QUOTE(daijoubu @ Nov 2 2008, 01:25 AM) Guys, a LA37S81B for RM2500, is that a good price? Comes with 1 year warranty from Samsung. I got a LA37R81B for 3.3k last June and quite happy with it. Its an AM01 panel and has excellent black level. Astro not so good on it but great with HD media streaming and gaming on ps3. You might want to research the 37" S8 series first or at least view the tv first before purchasing. I did both. I think RM2.5k for a 37" lcd is a bit too cheap even for an older model. QUOTE(daijoubu @ Nov 3 2008, 12:17 PM) Thats why i went for it cause its pretty cheap. I checked online and found that its not that widely available. Its a year old model, and its specs are : But i checked the online price and found out that 37" are still pretty expensive, and for RM2k its a steal seeing that it has 1 year warranty. So.. i ordered it already . Hope i wont be disappointed >.< Don't forget to check the panel time in case they try to pass a display model to you.

[quote=how can we check the panel time? [/quote] Different brand, different methods. Google is your friend For Samsung LCD :- To enter the Service Menu, key in the following button combination in sequential order, not holding them down, tap one, then a very short pause, then the next, while the TV is in standby: INFO + MENU + MUTE + POWER Entering the service menu will reset your tv display settings to default. DO NOT mess around in there unless you know what you are doing as you can seriously f up your tv. Just check and exit. This post has been edited by todak: Nov 4 2008, 12:06 PM

Sony S Series lcd tv is the "pariah" of their range and targetted at consumers who wants a "premium" brand name. I used to be one of those consumers.
You're better off buying other quality brands where for the same amount of money, you will get more out of your tv.

QUOTE(phat_newbie @ Jan 4 2009, 03:27 PM) Alright guys, BHB exchanged my PV80 to a brand new unit today. Upon powering up, I checked the Service Menu and display time was 0000:00 and manufactured dated is Dec 2008. I demonstrated to the tech who installed my PV80 for me the service menu and the guy was impressed. He now knows that there are methods of checking the display time on the PV80. All in all, my purchase with BHB not bad la. At least in the end I got a brand new unit. I heard that the manufacturer's engineer can reset the display time on their tv. If the engineer can do it, whos to say that the the retails chains can't do it either.

I think the retailers routinely pass of display models as new and how many buyers know how to check the panel time? 5% or less probably.
