Hi all,

a little update here..

I sent my flash to nikon service center last week, and got it back today..
"Repaired Motor Base" is written on the receipt.

It is working fine now.. the zoom head will zoom and stay on a certain position, and I can see the bulb moving, before this, the bulb was not moving even I hear the motor sound, it just stay at 24mm..

Thanks for all advices, for those who is going to buy a sb600/sb800, please make sure to check for this problem.

hello guys,

I just got my SB600 few weeks ago, still learning how to use effectively..

I notice that the zoom head setting on the SB600 LCD..

it keeps showing and blinking "--" where I think it should be displaying some focal length,

I read through the manual, I already enable the auto zoom head,
and tried to set my lens to every focal length, (from 18-55mm),
yet, the reading still show "--" and blinking, pressed the "Zoom" button, still no changes..

Because i notice that my flash seems underpowered even it set it the manual mode and at 1/1 (max output),
I suspect i messed up the zoom head setting,

any ideas ??

I am using nikon d40 with 18-55mm VR.

Thanks in advance.

i tried 90degree and every possible angles.

When i first power up the flash, there is number there, 24mm, after i turn the zoom ring on my lens, i can hear a sound, like some mechanical is zooming or moving, but i didn't see anything move from bulb of the flash.. the sound lasted for about 2 seconds, after that it keeps showing "--" and blinking, and even when i press "Zoom" button, nothing changes,

tried set to manual zoom head, i still cant see any numbers,
switch to auto zoom head, still no numbers..

Reset to default setting ?? done that many times..

I have no idea..

anyone with D40+18-55mm lens + SB-600 have this issue ??

i only saw the 14mm if i power it off and lower down the diffuse plate, and on it again, after that, if i pull up the diffuse plate, the flash will make a noise like "gee gee gee".. then stop, then the "--" blinking.

same thing if i press the zoom button.

by right it will follow the lens focal length (closest to available widest) ??
did it make sound when it is changing the zoom head position ??

Added on August 31, 2008, 10:42 pmand the "--" already blinking from the first day, i thought it is normal, until i read the manual..

i guess i will visit nikon service center this tuesday..

thanks for all advise..

now i know my unit got problem,

i need to know how should a normal unit work ??

is it when i set to auto zoom head ( the ZOOM M OFF in the CSM ), the zoom head will change when i turn my lens ?? any noise when the zoom head is changing position ??

and on the manual zoom head ( the ZOOM M ON in the CSM), i should be able to set the zoom head manually and the numbers just stay there ??
again, any noise when the zoom head is changing position ?
