Just bought my NDSL 1 week ago and enjoying playing it, but there's one problem: battery life won't last long.

I'm using EDGE flash card, lowest light and with75% of volume but the battery life is only like around 5 hours. The game i was playing is Jump Ultimate Stars which i believe it won't cost more battery usage than those 3D games.

Is this battery life normal? cause from the manual, it said that with lowest light + sound = around 15hours for original games.

Where do you bought it??

I bought it from a gameshop in sarawak. Cobalt Black color version but the flash card order from lowyat.

did u charge the battery until the orange light is off?

I did charge until the orange light off... but then the remaining life after the charging is around 5hours only in lowest light + 75% sound.

Perhaps the game shop owner wasn't honest and replaced your new battery with something inferior?

How to check the battery is original or fake? I don't think he will change it because he's kinda poor in NDSL even for PSP, he don't know how to differentiate the fake and original battery.

And the seal of battery is still in good condition.

Btw, can anyone please share your battery life and the flash card you using ? So that i can compare.

Ah. A fellow Mirian. Maybe can try charge it overnight and see how long it last? Mine lasts a few days under full charge.

U mean you even playing using flash card? What flash card are you using?

I have a flashcart. But hardly use. Ori gaming more. Using an R4. Flash carts dont suck the battery out much. It works the same like an ori game.

If it's not a new battery, it might be from a used unit or it is just plain defective. The battery isn't meant to be taken out regularly so the seal doesn't matter.

Come to think of it, I had never measured the battery life of my NDSL before. I just keep playing it till the LED flashes red, then I'll hook it up to the charger and continue playing All I can say, mine can last more than five hours on the third brightness setting, max volume and with an R4.

But i heard that using flash card will use up a bit more power than ori game.
Thus, i don't use any rumble pack or slot 2. It is cover with the cover given.

It does consume a little more power than a game cart, but it shouldn't substantially affect battery life. Check the review here for a rough idea.

But yesterday I using standby mode around 3.15p.m and the game playing was FF12 Relevant wings. By that time, the LED still green. Then when i get home at 6.45p.m. , the LED is flashing red already, but i had played the NDSL like 4 hours already.

Not that much lar. Flashcart just uses about 10 minutes of the max battery life. Or less.

My solution to this problem will be to bring it back to the shop where you bought it, and enquire with them for a replacement. Or at least, get another battery from them to test if it's really the console or the battery.

Question about NDSL battery life, from this link, it mention tat using flash card will shorten 15% of battery life compare to original card.

Nevertheless, your battery life is still way out of the margin. What you should be getting is about 11 hours of battery life according to your settings, even with the 15% extra drain you still should be getting at least more than five.

Sigh, the tauke of the shop knows nothing about NDSL. Plus, he doesnt sell any battery and from nintendo homepage, it seems that i cant order battery from them, Malaysia isn't listed there.

Then it's time to pull for your consumer rights and get a new unit from them. You wouldn't be going back to them if you were happy with your purchase, right?

Standby mode, also known as sleep mode, eats very little battery charge. I accidentally left my DS on standby mode overnight after a few hours of gaming, and it was showed green on the LED the next day.

That overnight time, you are using R4 or Original game ?

Yeah, this purchase was unhappy for me. The first time he gave me was N5 and it is real battery eater. With the setting same as me using now, last for only 3.5 hours. Nice that I had returned the N5 back to them and order EDGE from the forums.

But even want replacement, I also hard to give up this since the whole thing is so perfect, no dead pixel, no cracked hinge, the touch screen is so shiny and no scratch. > <

I get the dreaded red LED after approxmiately more than 5 hours of playing with the setting on my previous posts.

I will try again later after the battery charged. I had charged about 3 times since I purchased exactly 1 week.

But this console of mine is real new > < I cant give up on it T_T

Except it is yellow tinted for the touch screen

Yeah. Standby does eat up your battery. It is running after all, just in standby mode. If you wanna get a new battery, i think the shop in parkson has it.

Which shop in the parkson? I think now have 3 shops selling game console right now.

The bottom one. The one sell DVDs also. They sell the battery last time. Not sure now.

Oh, that one selling NDSL and PSP original games one ? Seldom goes into it because the girl sellers is quite annoying. Not one, but all...

I had played my NDSL for 6 hours after the fully charged and the LED is still green color. Now kinda tired

I noticed mine has very short playing hours too

Lowest Brightness setting + No or Mid volume setting + EDGE flashcart = 7 hours MAX only

I just bought my NDSL two weeks ago

Ok, here's my result after one day testing.

Brightness: 0
Volume: 50%
Flash Card: EDGE with 1GB, version 1.37
Total time played: 8.5~9.0 hours

Here's the games that I had tested and sorted accordingly with the time played:

2.0 hours - Nintendog: Dalmation & Friends
1.5 hours - Jump Ultimate Stars
0.5 hours - Super Robot Taisen W ( just downloaded and tried)
2.0 hours - Jump Ultimate Stars
2.0 hours - Jump Ultimate Stars

After playing till this point, the LED start becoming red and I continue playing it with the games below:

Mario hoops 3 on 3 - when playing this game, the LED change back to green/yellow for 15 minutes, weird
Cooking Mama 2
Mario Kart DS - The game just played about 10 minutes and woops.... Battery runs out and the DS shut down.

Took me about 0.75~1 hour to fully depreciate the battery life starting from Red LED.

I'm wondering is this normal for all DS users ? And does 3D game really eat more power than those 2D ? example, Nintendog and Jump Ultimate Stars.

That's the result that I had tried. Hopes help.

i'm used R4, now using M3 real, battery life on lowest brightness is about 16 hours or a bit lesser as stated in the manual. maybe edge cards suck up more power?

oh yeah, it's not whether 2D or 3D games use more power but touch screen base games uses up more power compared to just buttons games like mario kart. you try and play something that uses touch screen then when the light flashes red, change to something that doesn't need touch screen, it'll be green again.

Oh... My battery life boleh tahan lahh... Lets say I leave my NDS overnight to charge, (usually 12 am or 1 am ) then the next morning when I wake up at around 5.30 can switch off d.

I'm using R4 most of the time, second lowest brightness setting and medium volume. Usually can last 3 days on regular gaming session. Normal? How's that compared to you guys?

how to change the nds battery? mine died long time ago and always have to use the adapter to play now which defeat the purpose of portable gaming stupid nintendo should just use friendly batteries like AA so no need to search every time battery die

I thought it was pretty easy? Screwdriver + spare batt. Can be bought at most gaming shops I think.

AA batt are not environment friendly..n they're expensive in the long run...and they don't last long...
it will be damn frustrating if u don't have any left when u used up the last batt...
