DOTA already exists in 2003... at that time, its not called dota all-stars but something else and not many ppl play that game too until all-stars was released.

WOW was released in 2004... get the fact right before calling others stupid...

WOW is the story that continued from warcraft III (or well, supposed to).

If you are wondering, Arthus is a Paladin, who converted to Death Knight in the story line.
All the hero you see in the DOTA, are changed from the original hero of normal game play.
DOTA used the hero model of WARCRAFT III.

I know there are some game store that sells Warcraft III pirated CD with the name of DOTA. In fact, they are selling warcraft III, just add in the DOTA map for you to play.

If you ever get a original copy, there is NO DOTA MAP in it.
If you still don't get the idea, go to Google, type in "Warcraft III Map", and you will see lots of those... which DOTA is ONE OF THOSE...

By the way... WOW is an MMORPG... I never seen any MMORPG go into external competition (i.e. WCG).

The most they have are the internal events organized by the game company...

dota only borrows models from warcraft 3. abaddon is arthas in warcraft 3. the makers of dota took arthas' model and remade it into abaddon.

WoW picks up from events after WC3:TFT. in the final part of the TFT campaign, arthas (who was a death knight, yes you can train them in the melee games) broke open the icecrown with frostmourne and put on nerzhul's (aka lich king) helm. in WC3 TFT, the lich king is trapped inside the block of ice in pieces of armor. you can see this block of ice (icecrown) in dota as well.

when arthas wore nerzhul's helm, he merged with the lich king. so that's why he is the lich king now. the lich in dota and in WC3 isnt related to the lich king except for Kel'Thuzad in WC3ROC and TFT's campaign.

so where was WoW based? answer is WC3, not dota. dota is just a bunch of random characters adopted from models/sounds from the original WC3 game. abaddon is an example.
