My Windows Mobile smartphone serves many purposes to me - just to share with you guys biggrin.gif
http://karhoe.net/content/view/134/1/

user posted image

1) Normal phone - Features ultimate connectivity with quadband, EDGE, Bluetooth, Infrared, WiFi

2) My webcam (Powered by WebCameraPlus )- I could use the camera of the phone as a camera, even a wireless camera using WiFi, which means I can turn on my webcam on my computer and bring the handphone around the house, even to my neighbour's house. The latest version also doubles up as a wireless microphone so you can do webconference everywhere.

3) My Skype phone (Powered by Skype Mobile )- Save that USD200 to buy a dedicated skype phone. This smartphone serves as a Skype phone so I can talk for hours if I wish to.

4 ) My Live Messenger (Powered by Windows Live Mobile )- I can chat at whichever hotspot I come across, or connect via EDGE/GPRS if I'm really desperate

5) SMS becomes easier (Powered by MyMobiler ) - Once my phone is connected to the PC, be it through USB, Bluetooth or WiFi, I can reply to SMS instantly and quick if I am infront of the computer using the keyboard. No need to use that two little thumbs. SMS are also synchronized to Outlook express using Jeyo Mobile Extender

6) My personal organizer, never miss anything anymore (Powered by Outlook Express) - I used my phone to set important dates, schedules, important meetings, assignments, etc. With Windows Vista and XP, all these can be synchronized between the computer and the phone using Microsoft Active Sync or Windows Mobile Device Centre

7) My media centre, powered by Windows Media Centre Mobile - I store hundreds of musics in the storage card.

8) My document reader (Adobe Reader LE & Office Mobile ) - With Office Mobile and Adobe reader, reading and editing documents on the go is easy

9) My Internet browser - powered by (Internet Explorer Mobile ), WAP sites are irrelevant, view sites in full bloated HTML

10) My Sideshow (Coming soon) - Soon, the device would be able to function as a sideshow device for Windows Vista, being able to control Vista gadgets on the phone.

11) My call recorder (Powered by PMRecorder ) - thinking of blackmailing me? All phone conversations are automatically recorded. Another good reason for you not to borrow my phone to call someone else biggrin.gif

12) My entertainment centre - with games such as Scrabble , Tetris , Fishopolis , Worms World Party and many more high quality games , I'll never get bored anymore.

13) My flash drive (Powered by WM5torage ) - now this device can also act as a universal plug and play flash drive, using the SD card as the storage device. Carrying files around gets easier.

14) My pocket dictionary, with MDict , I can install as many downloadable databases to my phone such as Language translators, list of countries and it's capital, and many more

15) My modem, the phone can act as a GPRS/EDGE modem or even dial up modem (but the charge would be too high) so I can hook it to my laptop and go online wherever there is a cellphone reception.

16) There are also other useful applications, such as :

* BMI Calc , use to monitor one's fitness by calculating the BMI (Body Mass Index) value, just key in your height and weight, and with a push of the button, you know your BMI.

* Moblue , use to manage incoming Bluetooth beams, to specify the location where the received file will be saved.

* FizzBill , ever eaten with a friend at a restaurant, wanted to split the bill but calculations were confusing with all the surcharge and taxes thrown in? With FizzBill, just key in the actual amount, tax rate, and the number of people sharing the bill and the amount will be generated instantly.

This and many more features are available to you when you use a smartphone powered by Windows Mobile. While many of you are crazy over Symbian phones like Sony Ericsson and Nokia, why not give Windows Mobile a try? Windows Mobile has the largest user contributed softwares, applications and games which makes your smartphone a very powerful device.

Not to mention, every single things in the phone can be configured and tweaked using registry, just like a normal computer

I'm using Dopod 577w powered by TI OMAP 850@ 200mhz

I close unused applications via Task Managers, so it's sufficiently fast enough to run these applications

By default, the phone doesn't act as a storage device, you transfer file via Microsoft Active Sync or Windows Mobile Device Centre.

So if you go to your friend's house, you need to install the above mentioned software in your friend's house to access the files in your phone.

By activating WM5torage, the phone storage card would function as a universal USB plug and play device, hence no need to install any softwares, just plug and play

I use a Dopod M700. It uses Windows Mobile 5.0 and can be a problem when viewing Mobile Word documents which are too long. Camera is lousy. Surfing is slow and I have given up on it. I view Avantgo when synching with my laptop only. I think the problem is more due to the slower processor it uses - OMAP850 running at 201 Mhz. Couldn't install the Skype Mobile program. Is it time to move on?

Well no tongue.gif

Well, as for the wireless webcam thing, you install on the desktop and then it will transfer a cab file to be installed in your phone. After that you can choose to connect the webcam via Active Sync (USB or Bluetooth)

If you want to use Wifi, you just configure the sofware in your phone to connect to your LAN IP.

If you want to do web conference, let's say through msn, just start a video call, then you will see a rainbow screen on the webcam window in your MSN, activate the webcam software and it will change to your camera image biggrin.gif

Nope le, it's a smartphone, not a PDA

It is the standardized home screen for Windows Mobile Standard 6.1 (not professional). Any WM6.1 smartphone comes with it as a default theme.

PDA running TI OMAP 850 is really a little laggy, for smatphone, it's just sufficient biggrin.gif Time to move on? If you have time to play with new device biggrin.gif

If you are talking about the black thing with those round buttons , it's not part of the phone screen ,it's part of desktop client, MyMobiler, used to view the phone screen, and on top of that, I can use the keyboard to input characters into the phone as well as using the cursor to navigate the phone laugh.gif

Ok, added.

It's too bad it doesn't work as a WiFi adapter, I think there is a work around somewhere, but it works well for PDA, not sure for smartphone

I use a Dopod M700 which seems to have a slightly higher spec than your 577w..but I find the darn device a mite too slow. Cannot read a large Word Mobile file (compared to a IPAQ 2210 PDA I had). The camera even though it is touted to be 2 MP produces poor quality pics. Music is OK as it was built for that purpose as well as for viewing 3gp files. I have tried to tweek it but performance has been lousy. I only find that it functions well in making calls and SMS. Seems that you are able to use your device effectively.. congrats. I'm thinking of getting a HTC Diamond..but waiting for comments on it.

smartphones are mainly built for lighter usage than PDA although both running the same OS. It was used mainly for call, messenging (sms/mms/push email), and calendaring where a PDA will allow many more rich applications to run. hence, there're more PDA application available than smartphone. it is amazing karhoe is able to make full use of his baby like what a PDA supposed to do.

Frankly speaking, WM have the most softwares available to it compared to Symbian as the way of programming WM softwares doesn't run too far away from programming PC softwares

Agreed..

But each has it's own pros and cons,

But it must suit your need, and most importantly,

You must be happy and satisfied with your choice and be ready to live with it....

Everyday, everywhere, there are people switching from windows mobile to symbian,
but there are also people switching from symbian to windows mobile...

For the time being, I guess I am sticking with windows mobile...

Well, the most important thing for a long battery time is to keep RAM usage to min. Always remember to close unused application..

I am totally against your statement that WM is not robust or well built.

One needs to really know how to 'exploit' the function of the phone.

May I know what does handling chemical stuff got to do with having a WM phone?

Thanks karhoe, i've found some good softwares from your 1st post i.e. PMRecorder , WM5torage..
(but PMRecorder doesnt work on my TytnII)

Can anyone suggest more softwares for PDA/Smartphone that u find very useful but not many people notice about it?

These are my recommendations:
- WMWifiRouter :- turn ur PDA to wifi router and any laptop can surf internet
- LogMeIn :- remote control your PC with PDA. of course need 3G
- Mundu IM :- let u chat YM, MSN, ICQ, Google Talk simultaneously
- Skyfire :- powerful Internet browser that can watch Youtube like on PC (but not released to other country yet except US)
- Mortscript :- custom tweak your PDA but must good in programming

Hope u guyz can share ur's thanks

ooooo.... icic.....
some task manage options like mine(o2 menu) enables me to tick/untick the "show time on title bar". if i choose not to show the clock, it becomes a battery meter.
i think "batterystatus" have the same option as well. after installing "batterystatus", tat clock at the title bar becomes a battery meter. but from the screenshot, the taskmanager logo beside the clock seems like "batterystatus"

Huh, why not, it's perfectly fine.

WM5 was last used 2 years ago, I think there's similar application, but the one iN WM6 just works perfectly, can work via BT as well.

Flash is as simple as ABC, provided you follow my guide accurately step by step, 20,000 people has used my guide and only a fraction of them screwed up because they did not follow some part properly.

WM6.1 is much faster biggrin.gif

Get an XP pc, i'm sure your friend would have it, borrow only, the only installation you require on your friend's pc is ActiveSync

I havent used WM5 for ages. No need to add my MSN, I won't be using MSN these few days, you can check the comments they posted, or post a comment, don't worry, its 99% safe biggrin.gif

Some people have tried flashing it on Vista, the only thing you can't do on Vista is the SuperCID procedure is vital, installing the ROM on Vista is possible, I posted it in my tutorial.

Well, there has to be someone biggrin.gif

There has to be one XP somewhere, well, if you INSIST on using Vista, it could be possible

Just that SuperCID has to be done using the alternative method which I posted on the bottom of the tutorial. Not sure if anyone tried that, just that the original supercid method cannot work using Vista at all.

Then you need to follow the guide I linked to modaco to install the RUU on vista.

The entire guide, you can screw any part as you like and your device won't die, except for ONE part, which is flashing the radio ROM in Step 10, it includes the radio and the bootloader, if you screw that, depending on which part you screw the device, the phone is screwed up.

Oh u mean i can just follow the vista one? Ya there is XP, but not with my fren. I can say they have migrated to vista ages ago. What makes u think they are still on XP lol. At least it is a NO among my frens. The RUU vista guide u there stated need to do superCID only can follow up. Later i try and see.

Added on November 4, 2008, 7:01 pmBUt now the prob is, even with original wm5.0, i cant get GPRS to work at the phone. I open internet explorer, it says cant find the page and i am referring to www.yahoo.com . I do everything as said in digi OCS for 577w setting but still no avail. Retry like 5 times edi.

Digi OCS guide to setting up GPRS is wrong, use the program bundled by Dopod to configure your GPRS, here you go

http://rapidshare.com/files/54689413/Data_Connection.cab

But dude REMEMBER, no one has reported to me that it works on Vista, you take the risk, if you do on XP, the risk is so much lesser.

Don't worry, you are on EDGE, just that it will show G, unless...

You flash to WM6, WM6 can differentiate EDGE and GPRS, when you're on EDGE, it will show EDGE.

WM5 also can, just some registry tweak

after installing mymobiler in ur PC. it shud pop up and ask you to direct connect ur PDA. for installation into ur PDA.
then you will get instructions for installations on ur ur pda.

mymobiler doesnt come out on ur pda, nor you can open the application like other apps.
onli when you plugin n sync with ur computer(installed with mymobiler), then it will automatically pop up. n shown at the task bar.

Well, only newb users will complain that haha

The reason the battery 'is suck' is because many of you don't know how to close an application instead of just minimizing it in the background, using RAMS = batteries

If you 'like' the theme, probably you have not seen the theme before, it is the standard theme that comes with WM 6.1

Great thread, didn't know about WM5torage using it works great:)

Smartphone with GPS as your personal navigator.Mapking or Garmin XT never leave KL without it:)Saves you lots of stress if you don't know your way and have fun using roads you never knew existed.

As a mediaplayer,I can't go without TCMP(free) or CorePlayer(pay),hook up with a wireless bluetooth headset.Movies on the go or when not (i.e stuck in traffic)smile.gif

Hye. I just wanna share sth.

Windows Mobile is now can be installed in iphone. yeah, it is true. but the name is different-quick office. if you install quick office or other application on your iphone, you will have microsoft word, excel and pdf editor application. it is very cool. I can easily type my lecturers' points in classes and can edit any word and excel document. I just want to share to you because some of my friend did not realize it . they said, iphone is useless because dont have word and excel. but, now, i could say, they are useless because they actually don't know about iphone. huhu.
