Hi guys, newbie here, can teach me how to breed Fighting Fish?

Everytime i tried, the male FF will keep chase the female FF & beat the female, made the female very scared & just stay @ a side, don't dare to swin to other place.

How to solve this problem? Can any guys teach me the whole steps to let them breed? Like need what size of aquarium, what is needed to do when they breed & so on.

Appreciate from your help, thanks..
*
male chase female is part and parcel.. is something like foreplay... so, let it be... just make sure the male din kill the female....

and one tips for you.. let the male see the female for a few days during the conditioning period... let's them know each other first... smile.gif

Thanks, after female lay the eggs only remove the female? May i know after 1 week and put both male & female together, around how long the females only will lay the eggs? few days? & how to know whether the female had already finish lay the eggs? sorry for so many question.
*
normally it take 1-3 days for the spawning process to take place.. if after 3 days still no eggs under the nest.. u need to recondition the pair...

the spawning process will take place under the bubblenest.. and the male will pick up the eggs and put it under the bubblenest..
after spawning.. the male will chase the female away from the nest.. So, if u saw there is eggs under the nest and the female is being chased away(means they finish the business d).. it is the best time to remove the female..

to play around with this fishes is okay.. but if you are entering show arena..

it is a undesired fish... the fish have too many fault.. simply just look at the caudal, it is rounded.. you will wasted your time to take this as breeder for show betta...

anybody know where to get female betta in port klang or klang?
so hard to get female betta!
*
if you are just playing around.. u can just get those fighter female, which worth rm1

if you are entering show arena.. i suggest you to get from local hobbist..
a quality female price range fetch from RM50-RM250(depend on quality and the willingness of breeder to sell his/her fish)

and of course, female is more important than the male.. use ur budget for female rather than a male..

and 2 female betta ^^ the tank kinda big lolz... dont know what to put...

what type it is? lolz don't know how to differentiate
*
from the puicture above.. it is a fighter...

and somehow i felt your tank is too big for spawning purpose... i suggest you to get a standard 1 footer, it speed up process of spawning..
get your fish acclimatise first before feeding.. i guess they are feed on lives foods before hand.. so, u have to slowly train them to pellet feed.

you water is not clean enough or the fish is stress, or it will bite off its tail.. it is vr common for halfmoons... and genetic background play a role too..

QUOTE(kennt0312 @ May 8 2010, 01:11 PM)
Most of these fish can live for 2-3 years in fish bowl.

Normally, bettas live two to five years depending on how they are cared for. Male bettas that live alone in large individual tanks and get daily exercise have lived six years or longer in laboratories. Typically, males purchased from a pet store are over four months old, at a point when their finnage becomes fullest and most attractive. Due to their shorter finnage, females available in pet stores are often only three to six months old.

Betta fish actually live for 4+ years, eight years is not uncommon, in a 2+ gallon tank. In petstores males and females are actually an average of two years old; a female's finnage is alway short.

2-3 years in a bowl but 6-7 in a tank. 8 years is not uncommon, though.

You may find it that your beta lives longer with different plants, and tanks.

Credit to WikiAnswers.

I thought Betta life only around 2 years.  blink.gif

sorry to dissapoint u that, wiki doesn't mean correct... wiki is man-based uploaded info.. not scientific info... if you are doing professional thesis.. u cant put wiki as references.. hope this help... look at the finnage.. i can tell its age... over a years or 2... a hm will failed to erect his finnage so well... and mostly, they will bite their tail in order for them to swim properly.. HM is not a pure splendens.. it have undergo some study of genetic background and selective breeding.. so, u cant compare a wild splendens with a hm... hope this help and no offence anyone..

why i know this?

i took part in betta competiton, and mostly i will compete in HM category.. So, i know what is the best time for a HM to show his full potential.. normally, a full potential hm will be 5-7months, when the finnage and colour fully develop(especially for red, the big scale and irids will slowly be cover by red at this age).. So, a breeder will normally spawn the fish 6 months before the competition.. and dont't believe, spawn a pair.. u know what i m talking about..

and if talking about non-splendens type.. that is different story.. let's say macrostoma.. they can live for 9 years and above.. because they reach their maturity around 1.5 years old while splendens reach its maturity at 2.5 months old..

i upload 4 of my betta pictures la.
[attachmentid=1565979] this is male as what i been told that time when i bought it in lfs.
[attachmentid=1565982] this also been told is male.

[attachmentid=1565978] this is female as been told from lfs
[attachmentid=1565981] this is female as been told from lfs

but then i just confuse as well due to the white spot.
my long fin red one, although is male, but then got the spot...
*
by looking at the ventrals from the picture.. i got at least 60% confident to tell u that, the LFS is right...

I got a male & female, put in a same aquarium but separate with the board just like yours, my female can't stop to ask for food, whenever see me she will keep swim at me to ask for food, i put lot of pellets but she can finish it in just a while. While my male don't know why, yesterday still got eat, but this morning, he eat & eat & vomit out all the ate just now, after vomit & eat again, & vomit again. Really don't know what's the problem is.
*
vomit out means it is full d.. stop feeding now..
and in order to give a long-run good heath for an adult fish.. try skip feeding(feed 2 days and stop 1 day) and a small portion(let say three piece of 0.1mm diameter pellets) are enough for each feeding.. don't over feed...

feed twice a day is more than enough.. the main key is frequent but less...
stop feeding ur female... else when she get too big.. it is hard to spawn her d.. the male cannot embrace her...

male can spawn from age of 3 months to entire lifespan provided it can blow thick bubble nest and still strong enough to embrace the female... Normally, male that is older than 1 year old, it is hard to spawn him d.. but that is still chance that old male can spawn.. just not easy.. So, get a young male...

you can know the female is spawning mood when u saw the vertical bar and if the belly is big enough... normally, 3 months old female is mature enough to spawn.. rest her about 2 weeks to 1 months.. u can spawn her again..
and remember female is dominant than male.. means the frys normmaly depend more on female.. that is y, female price is higher..

So, get a nice female to spawn..

u will always listen.. "nice fish"... "good looking", but it doesn't help u to improve.. so, here i give u some negative but constructive comments, so that u can improve on ur line...

1st pic,
spade tail, long anal fin, bump head, short body, narrow dorsal..bad scaling..

3rd pic,
masking not fully cover... anal not sharp..

5th pic,
scaling, narrow dorsal and weird pattern of anal..

6th fish
uneven color

8th fish
nice colour, but rounded caudal, dorsal need to improve..

9th..
unven caudal ray branching!!

join bettakakis...and post ur picture there... sai, the certified IBC judge will give u more comments...

the last one u show is wild betta macrostoma... it is the king of betta, i would said.. but, it is not as easy as show betta.. it require some extra knowledge on it...i have a few batch.. if you are looking for it.. let me know...

Added on February 21, 2011, 1:17 pmHi, Curapts, received ur pm regarding this HM too.. worth or not worth is depend on yourself... sometime you will fairly cheap price for a perfect fish and sometime you spent a lot of a rubbish.. So, it is up to u.. For me, if you want to use this fish as breeder, i would say no.. because there is so much of irrids on body and intensity of red colour or so low.. furthermore.. the caudal is not sharp... anyway, happy hunting..

i m back to scene... Hello Guys.. smile.gif

Hi Blisguy, received ur pm too.. U may be mislead by my comment above.. Sorry to let u down that i dont have any fancies at the moment(the comment was actually refer to Macrostoma)... My collections are more to solid colours, but occasionally, i would have sala or tri-bands...

If you are really interested in Fancy HMs, you may look for bobby with reasonable price... i believe at rm50-rm100, you would get a perfect fancy HMs d.. So, take your time to hunt for ur precious, dont rush in decision...

Hi, guys.... in fact, i m still breeding( not myself, hhahaha) betta, but not show betta, i m more into wildbetta.. After settle down in Johor for few months, i have back into "show" Arena and may be ready for upcoming Aquarama.. hopefully.. winks tongue.gif... i m still at the ealy stage to regain my previous line.. hopefully, i would have something to offer in the coming months but not so soon lah.....

Happy betta keeping, dude... !!!

Cheers,
Felix
