This one I have to admit i am still not very certain. I have a PV80H which is only HD 720P panel not Full HD 1080P but it can receive 1080P input into the set. In fact if the input is 1080P the picture is better. So i beleive the Panny down scales the 1080P to 720P. Correct me if i am wrong.  hmm.gif

Did not plan out for a Full HD as i am not planning to go with Blu-Ray yet...only when prices are down to earth including the media.

There should be a display/info button where you can see the resolution.

1080p feeds will be downscaled to 720p or interlaced as 1080i for non full HD displays.

If the DVDP already upscale to 1080p, then the TV rescale to fit the screen, that means rescaling still happens twice. First at the DVDP then the TV.

Why bother to have an upscaling DVDP in the first place? tongue.gif

Time to move to BD, 1080p source all the way. biggrin.gif

Whatever the resolution the source is, 1080p, 720p, when they converted to DVD format, they will be downgraded to 480p.

Unless they copy it directly as 1080p DiVX/WMV file (but I doubt any DVD player can read DiVX HD/WMV HD file, or MKV for that matter).

I tried before converting my 720p movie file to DVD format. The picture is far better than normal dvd purchase from store. I think it will make a difference.

Yeah, it will probably look better for the vivid colors, cleaned image done during the transfer process from film to digital by the studio. But the details will definitely be lost because it will still be 480p.

could u or somebody please elaborate on that..
i dun really understand. i'm sure that Full HD give higher quality picture compare to HD ready. ..so viewing distance is another factor to consider when buying LCD whether it 1080p or 720p? sorry noob question.

Full HD will mean more details from 1080p sources.

You put two 60" TVs side by side, one full HD one not. The source is a blu-ray movie.

Stand 5 feet from it, you'll notice the full HD TV give more details, you can see smaller objects, hair, etc than the other TV. Let's say for example, you can read the brand name on a 5" pen.

Step away to 10 feet, you'll see on the full HD TV that the same details are now becoming less visible, although still better than the other TV.

Now step away to 15 feet, you'll see that the details on the full HD TV are now invisible. In fact, both TVs are now showing the same details. Remember, the TVs are of the same size, so a 5" long pen on the screen will appear the same size, only the brand name is no longer visible.

Or, do you wanna see the chart? brows.gif tongue.gif

My friend bought the new Samsung 40" Series 7 (with 2+1 warranty and 1 year all risk insurance) together with the Sony HT-SF2300 for RM7500 (credit card installments). Is it a good deal?

For 7 Series, it is quite a good deal, as deducted HT-SF2300 for RM2000, he bought this set for RM6500
For now it's a good deal, but still getting a LCD for a ratio of 1:RM100 is a worth ratio value (from the heard actually lah wink.gif)

because anyhow we know that tech is going to be more improved over the time and the price ratio is getting lower each quarter..
50 inch for some of the LCD/Plasma is coming down to that ratio as well...so the justification base on that is on par with the price sliding strategy to ensure that we get best out of what we are paying for

but of course lah..it's only poor person like me who justify based on this ratio, for well above person, RM6500 for a TV is like buying vegetable from pasar..wink.gif

Bro, RM7500 - RM2000 = RM5500 la. laugh.gif tongue.gif

Bro, if you impressed by the 6 Series, you should be awed by the 7 Series. We did a side by side comparison with Sony W Series, really put a big shame to the Sony. My friend bought it for RM5.5k but it's out of stock, have to wait for 2 weeks.

I've always preferred plasma, but the new LED backlight LCDs really give a strong fight to the plasmas. CNET is saying this technology almost reaches the Kuro's black level, and sometimes wins over in certain scenes. This LED will be turned off automatically in black areas and gives almost perfect deep black. The only issue is the number of LEDs may not be enough to turn off at the smallest pixel area, giving "blooming" effects when a bright object appears within a black background.

But now, there are only 2 LED backlight LCD TVs that I know of, a Sony which costs RM27k and another brand at really attractive price, but it's a Samsung which I'm not really favor off. They ranks at number 1 and 2 respectively for LCD TVs at CNET.

Is the Panasonic TH-PY800H really discontinued? The US version of this model is at second place in CNET ranking for plasma TVs and received the Editor's Choice tag. The newer TH-PZ850H (PY locally) is at lower rank because of inaccurate color reproduction. But both of them have flicker issue for 24p playback though.

I didn't say the Panasonics aren't good. In fact PY800 is my choice because I just can't afford the Kuro models of the same specs. PZ800 (or PY here, but without the THX) received an Editor's Choice tag, and is at number 2 in the list, second only to the Pioneer Elite Kuro PRO-111FD. The PZ850, however, got some color issues even though still better than many other brands.

CNET's Ranking:

Plasma TVs
LCD TVs

And of course, reviews and ranks are just guides. They've used specific testing tools (HQV) as well as real source (blu-ray, etc) for the reviews and presented the results, so it's quite useful. But I've also seen the TVs in action, I love the Panasonic plasmas so much, but the Samsung LED backlight LCD is not bad too.

But I keep hearing that the PY800 series will be discontinued, they'll only focus on PY850 now.

The Pioneer's plasma panel factory has been shutdown. The 9th gen Pioneers will be using the plasma panels from the Panasonic factory. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
