i've been looking for an average upconversion to HDMI player also.
and to be frank, and its very true, recently a retail assistant told me...
if you are going to invest or already have a HD-DTS, True-HD..which perform analogue (component,s-video) signals upconvert to1080p HDMI receivers
you can just use back your old DVD players that has component (1st choice) or s-Video (2nd choice) and just let the receiver do the conversion to HDMI for you.
and if you dont have one yet and can on a higher budget
then get your hands on a BD player say... maybe sony 350 which is retailing for RM1499 as the Video/sound quality of BD player playing DVD is much better than an average RM400 DVD say sony 708,728, pioneer 410 or philips 3996 etc.
test it out unless you intend to get one DVD in the region of around RM700 ...the likes of Denon, marantz, maybe.......maybe the BD players might loose out only but not marginally.... then again.... read on...if you can catch what i trying to say
so the what say you all.....depends on individual preference........ save the few hundreds now....get a future full proof BD Player that accepts BD live, HD-DTS/True-HD 7.1 decoding (not LCPM) and prepare your self to the revolution of sight & sound for the future.
to support my statement blueray disk price coming down, at RM45... quality is even better that original DVD's ( so do you need RM700 DVD players)

give it few months more and everyone will be smiling with their BD player investment.
so take your pick HDMI DVD player or BD player............????????????
