Hi all...I post this here since this is the closest section for Home stuff...
Need help from all Si Fus here..recently an electrical applicance short circuit and caused two of the fuse in the fuse box to be tripped permanently. (Can't push it back up) So now the some of the switches cannot be used. :(

So the questions are:
1. Can I replace the faulty fuse individually?
2. How much does it cost?
3. Advisable for my to DIY the replacement? (I will pull down the main fuse switch. Is there still danger?)
4. Anything that I should take note when shopping for a replacement?

Thanks in advance guys!

I use to change it myself three to four times already.

Sometimes, it is those cheapo brand of circuit breaker spoilt on itself.

1. Yes, If you know how to dismantle the switch box. But look at below warning.
2. A few ten RM, depended on brand, Hager is the most expensive, so does its better quality. Other brand don't quite familiar with.
3. No advisable, only for those knows how it works and know electrical stuff.
4. Remember to check the Ampere rating, There are different circuit breaker carry different amp rating, when buy time, check the Ampere rating.

WARNING: Those wire inside can be messy depended how wiring done previously. IF YOU DO NOT KNOW electrical stuff, and have no idea how electricity work, better hire a wireman to do it for you, labour cost won't be too costly, depended on location wise.
WARNING again, you can get electrical shock if you don't cut off the main supply from outside of your house as even you switch off the on/off switch of the panel, you still get one LIVE wire, if mistaken touch it, you can be FATAL electrical shot because it carries high AMP.

It is advisable to get a wireman do it for you. As if you knows in the first place, you won't post up to ask either. No offence.

Same thing happened to me before last year. The wireman charged RM 100 (parts + labour)

Not worth risking electrocution to save RM 100 laugh.gif

If RM80 is inclusive labour + 2 circuit breaker is considered reasonable. As you have to take into account of the travelling cost of the wireman to your house especially in KL area. Others remote part part of area (small city) may be can get a cheaper rate.

I would just get a replacement fuse and plug the fuse myself..
That's what the technician did anyway.. nothing else.

get a wireman to check for you lar ... something to do with electric better don't play play. Later you want to save some money then go DIY and you burn down your own house lagi teruk ... this type of money cannot jimat one ... But if you wan to learn something, then stand beside the wireman when he is doing his job lar ... at least next time you are aware and you have gain some extra knowledge ...

The situation has been settled. Fyi, it's called a miniature circuit breaker (MCB). Always check the rating. Make sure it's the same. Normally written C20, C10, C6... DO NOT in any circumstances, touch the LIFE cable. U might want to tape the conductor in the LIFE cable 1st.

I saw the electrician fixed for me...like damn easy...but still takut la if want to fix my self...no confidence...haha..
actually need to get back the same MCB (In my case it was C20 that was faulty) , take off the white plastic covering the row of MCB..unscrew the top and bottom part (you can see 1 row of screws at the top and bottom)..then only can pull out the faulty MCB...but like what everyone advice...DO NOT attempt to DIY if you are not sure what you're doing...this is life and death matter.. smile.gif The electrician only charged me RM80 for 2 MCB plus labour.

Something short circuit in your case. Might be due to wire or switch melting or the light malfunction.
