try it yourself first. for me i feel that the upper buttons for calls, soft menus, media button, are too close together. and for the keypad, you cant differentiate the placing of the numbers since there is no "separation" between the numbers. very difficult to sms if you dont look at the phone.

Ok i was at Sunway Pyramid today and I went to the Nokia Store to check out the phone. So happy that I saw both N78 and N79 (real sets) put out there for testing. Alamak but the N79 hang already. The store assistant tried to take out the battery and reinsert to reset it, but still hanged.

In the end, the store assistant was kind enough to open one from a new box to let me try. First thing is SMS. I feel that the keys are further apart as compare to N78 which is good. If you dont look at the phone, you might press the wrong keys but I think I can get use to it and eventually strike the right keys. As I stated before, the soft menu keys, call and hangup, cancel button are all too close together. All in all, not bad.

N79 can be felt to be slimmer than N78. Opening the camera door will turn on the camera function.

I didnt want to play too long. I only tried SMS. It is unfortunate that the demo set hang if not I can stay there and play with all the functions.

So now the BIG QUESTION - which colour to buy? White or Grey? The White front comes with Brown, Green and Blue while the Grey comes with Brown, Red and White. Actually I kinda of like the White front more but prefer the Red and White back covers. Thinking of trading with others that bought or buying the Grey model.

Ok I change my mind from N78 back to N79.

Whats the best price now?

How lucky to own a perfect set, myf76! Another lesson to teach us to buy ori!

A funny thing regarding keypad, now I understand why the older N78 (and N82) has a keypad design with their keys crowded together, leaving ample spaces on the edges. I read so many reviews from professional reviewers that complained about their keypad designs being not fully using the free space on the phone, so now Nokia came out with just what they asked for (ie. the keys spreading out all over the bottom area of the phone) in N79. And it shows that there are problems with this design. If u tried N79's keys, u will find that those keys near the edges like 3,6,9,# (right edge) are pretty uncomfortable to reach for right-handers! It will make u feel almost like losing a grip on the phone (with one hand holding) while trying to press on it because it is too near the edge, and the thumb is almost releasing the grip. So now, I use both hands when typing, worrying if I may accidentally drop my brand new device! But I wouldn't consider this a big problem.

I think the white N79 may look better than grey, and the key markings may be easier to read. But the grey N79 feels cool, and sometimes under certain lighting condition, the front grey panel may look whiter than the edges, giving u a white N79 feel.
*
thats what i feel too..... actually the N78 keys are closer together which makes it easier to press. The only key that is too far is the Cancel button on the N78 as it is a bit too far to press with the thumb.

somehow the green and  red here looks awful compare to those see in nokia website.. lmao...

i dunno why they never combine white and red back covers for the white but instead it goes to the grey.
the dull blue and green color doesnt goes well with the white front, i feel. but thats only me....

hi there, i wanna ask the owner of n79 here.. wat are the accessories come with the box? For ori set i knew that there will be 1 headset, 2 cover, 4Gb memory card and charger. What about AP set? Did they take out some accessory? i find that the price between AP set and ori is too large.. tat's y i wanna know it before i get this phone. Thanks in advance

Sales package contents*

Nokia N79
Two extra Nokia N79 Xpress-on™ smart covers
Nokia Battery (BL-6F)
Nokia Travel Charger (AC-5)
Nokia Connectivity cable (CA-101)
Nokia 4GB microSD card (MU-41)
Nokia Music Headset (HS-45,AD-54)
User Guide
Get Started Guide
DVD

I just took delivery of a white N79. The package contents are the same as you see above and they are original (as told by the dealer). Got Nokia hologram sticker on the battery. BUT ..... one thing! My set came with blue, red and white covers. The box that it came in state it is a Grey color N79 which means the box and the phone doesnt match. Im quite happy with this as I wanted the red and white covers (which should come with the Grey set) but I wish I have the dark brown cover which is suppose to be standard for both Grey and White. Anyway I accept my fate. Maybe someone will swap his brown cover with me for my blue.

I bought at 1290 with 2 years Telstra warranty from jjsim. Nice fella.

ok since i only got this phone late afternoon, i still havent figure out yet what everything does so I will give you my first impression in points form.

1. the phone seems to look better now. not that i say this because i bought it but i wasnt impress with the looks when i saw it at the shop. now i feel its quite an elegant phone. mine is white. no fingerprint marks like black phones.

2. the keypad was flimsy when i first tested a dummy set and a demo set. but mine, i get a solid feel. Its hard to sms while not looking at the keypad cause you cant feel where the keys are.

3. i really like the sliding switch to lock and unlock the keypad. no need to press menu and *

4. when i put on the red or white cover, it does changes theme to match. but the themes are just colors, no patterns. so in the end, its really not a big deal function.

5. there are some pictures stored in the memory card. i played them thru and they look really good and sharp on the LCD. One thing I cant figure out, when I play them as a slide show, the "power saver" or maybe the "screen saver" function still kicks in when the slide is running. I wonder how to overcome this.

6. there are ngage games stored in the memory too but i think they are trials.

7. it comes with plenty of ring tones.

8. camera: the noise is so apparent during night shots even with flash on. havent really play fully with the camera yet.

9. the phone feels heavy and slim

10. the camera's LED are very bright. i wonder how to use them as a torchlight.

11. i tried to use GPS, but Im wondering do I need to download maps?

12. camera - shots can only be taken with the dedicated camera button at the side. i wish the navi wheel button can be use too but no. The side button is hard to use unless you turn your phone sideways

13. the navi-wheel is on the smaller inner button. I thought it was the outer ring like N78 but no. Its too sensitive to use and always overshoot its intended target but otherwise cool. Sometimes nothing seems to happen until it suddely kicks in. You wont understand this until you have one to try.

14. there is no worry for white sets to get dirty or fade color as it is underneath a clear plastic.

so far im really happy with it ! icon_idea.gif

the phone seller says I should charge it for 8 hours initially but i got a feeling that is wrong. I only charge it till it says "full"
what say you?

Im going to sync from Outlook too. How to make sure it syncs from PC to Phone? I dont want it to sync from Phone to PC and wipe out everything since the phone is empty.

white color wont fade? i doubt that.. i hvn compare grey and white phone. i personally do think white looks better. however im afraid the white color will become milky white after 1 yr. i hv 3250 XM edition which is red and white and the white color become yellowish after 1 yr. I wanted a white n79 but after further consideration i might juz stick to grey version. So for those n79 white user.. wat say u? is white easy to take care or wat?
*
go take a look at the phone and you will see that there is no direct contact with the "paint". both grey and white will have the same resistance to dirt or fade as they are covered in plastic.

for those with AP sets, may i know whether ur sets have those foreign logo on the body of the phone or in the menu options?  For example, Orange, Telstra, Vodafone.

The main reason why i hate AP sets are these.  if u managed to get an AP set without these logos do tell me ur seller please.
