Thanks for the pics, that confirms the laptop's existence and hopefully Dell will be able to release it on January next year.

Look very nice. I like the 16 one.

However with all BAD story about DELL, I think I'll pass for this time around.

Predicted specs at a glance

Based on Dell's leaked slides:

- Centrino 2 (Montevina) Based system: 10666MHz FSB, Intel PM45 & ICH9M chipsets.
- DDR 2 & DDR 3 SODIMM RAM support, max capacity: 4GB
- Integrated Webcam with facial recognition
- Integrated Biometric fingerprint scanner
- 13.x" widescreen LCD with edge-to-edge floating display
- Integrated wireless solutions: Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n, WiMAX, Bluetooth, Ultra-Wideband (UWB) & Mobile Broadband
- Hybrid SLi graphics from NVIDIA
- Slot loading optical drive (Blue-Ray's probably optional)
- Intel Turbo Memory (Probably optional)
- LED Backlit Display (Optional)
- Illuminated Keyboard (Optional)

Based on the pictures of Studio XPS 13:

Left side
1 x Kensington Lock
1 x VGA output connector
1 x Gigabit Ehternet LAN connector
1 x USB 2.0 Port
1 x DisplayPort
1 x HDMI connector

Right side
1 x ExpressCard slot*
1 x IEEE 1394 Connector
1 x Slot loading optical drive
1 x e-SATA/USB Combo Port
1 x AC Adaptor Connector

Front side
1 x 8 in 1 Media Card Reader*
1 x Microphone input connector
2 x Headphone output connector
1 x Infra red port*

Back side
No ports (Only ventilation outlet and battery compartment)

Others
2 x Multimedia loudspeakers
1 x 1.3* Megapixel Webcam
* Specific figures/specifications are unknown, plain guessing at the moment.

First impressions:

The integrated loudspekers are tiny! Don't expect them to churn out high decibels; sound quality? Won't impress either, stick to headphones or external loudspeakers.

2 USB 2.0 ports (one of them is a e-SATA/USB Combo port, the other is a standard USB port), not quite enough but still better then nothing.

No modem line connector, broadband FTW; dial-up RIP.

Where's the fingerprint reader as promised? Did Dell integrate it into the touchpad?

The top part of the display lid is bound to attract some fingerprints; leather adds a nice touch on the bottom part of the display lid; brushed aluminium will be my guess for the middle part. Does the Dell logo glows? I want.

Palm rest area is glossy too I think, another fingerprint magnet?

Edge-to-edge floating display spells horrid reflections, even if the LCD panel itself isn't glossy; toothpick not included.

No direct access to HDD and RAM sticks, that could be a pain in the butt for upgrading purposes, considering the amount of screws on the underside panel, 10 +/- 2 screws, yeah.

Well, if you're always on AC, good news; once you pop out the battery you wouldn't have to tilt your notebook using an eraser or a pile of books so that it won't losses it balance. Inspiron 6400 for instance or Dell XPS for that matter has one of the four rubber feet on the battery, the notebook will act like a see-saw without the battery in place.

Where are the multi-media buttons? Maybe they're touch senstitive...

The keys on the keyboard looked pretty good, in fact it's very similiar to the keys on the Sony VAIO VGN-FZ11L's keyboard. Let's just hope the keyboard has a great tactile feedback to complement with the looks.

Status LEDs are on the front side of the notebook.

Is it just me or did anyone find those four screws (that are part of the display hinges) staring at you all the time? shakehead.gif An eyesore I reckon. Don't get me wrong, this laptop is gorgeous; piano black finish, brushed aluminium and a touch of leather, it's one of the best looking XPS to date.

Dell decided to retain VGA output and ditch S-Video/DVI output; HDMI and DisplayPort ports are a bonus for those who own a full HD LCD TV.

2 person with 2 headphones, that's where two 3.5mm headphone jacks come in handy.

Some people claimed that slot loading drives can be noisy at times, how true is that statement?

I have high expectations for this notebook's battery life, with Hybrid SLi, LED backlit display and Centrino 2 processor being the main reason why. But these features (and some of them are optional) comes with a hefty price tag.

The touchpad doesn't have a hardware on/off switch (like the one on HP dv5 series), but the touchpad drivers should detect the presence of an external poiting device (mouse) and disables the touchpad.

There's no visible latch mechanism for Studio XPS 13, but I hope the display lid will shut neatly, otherwise the foreign objects might get in between the keyboard and the LCD display during transportation.

Weight shouldn't be an issue with a 13" notebook, it'll probably be less than 2kg without the AC power adapter.

Thank you for your time.

@Onyx_black, the e-Sata port on the right side is a USB/e-Sata combo port, so essentially u're looking at 2 USB ports.

I'm hoping the Blu-ray option is a burner and not just a reader. If that's the case then it'll be my next upgrade.
