I first want to apologize to the esteemed mods if I have put this thread in the wrong place. If I have, please feel free to move it.

I have a very quick question since it involves spray painting. I've been wanting to spray my laptop to give it a nice color and gloss coat but have failed so far. I used plastic model paint but they rub off too easy. Can anyone recommend a particular brand of paint that works? And maybe tips as well to keep the gloss coat from fading?

no idea maybe u should try asking in the case mods section

sandpaper the surface first to scrape off any layers on it. better until u can see the bare plastic. wash it till its clean and dry it completely.
about paint, well, try samurai brand. i've used 3 arrows and its nice too. as long as its not thick. spray many thin layers instead of one thick layer. dont worry about uneven sprays on the 1st-2nd layer, spray many2 thin layers.

Hehe, just some confession tho... I used the blasting machine in my factory to clean out the old paint.... wah lau so clean you won't believe man... hehehehe. So if anyone wanna remove paint, I recommend use blasting machine if you know anyone who have access to that kind of equipment... best media to use is plastic media with the air pressure at about 25 psi and up as necessary.

Need to know what model is ur laptop, so can see what surface is it. and i dont advise u to spray ur laptop if u move it all the time.

Ooo my laptop is some taiwan brand la. I brought back from US one. Brand I think many will not hear before la... its called Averatec. The chassis is pretty much plastic la. In fact, the original paint also came off adi previously and that was what trigerred me to re-paint it to begin with.

Anyway its quite old adi also la, I've had it for I think about 3 years now.

lol awesome if like that. haha. blasting machine, if i had that, sure will come in handy.
no no, samurai n 3 arrows can be bought at any hardware store of paint shop.. but samurai sometimes not sold in hardware stores, but motor workshops usually have. they are heat resistant and the clear paint gives a nice glossy finish.
also, warming the can gives a more even finish as its more..em. how u call it. 'cair' and will spread nicely. soak it in warm (not hot water la. or else the pressure will build up n kaboom!. just warm enough). spray under the sun with no wind or in a confined space with no wind. wind tend to blow away your paint and end up using more than a can for small projects. and if ur spraying in a confined space, use a mask. the paint particles are very minute. but if you wear a mask, and after finish spraying, the mask will turn color into that paint's color.

Try to strip your laptop top part.Then paint it.

Yeaaa good idea... I'll definitely do that. I got airbrush for gunpla and I'm pretty good at it but somehow very weird when I try to spray using can paint like very hard to control the spray quality. Maybe I not doing as your suggestion that's why look like some alien took a crap on my laptop hahaha.

I'll definitely go hunt for the brands... hopefully the hardware shop near my hse got la.....

By the way, anybody in PJ area wanna help me paint for a fee? Hehehehe.

Dude,how did you painted it? Using 1 direction or Mix directions?

I generally go from left to right..... my handedness thing....... why? the spray quality is that bad? I not used to spraying such a wide panel before... I mean you know, gunpla involve small pieces generally.

use normal spray like samurai and lastly coat with clear sure protect ur paint

dude, you did sand blasting? i too have access but after seeing the stripping damage it can do to metal, I'm afraid on testing it on plastic. Any advise you can share?

Dude, there are differrent kinds of blasting as you know la. The media that I used was made of plastic. So that's why I didn't run such a high risk. I think sand will be ok as well depending on the grit of the sand, I strongly suggest the finest grit you can find. My recommendation to do it is to start at a very very low pressure. I don't know how low for sand coz I didn't use sand but I started mine at 20psi and moved up about 5. Max psi I had for plastic was about 25 only. No more.

By the way, I didn't do it myself because I didn't have any experience with blasting. I had a colleague who's darn good at blasting help me do it. If you wanna do I also strongly recommend getting help from somebody who's done the process before. Blasting is like an art apparently, must have a feel for it.

ey a friend of mine told me airbrushing can use samurai's spray right?. but need to take out the paint inside the can first then put in the airbrush little tank.

The paint job unfortunately now like crap already and that would be in a big part thanks to my incredibly lousy painting skillz hahaha... I'll just stick to gunpla.

can take out paint inside the spray can meh wont meletup if u do that? compress air inside dangerous woooo

I agree on that. Better don't take the risk. I suppose you can puncture it but then again with the compressed air rushing out... I think the paint also will "rush" out as well......

Ok as for airbrushing the laptop, anyone got a good design idea? I thought maybe wanna put the whole fire effect thing ala fast and furious... but might be a bit corny...
