betta fries cant consume BBS straight away,they might choke to death,daphnia or infusoria is better for the 1st few week

maybe you shod i to have just pic up again ..... but more in to hm now, i us to keep the 2rm typ but to rely fight for money ... but now is just for show i love the colors rely bring a smile on my face!

that should be infusoria its some microorganisms cause by our air..something like that..in details u have to do searching

ic.... but fist i rely have to get my mail fix up now he is in a 1fit tank hope it grow to a 10cm ! hahaha

I get mine from a fish shop.But not everyday got stock
Will ask my dad where that shop is

Bukit Jalil...I'm no very familiar with that place. I stay in Puchong now, and there's a lacking of proper aquarium shops here. I still go to Irene Aquarium in PJ, or you can try Nautical in Subang. Pretty good shop.

Blissguy, I don't recommand feeding baby guppies to your betta if you plan to breed him. He may eat his own fry in the future @_@

I never tried daphnia because they were labled "water fleas" and I was afraid that the excess in the water my cling on to my bettas' gills. I dunno if it was true, but I just avoided it. Please correct me if I'm wrong. They look pretty scary.

mikacarrick, chicken poop?? Ewwww....that is so gross and i think it's dangerous because poop contains lots of bacteria and viruses.

Fionayee, the colour was natural actually. I fed the older fry blood worms. Maybe those helped.

How do you rear your frys?Do you change the water often?

Daphnia is okay,they don't kill fishes or anything.I've fed my fishes daphnia on rare occations in the past and everything was fine.

EDIT : Just paired my fighting fish up Male and female showing interest in each other so hopefully will see some fry soon

Here's a guide (from my experience). Please pardon any spelling mistakes.

Breeding Betta










Separating Sexes.
Around two to four months, males start developing brighter colors and slightly longer fin extensions. If you keep lots of them together, they fight a little bit, but not much. Once you separate your males into individual containers, they start wanting to fight. Many females also get very aggressive when you separate them. And some females fight when kept with other females. These are guidelines, not rules.

Change Your Water.
Weekly water changes will make your bettas grow faster. So will larger containers. So will frequent SMALL feedings.



Feeding guide:
Option # 1. Feed them Infusoria.
Breeders who start their baby bettas on infusoria usually rear 90% of their spawns -- some 400 to 600 babies. Get your cultures started at least two weeks before you set up your breeders. Raise it in non-aerated quart jars filled with aged water.

Option # 2. Feed Newly Hatched Shrimp.
Breeders who start their betta fry on newly hatched brine shrimp will rear spawns about half the size of those who start theirs on infusoria. Try your hatching methods early so you know they work, and you know your “eggs” (really cysts) will hatch for you. For best results, feed infusoria their first two weeks and start adding brine shrimp their second week.

Option # 2.5. Feed Microworms.
Possibly better than Option # 2. Use same as brine shrimp. Better, use Option # 2 and # 2.5. Best, go with Option # 1, then add #2 and # 2.5 two weeks later.

Option # 3. Powdered or Liquid Fry Food.
You will successfully rear about 5% to 10% of your spawn if you start them on powdered or liquid fry food -- about 50 bettas. Your betta fry don’t eat those foods. Actually, the infusoria naturally occurring in your water eat the bacteria that eat the liquid food, and the baby bettas eat the infusoria. There are just not enough of the infusoria surviving this way to feed many baby bettas. Only the strongest survive.

excellent breeding caresheet,I think I'll be going with the infusoria as feeders but I'm thinking to get microworms while my infusoria is growing.Do you know where I can get some microworms?

Hahahahaha..I was going to tell you to stop calling me "bro", but decided to see how long till you figured out.


I know a lot because my parents weren't and still aren't into my fish keeping hobby. During the period of my betta breeding, they have said things like:
"I'm going to cook all your fish (my mom)", "I'm going to pour them into the drain", "I'm going to send (not even sell...) them all to the aquarium shop. FOR FREE! (my mom and dad)" and the worst "I'm going to throw away all your aquariums (my dad)".

I think the harder you try to keep you hobby alive, the more you learn. Dude, I dunno if you're a breeder, but trust me, when your little babies hatch, you'll be so so happy. And when they start growing up, producing nice colours and fins, you'll be going Nothing beats that.

The female will look very fat and you can see a white spot on the belly. If you want to condition a female (meaning there is no white spot yet), you can place them in two seperate containers, side to side so they can see each other. The male will built a nest and the female will take about 1 week to produce eggs (become fat).

Then you can put them together.

Hey beerbottles just wanna thank you for the fantastic read and the effort you took to come up with such a nice guide. As I'm helping my gf babysit her 2 female bettas during the CNY period, reading your post certainly reminded me of the time when I was much younger when I bred bettas.

Didn't know much about feeding the young though as I only gave breadcrumbs/flakes as recommended by my LFS then. Ended up with only around 10 good babies. Reading the recent posts made by you guys was really enjoyable and happy CNY all

here the male and female ..... i am not sure will come out any nice color .
but the female is so much bigger then the male i am not sure will work out.

so step one get the food ready
2 put my betta in same place but with a cup fist
3 next day let it try out?
not sure female have any egg..
then one done take out the female
leave the male for 2 days
then take him out ? by then the food will be ready? i guess.
oh man sound like ah hard job ....
