Hi Farha, thanks for replying, not many willing to share about SEO stuff here because they don't want the competition to know the secrets ! haha

I don't mind sharing some SEO stuff...here's something I wrote regarding Google's latest update:

Right now, as this is posted, Google is rolling out the May 2022 Core Update. This affects…virtually anyone with a website. The last major update was in November 2021, and you should be seeing the full effects of the update In the next few weeks, according to Google.

I seldom see Google do this, but this time around they’ve linked to several prominent bloggers that wrote about SEO on their official site - with a disclaimer, so it’s pretty obvious Google wants to be as helpful as possible without outright confirming or denying anything.

In this post, I will attempt to simplify the questions that Google officially poses to site owners, based on my knowledge of what’s technically possible, as well as existing search ranking factors. The overall takeaway here is “Quality Content” will rank better, so you’ll need to step up your content game. If you don’t already know which individual Facebook groups have the best local writers, graphic designers, bloggers & UI/UX experts, drop me a message - support local okay!

- Simply using AI writer tools are unlikely to fool Google, their AI is so advanced that if you search for “that hipster song with the whistling”, you will get the popular one by the right indie band. As Google says: “Does the content provide original information, reporting, research or analysis?”

- Consider that your own site may not always be the best spot for good content: my most read piece, at 150,000 views, involved a lot of research, graphic work and references. It’s for the term “how to spot fake likes”, ranked #2 and it’s hosted on Smore.com, a free flyer hosting site.

- It appears that financial and health related content have special consideration in the new algorithm, based on the question “Would you feel comfortable trusting this content for issues relating to your money or your life?”.

- As Abraham Lincoln famously said: “The problem with quotes on the internet is that they are often not true”. So, it’s pretty obvious and possible for Google to rank trusted authors/sites higher than new/dubious ones. Based on “Is this content written by an expert or enthusiast who demonstrably knows the topic well?”, my guess is that they use the Knowledge Graph as well as their own records of webmasters submitting websites to Google. So, passing off someone’s quote as your own is more likely to hurt your site.

- Clickbait, poorly styled and copy-paste articles definitely will take a hit, as Google says one of the questions to consider is “Would you expect to see this content in or referenced by a printed magazine, encyclopedia or book?”

- It doesn’t mean that commentary, when written and researched will be devalued, based on “avoid simply copying or rewriting those sources and instead provide substantial additional value and originality”. I’ve definitely seen some opinion pieces rank higher than the news that sparked them.

- Lastly, in case you find all this intimidating, there is one quick thing you can do that will definitely push your site up in the ranks: change your webhost. Paying a few thousand for your website and SEO that you expect to make hundreds of thousands for you…with a basic hosting package that costs RM300 annually is like filling up your Ferrari with RON95. Page Speed has been a direct ranking factor in Google since 2010.
I hope you’ve found this useful. I’ve actually compiled some detailed notes and links on the topic as I’m putting together a course on SEO. If you’ll like my notes, just drop me a message. 🙂 Good luck surviving this latest Google update!
