What is the best buy now for quadie =) need sifu advise. I do some overclocking actually. Hope to hit 3.6ghz on quadie if can but I don't want to take all the big hassle like buying super big heatsink this that. Just stock on air.

Q6600/Q9550 is the best price respectively for their price range, and 3.6ghz on Q6600 definitely need a big heatsink smile.gif
All other processor not so easy to reach 3.6ghz laugh.gif
So your best option is Q9550 + HSF of some sort biggrin.gif

Looking at your core temp image it seems that you enable your eist n cie, wonder at full load what is your temp. Mine at 3.5g full load 64-60-62-53, dont know why the last temp showing so much different.

means that your voltage is not high enough smile.gif try 1.3V which is the voltage that most ppl will start with, at that clock frequency.

guys, do you think it's possible to overclock a Q9650 to 4 GHz with a low-end PSU like CM Extreme Power Plus 500W?
*
why not... provided you didnt install some graphic cards that require huge amount of power when stressing like gtx295, 4870x2, gtx280 n so on... i managed to oc my proc 4.3ghz with just a normal raidmax 500w psu as well biggrin.gif

To be the safe side, get a better PSU.

Guys,

I am using a QX9650 OC to 3.8GHz with FSB 1:1 ratio (400 x 9.5).

Tested with Prime95 and pass about 6 hour stress test.

Was working fine for few months until I recently installed an ATI 4870. After a week or so, it keeps BSOD. Files that I download are corrupted. Tested with Prime95 again and 2 logical CPU's failed. Then I set the MOBO bios to optimized default setting with default 3GHz clock (333 x 9) and things are better now.

What could be the problem? It looks like after I installed the GC, the CPU like not enough power like that but I don dare to up the VID anymore. Temps are normal and no overheating on CPU or GC.

My Specs:-
Intel QX9650
Biostar TPower I45
Crucial Ballistix 1gb x 4
ATI 4870
1 x WD Raptor 74gb
1 x WD 640gb
1 x Samsung DVD-Writer
Thermaltake 750w Modular PSU
Some 12cm fans and 1 pair of CCFL
