Hi Guys,

I've been wanting to spray paint a bit of my (spare) casing for quite a while now, and didn't dare too until I came across the case modding part of the Low Yat forum, which I find very friendly.

So anyways, Just thought I'd post a couple of pictures of the side panel that I painted over the weekend. Finished the logo last night, as I had to wait for the paint to dry in between. All in all, I think I did a rather good job, as I've never done this before, so I'm totally n00b, hahah.

I'm hoping for some comments, good or bad are welcome too, as I'm hoping to do this more often when I'm free. Currently I'm only doing on side, as I haven't decided what to paint on the other side yet. I don't plan to have each side to have anything in common, I'll probably just paint whatever I feel like. So I'll probably just spray paint it when I think of something.

Anyways, I don't think I wanna make this too long, I'll give more comments later (I'm at work anyways, hehe).

Actually, I couldn't think of what logo to use...initially tried to use the spiderman logo, but after I started cutting, felt too hard for me to start off with, so I went to look for something easier, and since my Crumpler pouch as lying around, I used that My mom said it was more "you/me" anyways, so it worked out well

I'm just wondering if there are easier materials to use to create a stencil. Using cardboard was ok to cut, but I think it was hard to keep it "pressed down" when painting, even though I put tape under it, hehe.

Yeah, I should try that in the future. It was at night, and I was lazy to go look for rocks in the garden. My fault I should have, cause it'd give my parents a couple of blue colored rocks in the garden, lol.

Err, yeah. Cause I get back from work around 9-10pm. Then later gotta do some work online, so in between I sneak out and spray a layer or two of paint. I left the stand fan on to blow it though...is it bad to spray at night? Aside from it drying slowly?

I hate dog hairs...they were all over my kitchen

Oooo, hehehe. N00b I should plan better in the future. Woke up at 1230pm on Sunday, and most of the hardware stores were closing liao, so I had to rush, hehe. The blue wasn't my first choice, but there weren't too many bright colors left But the time I planned, this and that, was a little later liao, some more heavy rain. Patience isn't a strong point of mine

Yah. I used 2 different grits..not sure which is which. The dude initially sold me one that said 600 at the back, but that was too fine, so another shop told me to start off with what was 130 at the back, then I finished it off with the 600. Not sure if I was supposed to sand it all off, but since it was my first try, figured I should, hehe.

Can I normally just paint over the original color/paint?

It just occured to me that I should have painted the OTHER side of my casing...then I could cut a window into this panel..owells, hindsight, hehe.

Well, it was a sunday, and the sanding was very therapeutic, as my mom would put it. Kinda like washing the dishes, heheh

Wouldn't 1000 / 1200 be too fine, meaning it woudln't do much to the casing?

I did apply a layer of primer first, though I'm still confused as to whether primer will have color? mine came out a shocking brown!!!

So did I get the wrong type of primer or something? You say white, silver, grey. Mine is brown, LOL.

I have one more can of spray. I asked the dude for something that will make it gloss. So he gave me "acrylic laquer, clear color". The primer I used also says acrylic laquer spray, lol!!

Btw, is there any way to remove some of the blue spray that I want to "clean up" from the panel...without removing the yellow base paint?

Hehehe, thanks for your suggestions I'm getting more and more ideas for my next try and I'm checking out your giant case mod, hehehe.

I don't think I'll remove this, as it's my first "mod" so to speak, I'll keep it for nostalgia I still got the other side to play with anyways.

I wonder why my can said "primer"(as pictured) though...stupid shop. Kena con?

O yeah, the total cost of it all was about RM30, for the 4 cans of paint/primer, and a couple of sheets of sandpaper.

Think I'm gonna call the casing "The Joker", lol, since I'm planning to put different different pictures on it, and it'll look messy (like the Joker), lol
