One day we organize a trip to Penang
Go there TT.

There a few spots in Batu Maung & Teluk Kumbar area.

By d way, this place is not abandon...

very old style train station...

abandon mansion sounds nice I always imagine shooting models in those rundown environments....give the photo hell lots of impact in BW shots but since i nvr been to the eerie place that you stated...i dunno how is it like..just my suggestion

The Gurney can be quite nice leh, Maniac did a shot there.

Actually if you go around Gurney Drive also can be interesting.

Then also there's an area around Queensbay Mall...... it's like seaside, can see PG Bridge (very small) but the nice view is the angle that can see the island.

ooh... never mind but i just wanna give suggestion coz last week i went there for dept dinner
u can go there for having dinner too for around $150 per pax and the food there is very delicious
during night time the water inside the pool is very calm so i m quite attracted by the garden view especially at night
tried to shoot with my PnS but very low light condition

i've seen wedding photography once in kuala semilang, juru
its a nice restaurant with muddy beach/paya bakau
kinda nice when sunset
and its a remote place, meaning more privacy

Come penang must shoot with history house as background just got feel ma.

yea...abandoned mansion.i like looking at the place...all stuffs are rundown accept the model...it creates some kind of contrast that stands out the model..cool right?

i personally dun like gurney drive much...queensbay also...too many people there walking back and forth...
i got a friend was doing a photoshoot at crowded area at gurney drive, camera mounted on the tripod...when he was
giving advice to the model, dslr with tripod kena hijacked...and there goes end of story...
very fast action robber in penang...

that haunted mansion just nearby only, got an abandon pool in front of that mansion, scary

last time HK TVB crew got go there to film it

sounds eerie...i know near e&o hotel, theres a abandoned school la...very big one..

the place there is now a carpark...the building is a very run down building..duno when it will collapse also...

im thinking of organizing a photo shooting there... when i get a model, lets us penang shooter gather there...

There is a new place in Jelutong highway. Just near the exit at Sg. Pinang, turn right. There is new 2 1/2 storey house project and a nice sea view with jetty too. Anyway, I'm from Penang and interested if anyone organized a model shooting session in Penang.

Best place for getting the essence of Penang into a shoot would a simple house, a typical chinese house. Huh? Why?

I believe that penang itself is a bastion of Chinese culture and simple living at it's best, i grew up in one of these houses, my grandfather was really a cinapek, he wore a pagoda singlet and the same cheap horse brand pants day in and day out, he loved working as a carpenter and making us furniture and had a side of the house dedicated to his "workshop", in the middle of house was an altar to Kuan Yin, that i could always see the flicker of in the dark when i slept in the living area.

My grandma would always wear those old granny baju and my cousins would help her cook wearing biasa t-shirt, shorts and selipar jepun, with their hair tied back, really chinese way of dressing at home. They'd help cook dinner and when it was time for it, everyone would crowd around this small table with my uncles and aunts and you'd see 10 people around a small round table crowding for food.

After makan everyone would go outside on the porch, sit down, read magazines, my grandparents would have a smoke, us younger fellers would sit by the small fish pond my grandad built and watch fish. Some would watch this 20 year old TV, the rest would relax and pop open a tiger beer and chat in the kitchen.

Now that's f***ing penang man. Not some goddamned botanical garden, it's about the people and laid back culture if you ask me. Try getting model to dress up in a simple ah lian at home style, do some home chores and get the lighting right, simple but holds meaning.

That will hold true if the thread is about places to shoot in Penang to showcase the Penang flavour. But this thread is more like a thread of places to shoot in Penang, it doesn't need to be about Penang. It just have to be IN Penang.

So I guess all the botanical gardens have to go in since they are valid places for a photo shoot

Garden shoots are so saturated it's become a cliche. It's a special place, dig out it's soul and take pictures of it.

me too, last monday go to the new aeon city at BM... when entered i just snap my first shot the stupid guard warn me liao
but anyway the place u introduce is very nice... if free i go there shoot shoot

lol, last 2 week i went there and got this dance show
took pictures like hell pon no one warned me
just dont take pictures of shops and the ppl la
shoot the event or deco

what lighting are you using?
If you are using natural lighting, look for places with shades. Sunlight too harsh will spoil your photo and also make your model face looks squeeky.

you can also you strobe to compliment with ambient light. the subtle amount of light can open up shadows under the model chin and nose.

Some crappy places can make wonderful backdrop for portraiture shooting.

all the way long batu ferringghi beach is already a good scenery spot...doesnt neccesary to choose sunset view..

having a horse as shooting object? hmm...still a new thing to try out...

I went in to Teluk Kumbar last week trying to find the beach brother Maniac was talking about. End up couldn't find it an only manage to get some quick shots at the beach opposite spice gardens.

Although its kinda long ago, let me answer ur question. The Perai Railway station is located around the area of GIANT Butterworth.

Sorry for necrothreading. Sadly, I found out about this train depot only after it was turned to dust. This is the revised Google satellite view of the place. And here's a 2014 blog post about its demise.

Yes, it was tore down around 2011/2012 and is a container port now.

It seems to me that Penang is on a neck-breaking rate to divorce itself from its old ties with colonialism to a new level of upscale development. Just walking around Gurney Drive these days it makes you feel like you're in Pseudo-pore (fake version of Singapore). I was strolling down Georgetown the other day and happened on a shophouse once abandoned for ages. I saw 2 mui-mui-zai inside who looked like college girls. As one of them steps out, I ask what this shophouse is. She answers, "It's an air bee and bee". "What what and what?" I thought. (Admittedly I'm a sua-ku from the kampungs.) The girls were probably dashing to some wild head-spinner party somewhere, so I had to check the internet to understand what a "bee and bee" is. And what the bee has to do with oxygen.
