Guys
Need your advice. Planning on getting a new LCD TV or Plasma. Budget is around RM5k to Rm6k. Sum up to these two models.

1)SHARP 46" LCD LC-4665M Rm6k++

OR

2) Panasonic TH-50PV80 Plasma TV RM5K++

I know you guys have been debating a lot on either LCD or Plasma. But I would appreciate some reviews and comparision between the two on its pros and cons.
Im more towards watching astro, maybe later going for Blueray or Playstation 3.
Would really appreciate your views guys.........

Honestly, u are once like me (w/out the extra budget). Watching Astro most of the time. My old CRT in alway on from 8 or 9 am till I got back from work, which is around 6pm. Then, when everyone is at home, u can bet it's ON till past midnite. May be if i have extra hours to spare, i watched DVD-video every alternate nite. So astro is still a factor to consider when choosing between PLASMA or LCD - if its intended to be ur MAIN display at home. Otherwise, it is all come down to "which TOYS u wanna buy"

I have a 42PV80 - only recently. So far really satisfied with the PQ (conn via ci-put s-video cable). Planning to buy a THX-certified S-Videop Monster cable from one of the forumer. Its PQ is much better when view at home, compared to what u see at retails shop. You have to remember at shop, they set diff setting for the displayed and the signal is relayed via several. best to bring ur own source (DVD/Blue Ray) and ask for demo. Try to set both sets at a level playing field - standard picture mode, NR reduced,etc..

Just watched rm8 DVD - Mummy 3 and Stealth, at 4meter distance. Very happy with the PQ  shocking.gif , and my dvd doesnt have any upconversion (the pic is totally upconverted via the Plasma) surficed to say I'm amazed - still blue ray with full hd plasma is the BEST.

The only things I missed about my PV80 is that, NONE of the connector ports is gold-plated..
dunno Py800/Py850 is like that...

so, IMHO, go for plasma - you wont regret it.. thumbup.gif

The PV80 is still not full hd rite? Correct me if I'm wrong. Like most ppl say, whats the point of having a really HD TV when what u watch at home most of the time is ASTRO, pirate VCDs or DVDs ? Unless you are playing Blueray DVDs or PS3 most of the time, u wont be able to utilize the full functions of a FULL HDTV. Anyway, have u seen the 50PV80? Is it as good as the 42PV80? Doesnt it come with the s-video cable and hdmi cables?

Yes. If you don't want to see blur, go buy Plasma. I recommened 50" PV80. RM5.6k and
above only. Very cheap drool.gif

I definitely agree.. its the most value buy rite now on the market. Even the 42' PV80 is a very good buy at Rm3.3k. That is if u prefer plasma tvs. The only thing that PV80 is that it is hd ready only.
I noticed a lot of our bros' here mostly are plasma supporters.

korean sammy and LG ok la..

Hi end or not...I prefer to stay away from Koreans. My friend has one and he's tired of sending his sammy back to the manufacturers already. If u can afford it why not just go for Japannese brands.
How much is the 37' PV80 now anyway?

One thing about Sharp is that I find the DEFAULT setting is already quite pleasing. I'm using the LC42A65M. Same goes with okhui26. Mebbe ask him what his setting is.
*
Thanks bro.. I only feel that the display with Astro is not up to my expectations (which is what I watch most of the time). Thats why wanna ask if u guys set it to something different. How's your set if u r watching astro?
Are there any settings or adjustments I can make to make it look better. I hope the installer installed everything the right way.

Welcome to the Sharp Club,  rclxms.gif

Actually the LC42A65M came with the OPC feature, it is a feature that automatically adjust the contrast based on your room environment's lighting.

Currently i am still waiting someone to send me a LCD calibration CD so that can play around the setting.  tongue.gif
*
If it comes with the OPC feature...cant we just adjust the settings of the OPC? Wy do we need a LCD calibration cd to adjust the settings? Maybe when you have the cd you can provide me with a copy.... sweat.gif

QUOTE(Exarkun @ Jan 15 2009, 06:44 PM)
Yeah the OPC feature is great. I'm using it too for most of the time. Only when I want full brightness do I switch off OPC.
*
Can u guys teach me how to use the OPC feature ....starting to play around with the settings already

Hey...should we have a Sharp LCD club thread so we can discuss settings and other stuff relating to Sharp LCDs?

Added on January 15, 2009, 10:54 pmMy dad's SONY Bravia 40' full hd lcd displays ASTRO quite well because he installed a scaler to boost the astro images....thats why Im considering if I were to install a scaler too...

Thats the beauty of OPC, you dont have to adjust much. OPC controls the backlight brightness of your Sharp LCD. In a bright room, the OPC will be set to full brightness, if you reduce the lighting of the room, the backlight brightness reduces as well, automatically.

This is to ensure nice brightness for the LCD and also to reduce strain on the eyes. Many people set full brightness and watch in total darkness. What they don't know is that, that can cause eyes strain which can lead to bad eyesight, migrain and many more symptoms.

What you can adjust with OPC on is the contrast, colour, and sharpness. All that depends on individual preference.

Thanks bro,
Really didnt know that. What does OPC stand for anyway?
