guys, i'm thinking of getting one, but duno bout price, dont think to spend on Epiphone and later regret and then get another agian, thought of one shot get the REAL deal. is it good? i like Les Paul shape guitar instead of super strat guitar.

Actually I checked from guitar collestion website, LTD EC400 cost more than RM4K. its not even MIJ guitar. freakin expensive. any one here has any idea about Gibson guitar price in malaysia?? The cheapest among US Gibson Les Paul series is Les Paul Studio which from US website cost around USD1649. SG cheaper though(I suppose).

anyone? ideas is it worth the price??

thanks.

if u want a LP, get a LP.
dont bother with the ESP or LTD ones, cos they dont feel anything like one even tho they look it.

as for gibson LP studio, 2nd hand prices here is around RM3k.

brand new costs around 1000 USD. That's the official retail price now.

Tonality wise, The LP studio is freaking awesome + EMGs.

@freakfingers12.
I tried a few burny + greco + some MIJ LPs, I just don't get the 'fat and sustain' feel of an LP. Worst thing, the Burny I tried don't stay in tune haha.

Just because it's a "Gibson", doesn't mean it will play like the Les Paul you know. For me personally, I would pick an Epiphone Les Paul Custom compared to a Gibson Les Paul Studio.

If you want it for "brand" sake, then ok..... it's the cheapest. But if you want quality, you might be surprised by the Korean made Epi Customs. Heck, even the Burny or Greco also plays more like a Les Paul then the LP Studio.

I'm not saying the Studio is a BAD guitar....... but for that price, I could get something MUCH better.

BTW..... my modified LP ZW blows away alot of the so called "Gibsons" I tried in the US..... tongue.gif

the problem with Gibson MIA is their QC. Vary like crazy. I personally have tried a few lousy original (or maybe they are high quality fakes) Gibson LPs and SGs and acoustics.

But comparing an Epi LP Custom with a Gibson LP Studio, I'd take the studio if it's good. The studio's just as fine as a standard minus the binding, pickguard plus cosmetics.

and I got a very bad experience with Epis. They don't freaking stay in tune. Worst nightmare...or maybe I'm fussy.

So conclusion: go and test all Epis, all Gibsons, all ESPs, whatever then only buy. If you regret, prepare to lose money and go to the garage sale section here biggrin.gif

yup yup, sometimes its really confusing, is it really matters for MIA?? for example Acoustic guitar, u can get a Handcrafted Yamaha acoutsic for the price almost the same with JUST lower end Martin X series, or Taylors Big baby, cants even match their Taylors 100 or 200 series price.

as for our local guitar dealrs. shop, u either put deposit they get for u, OR go there show the amount of money to test guitar, epcially for GIBSON class guitar. DONT touch if no money. reallllyyyy sad. rclxms.gif

thanks.

Yeah they do.
It's funny..... Their LP Standard Plus costs a hundred bucks more then the LP Custom...... probably has to do with the Flame maple top VS the Maple top.

Costs around the same price as the Gibson LP Studio.......

And pay triple then what they're worth? Unless you're talking about the SE...... which comes back to the Epiphone debate again.

yupyup, last time been to mahogany ss2 when studying there, MIA CE model cost around RM9K, and those with 'bird' inlays cost more than RM13K. wondering how much diff getting guitars from Spore than here, mean with trip cost, etc..

Saw swee lee promotions, Gibson BFG Les Paul cost S$1799, really tempting for it. rclxms.gif

The BFG is a lean, mean, metal machine.
It is not tame and probably won't get classic Les Paul tones, but for metal or edgier music? Perfect.

Looks like a good deal. The Valve Jr. is so cheap smile.gif

If you make a trip to Bangkok, plenty of Gibsons at Central World plaza. Prices aren't too bad.

BFG not worth it. Gibson is too cheap to even put simple dot inlays.
You can get many other better axes for way less.

You wanna know how cheap Gibson can get, go check out their melody maker.

Pathetic piece of junk, that doesn't even comes with intonation adjustable saddles or action that are adjustable.
Better off buying a cheap copy and you even get full set of inlays and tun-o-matic bridge.

Wow, you really hate Gibson that much? You're probably a Fender fanboy.

Have you ever played a Gibson? I haven't and I think it probably pwns Fender and other brands.

btw, how can 3000$ be cheap to you? Their Melody Maker is just an entry-level Gibson at a low price. It's not a super-duper guitar btw.

Yup, I played a Fender. Maybe it's just not my type. That's why I think it sucks. I think the body and neck are too thin for my liking.

so a proton is better than evo?

there are little things missing in the cheaper one that u dont notice until u actually play a better made guitar.
its these little things that contribute to the bigger price tag.

There are differences. I wanted to get an Epi initially.
Tried both Epi LP Standard and Gibson LP Standard Faded side by side at the store. Epi seems ok until I tried the real deal. Was blown away by the clarity and tone. But that was the last I saw of it, it was gone in less than a week.

Reason why Gibson > Epiphone

-Better wood, electronics, hardware
-Better tuning machines to stay in tune
-Craftmanship. Looking at the finish a beginner know's what cheap already
-MIA VS MIC

but tone wise, it's very subjective. I've tried a few studios and some fadeds LPs against the higher end Epis like gold top and ebony one, I'll buy a Gibson instead. To remind you, it's subjective and that just came best to my ears.

TS, if you play metal, and if you were me, I'll pickup a Gibson LP studio, tell the 490RT and 498 pickups to FO, install EMG 81 onto them. Totally brutal, seriously.

wat bigger gap? ratio is almost same.
evo to proton price is about 6:1, rm50k to rm300k.
gibson to epi price ratio is slightly lower about 5:1, rm2k to rm10k.

so i think its a fair comparison.
of cos the guitars arent subjected to 300% tax or whatever, so the comparison is quite crap if compared to overseas prices.
if overseas, the proton will die cos can get ford mustangs for usd20k.

so yea, ur right, dont compare cos it will make the proton look real real real bad compared to international cars at the same price.

blademaster explained abit.
but for guitars, the best way to try is the clean sound, or my fav way is unplugged.
then u can see wats missing.

cos with distortion, almost everything can sound the same tongue.gif
