hi everybody, i've been away for a few months from Desktop Customization thread since i came to Australia, no time to go desktop modding and due to the crappy laptop with 1gb ram and built-in gpu i don't feel like want to do anything to it...

but now i want to give it a try although just with firefox and foobar on my RAM is already using 80% of the total usage sweat.gif .

ok, since i'm using Vista and i don't want to mess around with the system file, so i was looking for a '1-click-style-changer' type of software, and i've found this Japanese software quite useful.

StyleSelector - let you switch to any 3rd party visual style with just one click, what you need to do is only to place the folder that contains mssstyles file in the 'Styles' folder, and you can switch to it just by applying the Visual style. It is very easy to use and you don't need to install any program. It also lets you to change the current font used by Windows to any fonts that you installed.

i've tested it and it works with windows Vista, but i'm not sure about XP as it is designed for Vista. If you've tested it and confirm it's working on XP do let us know.

I'm using 32 bit version of Windows Vista. It appears to support only 32 bit, but i think you could give it a try though.

Easy, you place your downloaded visual style into the 'Styles' folder, remember that mssstyle file must be in the root of your visual style folder. For example, if you got a folder called 'Aero', it must contain the mssstyle file. Look at the translated webpage fariz provide, the diagram explains how to place the folder, a bit confusing at first, but once you get round to it you'll be surprised how easy it is.

You have to put them in correct folder if not they won't show. For example, if your folder structure is 'Aero Visual Style/Aero/(en-US+Shell+Aero.mssstyles), you have to change it to 'Aero/(en-US+Shell+Aero.mssstyles' and place it under Styles folder, so it will look like this:
'Styles/Aero/(en-US+Shell+Aero.mssstyles'. It won't show in the menu if you got it wrong.

I believe it doesn't work with XP. However, i don't think you need this for XP since there is already a user-friendly UXTheme patcher for XP.

There is no need to patch your system files, that's also the reason i'm using this. Just select 'Default Style' if you want to restore to original look.

Have you followed the instruction? It is pretty easy to do it, just make sure that you got the folder path right.

Provided folder path is correct, what you have to do is simply launch StyleSelector.exe and select one of the visual styles on the list.
