CHECKING PR if you're using Firefox browser, you can use the extension called SearchStatus. or if you prefer the tedious way of using website, can try http://checkpagerank.ws/ http://www.livepr.info/ <-- i like this one http://www.prcheckingtool.com/ <-- love this one. checks many google datacenter! PR is indeed complex. Try same keyword on MSN, Yahoo and Google, they will return different result.
Yahoo and MSN wont return me my blog when I put in some common keyword "Ubuntu 8.10 Coming Soon" http://www.google.com.my/search?hl=en&q=Ub....10+Coming+Soon But Google miraculously return the relevant result even tho I posted that entry 6 hours ago... Pagerank is simply a general indicator of how many links and the quality of those links.
No it doesn't mean you'll rank higher than ALL keywords. It does take into account a lot of things like keyword density, anchor text of the incoming link etc, and while it does not judge the quality of your content, GOogle will try to interprete what your page is about to determine relevancy, and through a complex algorithm, come up with the search result. So while it is not all encompassing across keywords - it is a very good general indicator on where your page will end up in a search result -all things being equal |

This Google PR is such a mystery, my index page is PR0, but alot of my other pages are PR1 - PR2. And most of my visitors are at least 90% from search engines.

I think sometimes we are too obsessed about page rank untill the extent we forget the main objective of having blog - good content.
Most of the ways of improving page rank does not directly contribute in having content. Finally, although we rank 1st in the search engine result, the visitor will only come and go when there is nothing in our blog. For me, we should balance up between good content and good page rank. I got success to increase my page rank 3 in few months ..but people say that it is far easy to get page rank in blog using blogspot .I dont know how i got page rank 3 .As i exchanged link with different friends with pr 0 1 or 2 submitted my posts in social bookmarking sites .I think that may be the reason which improved my page rank .
Eying for page rank 4 but how i dont know |

A tip from me, submit to multiple directories, at least 100-500 of it. Get backlinks from high PR website. If you're using Wordpress, then keep on trackback-ing others.
By the time, I got my blog to PR3 in 3 months. PR4 the next month. But unfortunately, it drops due selling links. Now mine maintained to PR3 only. |

Perhaps it's earlier than that. Recently Google updates PR very often like 1-2months only. The previous updated was December, so I think they will update again shortly.

I work in Internet Marketing and I would like to say please do not get hung up on your PageRank (PR). PR is only one of the many ways that Google ranks you in the search engines. Other search engines like Yahoo and MSN Live Search also use backlinks (links from other websites back to yours) as part of their search engine algorithm which is used to rank you.
Yes, it is true that your PR is calculated by the number of back links you have on your website. However, not all backlinks are created equal. For example, if your website is about cars, a backlink from another car website is considered of higher value than a website on handbags. There are several reasons why PR drops, such as the ads are paid or sponsored links eg Text Link Ads (not to be confused with Google AdSense, Nuffnang, etc), or being affected by the "Google Slap". The reason why Google is moving more towards other search engine algorithms such as TrustRank is because people abused the system by spamming. TrustRank is all about separating the good websites from spam websites. |

I agree with lifeplayer, traffic has no relation with PR. PR started being seen as not so important (as told by Matt Cutts, the Google Quality Control guy) about 2 years ago which is why some of you may have seen a decrease.
Once again, I want to put emphasis that your Google PR is not the only method of calculating your ranking on the search engines. Right now, I would say Google PR is a really a minor issue. Things like TrustRank (which I think I mentioned before in this thread) are increasingly important. Concentrate on having better quality content instead of how many links are going back to you. Think about it - if people like your website, they are more likely to link back to you than if your website is awful. |

well if they add you to their blog roll they are backlinking to you... of course your site has to have traffic - they won't select a random blog like www.xyzksdfjad.blog.com to their blog roll... you would only link back to a blog that you enjoy reading that has quality content
i believe what lifeplayer is talking about is that PR is not increased only by the amount of traffic you have. if all links remain the same 1 year from now, the only increase in PR you may get is if the websites linking back to you also increase in their PR |

PR sucks monkeynuts. No point in putting too much effort in this, unless you want to sell your site (e.g. sedo?). High PR for some reason results into a higher price for a domein/site...for the rest it's major bullocks...not worth the efforts..
Remember, most of the times your main audience does not know what PR is, and do not have google thingy installed to see the rank of a website.... |

Sorry, :| Yes, traffic got less to do with PR, its more about SERPS. PR is calculated based on the backlinks and the quality of it. Too much BL might get G's on alert that they might think of the site as link farming. |

Anyway..bad news for my blog this time..dropped to PR2..but search engine ranking improve..lol... after I've stopped optimize the keyword for make money blogging and make money blog..my blog rank dropped to 2nd, 3rd page or so..then yesterday pop up to First page again..lol.. Perhaps he have PR2 or PR3 before? and get penalized to PR0 after selling links?
I got PR2 before I served TLA, but after 2months my PR dropped to PR0. After I've taken down TLA, and do the following steps that shown in my post, I get back PR3. |

Google PR is just means how important the page in the eye of google spider. It is complicated. But PR doesn't guarantee the traffic. High PR can be low traffic also.
I think other than you have to know how to do on page seo for the page you want to optimize for your keyword and the title of your page, you also need to do some good quality links inbound and outbound to the page. After that, if you always have fresh content out, you can increase your Google PR faster. But google will not give PR to you so fast. Another factor is site age. In my experience, normally about 3-6months you can go to PR 1. Unless you really very hardworking focus building link and adding lots of content, you may be can get PR 1 in less than 1month but it is very rarely. Anyway, i have experience that with more contents and some links, it even go to PR 2 in just 6 months time. But PR doesn't guarantee you will be first page of the keyword you optimize. That will be different story. PR will help little. To dominate first page of google is different. =).. long story.. haha..just sharing here. Yeah, one good tool bar for page analysis is search "SEO quake" in google and install for your firefox browser. But my Auto Blog always got some proposals via email from companies like giving free gift like keychain on their car related souvenirs, advertisement (but tak jadi) & today just received an email to request for "guest post" and they will pay me for "formatting & time".
Looks like I should focus my Auto blog more coz looks like got "potential" and bright future BTW, anybody here has experience in "guest post"? How to charge them? Any idea or recommendation? I just replied them & asked for details and proposal for payment. What should I take note give I offer "Guest Post"? Thanks. |

i not yet tell them how much. I just answered them I accept their guest post request and asked their proposal for payment and also allowed post which dun violate any law & not attacking individual and company only.
so, if they dun tell me a price & ask me how much i want, i will say $25/post. actually it's good to have guest post coz i oso no need to write so much, ppl write for me & pay me some more sometimes i think back i shouldn't charge them, i shld pay them |

Just install google toolbar and you will be able to see the PR of the sites you visit. Another good resource is seobook.com
Driving unique visitors (unique IPs) to your site is equally important because this will increase your Alexa ranking. Alexa ranking is as important as PR. Article marketing can also get your PR up. |

high pagerank in the past is to sell ads and links, now high pagerank sell stuff also Google penalize. so end up put there look nice only. the general public couldn't care about your pagerank or alexa rank or technorati rank or whatever - they just want your content. pagerank does have a role in Google's SERP but it's just 1 out of the soooooooo many other more important factors. |

just feel that blog with high PR looks cool although it dun really bring in much traffic, at least can "show off".
But I think Alexa is based on the traffic, the more traffic you have, the better Alexa ranking u will have, which is more practical. |

Dude, Alexa can only track site visitors who have the Alexa toolbar installed - how many of us installed that? So it's quite a useless number, except when used to compare the popularity of 2 different websites, i.e. as a relative measurement.
PR used to be important but there's less emphasis nowadays. The PR that you see in the toolbar is not updated - Google has the updated PR internally and use a different scale in ranking websites. You should also look at the relevance of your webpage to the targeted keywords and also geographical location - make use of Google's Webmaster Tool. Other than that, like someone mentioned above, PR and Alexa is mostly for "shiok sendiri". ya, I have 3 domain names using blogspot to redirect, I bought for $10 via Blogger coz no need setting DNS etc, all auto setup, that's why I blur to start with own domain. Anyway, will learn about it coz I want to be "serious" in blogging

There are many methods:
1. Type link:http://yourblogname.com in the search box, it will show the results of sites that backlink u, but I found the results are not complete. 2. Use Google Webmaster Tool to check, this one is better. 3. Use Alexa.com to check. and many other methods, u can search from Google to get the tips. Adsense has nothing to do with your PageRank. The PageRank is a value of ranking where it shows the importance of your site in the eyes of Google. Most higher PR sites ranks higher position in search engine although it is not the main factor to determine that.

PR for me is for "syok sendiri" if you are running ads, then traffic is more important, but how much you will earn if you have 1000UV per day? maybe about USD1000. Google's Page Rank algorithm is really hard to understand but I agree that with constant updates with high quality content (especially now after Google's recent 'Farmers' update) and related keywords would really help your PR to rise quite well.
Link exchanges should still work pretty well as well, as Google still considers these quite highly when determining a site's page rank. But things may have changed with the recent update. Anybody have any idea on this? |

agree with lifeplayer..advertiser surely will choose a website with high visitor than a website with a high PR but they don't have too much visitor..except you want to strengthen your website backlinks, then you should look for a high PR website..

If your talking about the toolbar page rank, it has no effect on your serps.
To get high PR all you need to do is get dofollow backlinks from high pr web pages, the anchor text could say anything and the page wouldn't have to be in any way related to the content on your own website. The easiest way to do this would be dofollow blog comments. To get high in the serps you need to have relevant backlinks with optimized anchor texts from authority websites. So picture this, 2 brand new websites going for the same keyword, 1 person is getting dofollow backlinks from high pr movable type blogs not related to the keyword and in the anchor text it says the owners name. The other person is getting backlinks from relevant pages with low pr but high authority domain and the anchor text contains the keywords. Each person gets 1000 links. The 1st person would end up with a higher toolbar page rank as more page rank has been passed to his website but he would be much lower in the serps for the keyword than the second person who has optimized his backlinks from relevant sources. With the new algorithm from google's Panda. They are now looking also into the content. In your website you must put a google+ button.
This way it will help google "rank" your content. |

A lot of sites getting torn down after the update on April/May.. I hear you need to do social marketing as well such as facebook and twitter to rank higher in google.. |
