Hi guys, can recommend any heatsink for my old PC? icon_question.gif

P4 2.4Ghz, socket 478, stock fan.
Idle = 39 degree
Full load = 61 degree

p.s.
Idle = not doing anything with computer for 15 minutes
Full load = run Prime95 torture test for 15 minutes

The main reason I wanna replace is noisy fan is killing me! Already 6 years and I've had enough!!! shakehead.gif

Looking for a quiet fan.
Budget: Around RM 100 (This PC I just for usual daily works, I already have anotehr new PC that's why won't put too much budget in this)

Thanks bro but I couldn't find the different between 2.8 and 3.2 Ghz for 478.
I wonder why the requirement base on the processor speed?

Any other recom? coz I not sure it can used on my comp, it's 120mm, and it says 3.2Ghz and above.

What's different between ThermalRIGHT and ThermalTAKE??? rclxub.gif

Ignore that, it doesn't matter if you use a 2.8GHz or a 3.2GHz processor.
If it's made Socket 478, then it's bound to fit in all Socket 478, no matter what speed you use.

If you can find used Thermalright XP-120, then that's the best heatsink for Pentium 4 Socket 478 processors.

Thermalright XP-90 is also good.
The only downside of XP-90 is you can only use 90MM fan.

Remember this fact, the smaller the fan, the noisier they are.

I suggest you buy this:
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1527622

Thermalright SI-120 may not be as good as Thermalright XP-120, but it performs better than Thermalright XP-90.
Plus, you can use a 120MM fan on it, better airflow, lower noise.

You don't have to buy a high speed fan for it, just low speed would be good enough.

Also, don't even bother buying that Zalman CNPS 9500, it's crappy.
I know a lot of Zalman fanboys wouldn't agree with me but to me, all Zalman heatsinks is crappy.

Hey guys,

I've googled around and have gotten different answers.so I'd just like to confirm here.

Is it necessary to apply thermal paste on the processor (LGA 1156,Core i5) if I'm using the stock cooler? Also would using thermal paste of another brand like Arctic Silver instead of the one bundled with the intel processor and stock cooler make a significant difference in keeping the CPU temperature low? Thanks.

Hi bros, need you guys to check the base of my xigmatek hsf. please refer to the pic.

Attached Image

I've circled it with red circles. I lapped this sometime ago, and I'm afraid this is the sign that I've lapped it too much. What do you guys think? And wonder whether this effect its performance. Thx for the advice blush.gif

Note: Sorry for poor quality pic, only have phone camera.

hmm..cant really tell

but seems like oxidation to me

assuming if its just minor oxidation, it wont be likely to affect the performance imho

performance kacau when the hsf is dirty or when the fluids in the pipes leaked
