QUOTE(kinson77 @ Aug 26 2008, 10:25 PM) @OCZ: You must be in a really great mood to sand all that. Yah. I used 2 different grits..not sure which is which. The dude initially sold me one that said 600 at the back, but that was too fine, so another shop told me to start off with what was 130 at the back, then I finished it off with the 600. Not sure if I was supposed to sand it all off, but since it was my first try, figured I should, hehe. Can I normally just paint over the original color/paint? Cheers, Kinson Try smoothen all the panel 1st by using 1000 and 1200 grit. You need to do this from preventing swirl from appearing when you painted it. Before you apply the color you want,eg: yellow, paint a proper primer for a few (2 layers) first. After that, you can start to paint the color of your choice. You will see the different. |

QUOTE(kinson77 @ Aug 26 2008, 10:34 PM) @OCZ: All right,to make it easy. From the pictures above, you can see a swirl at the panel side.Well,if you apply some 1k to 1.2k grit,it would remove the swirl and you paint will be so smooth.Well, it was a sunday, and the sanding was very therapeutic, as my mom would put it. Kinda like washing the dishes, heheh Wouldn't 1000 / 1200 be too fine, meaning it woudln't do much to the casing? I did apply a layer of primer first, though I'm still confused as to whether primer will have color? mine came out a shocking brown!!! [attachmentid=571374] Primer is a very light color like white, silver, gray. |

QUOTE(kinson77 @ Aug 26 2008, 10:50 PM) @OCZ: You're wellcome friend.Cool, thanks for the advice. I'll definitely try that when I spray again So did I get the wrong type of primer or something? You say white, silver, grey. Mine is brown, LOL. I have one more can of spray. I asked the dude for something that will make it gloss. So he gave me "acrylic laquer, clear color". The primer I used also says acrylic laquer spray, lol!! Btw, is there any way to remove some of the blue spray that I want to "clean up" from the panel...without removing the yellow base paint? Cheers, Kinson Well, brown is not a undercoat / primer. u You only need primer / undercoat IF you plan to paint color such as (red, blue, yellow,or normal color) depends on the original color of the surface. You MUST apply primer / undercoat IF you plan to paint color like (metallic, pearl, candy, etc) Clear coat / transparent paint is not so recommended bro.If will just ruin you paint as it will not really gives a gloss effect.UNLESS you use a great cleat coat that is using a gun-spray paint. Its kind of hard for you to remove the blue paint without removing the color below it.The paint already sticks to each other. Why don't you just sand all over again and start fresh. |

QUOTE(karthyhu @ Aug 26 2008, 11:03 PM) Nice explanation. Since u r saying tat we only need primer/undercoat if paint color like (metallic, pearl, candy, etc). Does black color need (example like flat black spraying for casing interior) Thanx. All right. Before you want to paint, you need to see the default color of the surface. As for black family, its the darkest color,so it doesn't need any primer. |

QUOTE(kinson77 @ Aug 26 2008, 11:04 PM) @OCZ: No problem mate.Hehehe, thanks for your suggestions I don't think I'll remove this, as it's my first "mod" so to speak, I'll keep it for nostalgia I wonder why my can said "primer"(as pictured) though...stupid shop. Kena con? O yeah, the total cost of it all was about RM30, for the 4 cans of paint/primer, and a couple of sheets of sandpaper. Think I'm gonna call the casing "The Joker", lol, since I'm planning to put different different pictures on it, and it'll look messy (like the Joker), lol Cheers, Kinson Normally, most of the paint will state "primer".. The Joker?? Well, seems to be a good start and a great name.I will keep up with it. Spraying Guide |
