So much happen since I last posted. Anyway, too many post to go through since gonna be new thread soon. Guys, try to limit chit chatting with one liners or few words. Let's be a productive thread.

Saw someone posted almonds as treats to hamsters.... a warning here.

Sometimes out of a packet of almonds, one or 2 could be a bitter almond. This contains cyanic acid, and can be deadly to a small animal. So to be safe, feed other type of nuts like brazil nuts, hazel nuts, cashews are very good.

Jeabjean, can I ask what kind of hamster food you usually feed your hamster? They look unusually "chubby".

hmm.gif Just my personal opinion but they both seem to have stomach problems which most probably come from the food they eat.

And treat is treat, don't feed too often. sweat.gif My syrians only get a single treat once every 2 weeks the most. It's a lil cruel but treats are actually not necessary to have a healthy hamster (in my opinion). Also, brocolli causes gas build up in the colon. Not good to feed a lot.

My hamsters have only ever eaten brocolli once in the time they've been wit me, and only very little of it.

Nutriedge is fine.

Do not blindly buy dogfood. Read the ingredients 1st. You have to make sure there is no garlic in it. Garlic is deadly to small animals since their bodies are small. It can cause blood problems which can lead to death.

Added on September 3, 2008, 9:09 pmThere is a company repacking cheap cheap dogfood and labeling it as hamster food. Please beware.

They are also repacking generic honey stars, coco crunch and milo ball cereal into hamster treats.

A key thing to remember, never feed your hamsters cheap food that you can find it some petshops. They may be cheap but then deadly to your pet.

I actually searched how we mail ice cream, and in the states they actually pack the ice cream with dry ice, and send it overnight with Fedex kind... they accept it! And they say it still nice to eat tongue.gif But I don't think our Pos Malaysia will deal with this kind of thing haha..

Haycakes is good for their teeth. The chewing trims their teeth and hay is high in fiber, calcium and a lil protein.

@ Jeanjean

Most likely your hamsters have a viral infection caught from the petshop. they kill very quick and most vets don't know how to treat small animals.

Try Dr Jenny, if they're still alive...she's on the vet list.
