I wonder what will happen if you put your hand inside a tank full of MALE Syrian... brows.gif
*
Tried before as the males will come closer to smell and lick the hand where the smell is the strongest.

Licking will actually arouse the female to stop and raise her tail for the male to mate with her. Females will also stop and raise her tail when you lightly touch her sides when she is on heat laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

This is also a good oportunity to take good pics as the female has froze in place. And she will freeze for a long time tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif

As for tomato....

NO!

Tomato is also another fruit poisonous to most animals except humans and some others. Like chocolate, garlic, onion.

Arn't we humans lucky? XD

Added on August 24, 2008, 5:14 pmBy the way,.I discovered something alarming. I bought this hamster sand for the ham to bathe a long time ago in Pet Safari...

It's kinda dull light brown and said for hamster. It's nto dusty, so it's fine.

then I noticed that when it touched water it kinda clumped up into packs of sand that you can break apart.

I didn't suspect anything wrong until I remembered about cat clumping sand from the cat topic.

and I went "ZOMG What if they cheat me and sell me cat litter instead???"

How is REAL hamster bath sand supposed to be like?

smile.gif Toilet sand is for hamsters to pee ad poo in. It's rougher and slightly bigger than bathing sand.

Bathing sand is for hamsters to roll in and clean their fur. It's very fine and might even smell nice since it has various flavors.

Hehe, my robos will juz simply poo or pee on any sand they encounter. smile.gif Then they will still bath on the same sand until they think the sand is really dirty to bath with.

MY NEW FEMALE ROBO STAT: Calming down at the corner of the tank.
MY OLD ROBOS: Sleeping on the other side of the splitter... so far.

Meaning you need to put both kind of sand in the cage/tank? Or just the toilet sand, and the bathing sand put in once few days to let them roll tongue.gif

LOL your robos pee on the bath sand, and bath with it, then will they have pee smell on their body?

You will need to toilet sand in the tanks most of the time than the sand bath.

Some hamster don't sand bath. Syrians won't roll in the sand bath but will pee and poo in it. Robos will roll in the sand bath also pee and poo. Not sure about WW and RC though as I never had them for pets before.

So it's better to give them sand bath once in a while. No need to put both in the tank.

My robos poo in the toilet sand and bath in the bathing sand. Fat Fat seems to have found the difference and everyone follows her. hmm.gif

Anyway, for syrians you only need toilet sand. for dwarves must have both lo. It's recommended that you leave the bathing sand for them whenever you change their shavings and take it out after half an hour or less.

wub.gif But my robos loved bathing sand so much I had to leave it in. They will all mogok and jump into bathing sand bowl when I try to remove it from the tank.

Yes the female will freeze in position with her tail up waiting for the male to mate. If the male is a noobie to mating then it will take some time for him to learn. Very funny when we heard from Nezu when she mate her Brownie with a younger male. He didn't know what to do for a few hours laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

for russian campbell & winter white, some of them will bathe in the bath sand while some wont.. i notice that if the mother loves to sand bath, most of the babies will follow suit.. but for others, it's very hard for me to train them.. but it should be ok, since their fur wont be as oily as robos..

anyone trained their hamster to sand bath before?

I know my WW poops and pees practically anywhere because I can't find any specific spot. Anywhere she stays eventually will have poop. Can poop while walking also. The majority of the poop are in places where she sleeps, basically the wheel and the house doh.gif

Most of the time she just rolls in the sand, but I took it out just to confirm wether or not it IS the right sand in the first place and not some cat litter.
