yea sorry for getting it mixed up....coz i thought u were refering to that trade surplus thing....being skeptical is nth but coming into conclusion that all that the govt's statement's rubbish...thats wrong...well i thought u were that kind.....so apologies..... notworthy.gif

naturally when its about foreign exchange...trade surplus/ deficit comes into my mind.....and yea we r pretty safe in that sense.....so i hope MYR can hold its ground while the AUD drops....good for me / us rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

sorry im abit slow here.....its kinda easy to say borrow but wouldnt borrowing cause more deficits? coz borrow gotta return with interest right?? like one earns rm500, uses rm1k....borrow rm500 to cover the spending then one day need to return say rm600 (+ interest) so net deficit would be even more right?? unsure.gif

why do you think the world is so worried the us will go into a recession?.....when you are such a huge debtor, the people who lends you the money will lend you more money so you don't fail........

there isn't much logic in the world of high finance and derivatives......

p/s i should add, while yes, the us owes tons of money, they don't have to pay them back.........yet.....and no lender is going to ask for their money back.....yet..........
*
like totally man.....i just recently learnt about 'short-selling'....its like ppl selling sth that its not theirs and get profit along the way....doesnt make sense....heard thats one of the reason why the Aus stock market came down that quickly.....luckily Msia already banned short selling post 97 sweat.gif sweat.gif ...yea economics not my kinda stuff man....very very confusing....like abstract art....which i dont get..

like even if the inflation is caused by cost not demand, wouldnt lower interest rates cause more demands regardless of the cost thats causing the inflation? if thats the cause wouldnt it be double inflation?? hmm.gif

The thing is now the people's confidence is so low.. you think even the interest rates drop people will dare to go loan some money and do business? No way right? Same with the consumers.. They are expecting a recession.. so why spend the money now.. keep it for the future.

Lolz. 1 minute ago Australian Dollar to Malaysia is RM2.3, then now its RM2.25.   blink.gif  blink.gif

Australia central bank, Reserve Bank of Australia is trying to selling their foreign currencies to buy their own currency, meaning to increase the demand of AUD. Thats why we see some rise of AUD... but apparently people still selling the AUD, especially the Japanese i guess?
*
ah but wouldnt that means that ppl will start swiping the plastic more? since interest rates down....and low interest rate means less reason to save more reason to spend... = inflation? icon_question.gif anywya i think this economic stuff is alot of crap...like tehy can only predict what would happen....not like for sure 1 thing will happen coz things could go both ways....??? hmm.gif hmm.gif

Can anyone help me to calculate how much i basically need to pay for a year in UNSW?

https://my.unsw.edu.au/student/fees/TuitionFees.html

I got offered but it seems quite expensive. $535 X 24 uoc = 12840

2 sem a year  $12840 X 2 = $25680
convert into ringgit it would be around $25680 X 2.25 = RM57780

Is my calculation correct?

that's very expensive. I don't think i could afford it. Do we get any discount for being a malaysia citizen (commonwealth country)?

Added on October 29, 2008, 2:02 pmbtw, im interested in engineering course.

if u buy stuff using Aus credit card, the transaction fee's less than the transaction fee when u use ur Aus debit/bank card to do atm withdrawals.....so in short....better to use credit card to buy stuffs than withdrawing from ur aus account from a msian atm....

or u can just loan / mintak from ur parents....tho im too old for that i think...

sorry bro. will do. i met few police in aussie. they are nice guys...4am everyday they go to my coffee hangout before. heheh. hope they can find the real criminal in that case.
*
u used to work as a barista?? yea i think the coffee here is quite special since u need skill to make it....and u need the machine too!

anyway i think what pandamans trying to say is that its not all good and nice over here....there are alot of bad things bout Australia too...just that too many ppl from Msia has got the perception that its all 100% good here aka no corruption, no violence, no robbery / assault, no racism, no wasting of taxpayer money..... etc etc etc......

i think both countries has all of those....and its just up to the person itself to see which is the better of the bads....and i think by no means pandamans trying to attack australia but its jsut that he's trying to correct the typical msian perception of aus.....which i agree with him.....

and haya.....u said msian legalize rempits.....okay what about the aus govt giving monetary support aka doles to the lazy homeless, drunkards, druggies??? isn't that legalization and even promoting these bad stuffs?? and i think most of the assaults / robbery / house break-ins are caused by these group of ppl......

yea working over here in aus is not all good.....of course u will earn more if u convert and at the end of the day u will have more in terms of RM.....but due to the high living expenses here....its kinda hard actually....

say ur starting pay is A$50k per year....minus tax u will got sth like A$35k? thats like almost A$3k per month...minus all those expenses i dun think u will hav enuff to spare ie for ur bro / family.....its just enuff for your own spending.....

well we have a good healthy discussion about how much is enuff for everyone and i guess its very subjective...like how much is one's accomodation, how rajin one cooks / how often one eat out.....if u got a car to maintain / loan ......but then again dunno how many of u will get a A$50k job? im not sure but i think A$50k is the average?

however things arent too good in msia too...like starting pay are not as good over here.....some internships they offer u less than rm1k when u fresh grad.....thats barely enuff for petrol itself!!! vmad.gif but in msia....we got our family and we can still parasite them abit...unlike here...if we dun hav relatives....we will hav to get all the bases covered....nod.gif

that is just being ignorant. only in msia and sg that we speak like that, sometimes i feel ashamed at myself when i can't come out with a correct sentence without the slangs.

it'll be alright. the aussies are very friendly people, they are more than willing to speak to you.

well well...in my case i cat wait till the day i can pwn everyone with manglish....like right now im forced to speak english like the tv english so to say....coz the locals cant understand me and i even got told of by my tutor to speak local english....my tutor goes...."oh i know its abit hard but u gotta learn to speak like the locals, its okay for me coz ive been to SEA so many times im accustomed to it but most ppl just cant understand u!"....then got shit marks from that tutor...

fcuk that man....i felt like im betrying my roots / trying to be sumone im not....when im with my msian / sg frens....i will automatically switch to manglish....much more casual...but there are awkward times though....like when im with a local and a msian/sgporean....if i speak manglish...ang moh cant understand...if i speak tv-english....then the msian/sgpore fren wuill think ui trying to hard like that.....like some ppl i know whu studied in Aus.....when go back to msia speak got slang slang...damn sien....spineless pricks!!! when lar they gonna get a self identity for once?

Of course there is nothing wrong with slangs, as long as you're in your own country!

have you even try giving a presentation in aus with your malaysian slangs? or have you try speaking in slangs with the aussies? if you've even tried avoiding saying them, then you have agreed that there is in fact SOMETHING wrong with the slangs.

slangs only work in your own country, between your own people. you think some aussie slangs are funny and you try not to follow them, it's exactly the same with ours.

by reducing the lahs and lohs we use everyday, it's not only better for the people you speak to in aus, but also for personal improvement.
*
well true true....coz ur a student and ur not in a position of power yet...so u have to learn others' ways....but say if ur a lecturer, the best in ur field, when the uni cant even afford to lose u....then u got the upper hand...now they have to bend ur way....and learn manglish for once.....

well i dunno why like ppl speaking manglish like kena look down like that......same goes to indian-english....sure get that "thank you come again" shit...but when those german ppl speak their english-slang (that sinking=thinking stuff) ppl just dont mind....a tad of racism?? hmm.gif hmm.gif

LOL Mang/Singlish... it's only fun when you speak like that to people who speak the same, i.e. fellow Malaysians and Sporeans. Try speaking that to angmoh and see their reactions. laugh.gif

I've become a chameleon now and I believe I'm not the only one... When speaking to fellow Malaysians the -lahs/-lehs and the rojaks all come out... but when speak with angmoh automatically will follow their accent. I don't claim to speak in an Aussie accent, but I don't think I sound Manglish either haha. It's all about habit I guess, cause I have no choice but to speak that way with the people I encounter in hospitals now and most of the other friends whom I speak Manglish/Chinese with are at other hospitals.

About the "racial" segregation, I guess that does occur inevitably. 物以类聚,人以群分mah... Just don't end up becoming katak bawah tempurung and know nothing about their culture can adi... Like if you're in Melbourne, at least learn some footy teams' names so that when people shout "GO CATS !!" you know wtf they are shouting about.

ahhh why chinese character....gua tarak paham.... sad.gif ....anyway from my prev post u shud know im sth like u oso...tongue.gif thats why i cant wait till when im a tutor.....wanna pwn those locals with my manglish....too bad....i dun speak proper english....dont understand? SUCK IT UP! coz sumtimes i think the aussies are quite full of themselves.....

ahhh i think there should be quite a demand....lotsa diabetics here......and still on the rise despite all the health promotion stuffs...and i think the aussies take their sport quite seriously too and since medical care is all covered....any sport related injuries will be channeled through....

but im not sure bout salaries though.....but working hours shouldnt be too bad....like the usual 8-5?? its under the "allied health" department....like the physio's, occupational therapist & etc......

you already a trained podiatrist or are you planning to get trained here?

LOL Demons... I remember the only match which I watched on TV while switching in between the Olympics opening ceremony... Cats tapao demons kao kao... Meh, footy ain't my thing.... but at least it's better than rugby or even the boring cricket...

I don't think the Aussies are full of themselves or arrogant, but they are definitely people who are very proud of their culture and their country. No harm though, this kind of patriotism is actually worth learning - we need people to be more proud of our own M'sia, even though it's kinda shitty back home thanks to the non-stop political bickering.
*
ahhh zl oso a med student?? welcome to hell dude.....yea next eyar will be quite shitty for me...whole year will only get 2 weeks of winter break on top of those public holidays.....sienz....dun feel like im a uni student at all sad.gif

well if im not mistaken, NSW , Qld ppl call their rugby league football as well?? call footy 'aussie rules'? not too sure but i think i read sth bout that tho....yea picked the wrong team...i heard they say demons gonna hav good youngsters coming thru....but never happen leh!!!

and bout patriotism bit yes they are proud...and at times bordering arrogance tho....like sometimes they just tend to look down on the others...and some of their opinions just kinda show that they are a pretty ignorant bunch....im just talking bout my coursemates here tho....cant apply for the general aussies.....
