I'd like to get one too, they're usually cheap and easy to get, but they require drilling, and that's one thing I don't wanna do (or someone would not let me do) to my door frames

I went to a metal shop, found a cold pressed 35MM diameter metal bar. Extremely strong, about 5 feet in length. Got it welded straight away, quick 5 minute job and brought it back. Drilled four holes in the wall, screwed the nut in and filled it up with a particular epoxy and covered the holes.
So far I've used it for; -back levers -muscle up -kipping pull-ups (to the region of 20 reps) -weighted pull-ups (with 35KGs) -ring dips (with an ring attachment) Total cost, RM35. Metal shops, FTW. |

I bought mine at Fitness Concept Alamanda about 2 weeks ago. It's a little bit better than the one Metalfreak showed I think, & it was RM69.90. I tried fixing it in the doorway but it wouldn't stick, so now I fix it between my walls. I stripped the screw inside the bars, so I couldn't really tighten it THAT tight. But it would still hold up strong enuff to hold my 90kg body. It also came with a set of brackets if U want to fix it permanently. I'll try to snap a photo of it soon, once I get my phone back...

Quite simple. Practice. Let go one finger, and then with time, let go the whole two hands....gradually lah. Just hang there. But for me, I managed to do it without practicing. I just..I could just do it. |

try find it at any tesco you could see.. not all tesco have.. i bought it around rm20. that a few years ago. still hanging at my door..
no matter what price it is.. are we functional enough to utilize it? maybe buying from tesco sound like cheap place, but i found out their exercise gear like medicine ball, resistance cable and etc from some brand company do have good quality compare to fitness concept. at the end, it just personal preference.. i dont want waste money to buy something that i rarely use. money per muscle... how many money have u spend just to get 100gram of muscle? |

I did suggest the metal shop.
Most of the time, people never even take the initiative to find a metal shop. Just get the dimensions of where you want to place the bar, give them the thickness you'd like and ask them to do it. It's a 10 minute job. I did mine for RM30 and the thing's solid enough to hold maybe a dammed car. Oh make sure you ask them to paint it. Epoxy paint I think the last guy used. |

You know, during my days in the wilderness without a squat rack, I called up one of our corporate purchasers to ask him to recommend me a metalworking shop. I went there, showed the boss a technical drawing of a squat rack I printed from a BB book, and discussed details with him. He said he'll get back to me with a quotation. Never heard from him, so I went again, talked to his wife about my waiting for a quotation. I never heard from those guys ever.

Regarding chin ups, how many can you guys actually do?
I was reading a health/bodybuilding mag the other day and one of the recommended 'basic' exercises required the person to do 20 chin ups. I was like i can't even do 4... I'm not a gym guy, everything done at home or at the public park and i once saw a really well toned guy doing 7 and he also cannot tahan already. Is 20 really normal? |

The workmanship is as good as my 90 year old grandma on metalworks. And it's not steel, it's iron/besi. It rusts quite easily. It's rubbish. QUOTE(Kelv @ Oct 12 2009, 11:14 AM) Yup ! Thats the 1. Boleh tahan la stainless steel. Its thicker than another bar i bought made in UK. QUOTE(gohkokho @ Oct 12 2009, 11:17 AM) What about the installation? Is it easy and can be done myself or need someone with power tools? Also can hold how much weight? I am like 70+ kg. Scare it break and I fell down on my back. Need to drill hole on door frame, 3 holes each side, screw the plates. Then insert the bar. My bro tied a swing to it & his child swing like monkey. I used it for 1yr no rust.Make sure its level or u might have problem inserting the bar into side plates. |

I am <70kg, so shouldn't be a problem.
I like the idea which doesn't need to screw, means it can be portable! After searching from internet, I guess this should be how it looks like. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhgqVyB7lxY This post has been edited by Kelv: Oct 14 2009, 07:44 PM |

I got mine without grip for about 40bucks. Kettler brand. Seriously regretted it...without grip I guarantee your palm will be bruised in days. I had to get a badminton grip and manually make my own grip =.= Even I use glove my palm still hurt.
Go for Fitness Concept's bar. Well worth it |

mine has 2 cushiony grips but the prob is that since it extends from 1 side, the two grips aren't positioned at the centre so my elbow might kena. My only prob with no grip is the way the flesh of your hands press and fold against the bar so it hurts a little afterwards.

I bought the chin up bar which brand is AIBI GYN same as the iron gym's chin up bar at 1 Utama yesterday. However, I faced a problem that my door frame is not depth enough to hold the plastic stop rail (upper part of the chin up bar) but the cross bar is fine.
I am thinking wanna put something on my upper door frame to hold the plastic stop rail. Any idea? |

I can't see the problem, but if its callouses, every bodybuilder has them. Especially if you don't wear gloves.

i wouldn't be scared if i were you. i didn't screw mine to the doorframe, just twisted it till i was satisfied. i tried budging it by pushing up as hard as i could and wearing 15kg weights on my body and pulling it down but it didn't budge. Had a slight backache the next day though
EDIT: You can get it pretty much anywhere as most chinup bars come with screws. I just decided not to use mine. If you live in KL you can find it at MV for under 70 bucks. I'm pretty sure parkson's and all will have it too. This post has been edited by pllx: Nov 28 2009, 10:20 PM |

you don't have to screw it in as it's strong enough unless you're massive. Like maybe 150kg? And you can get one with rubber edges so it won't leave marks on you doorframe.

Thanks for the reply pllx, I think I'll go for the one Nokotta bought... looks quite promising. Besides, it says max weight 150kg, so me being 60kgs should be alright.

Today went down to AIBI at Midvalley.. got myself my bar
The quality feels very solid. However, have to make sure u lock it properly. The price tag shows RM79. The sales dude offered me RM75. But I told him straight that someone bought it for RM70 and yeah in the end I got it at the price I wanted. Lesson learnt is, must negotiate! But my old house door frame is small and potentially spoil if I use that. Anyway, chin up bar is such a good equipment for me to do various exercise. |

just came back from the fitness concept
the 5 in 1 chin up bar which costs rm79.90 (if i remember correctly) looks exactly like the pic shown above by rexoxo. unfortunately since my door frame is not thick enough to support this, i had to pick the normal chin up bar which costs rm59.90. and mind u, it depends on the type of door frame u have, my door frame is painted and is slippery, therefore installing it without the supports (i.e. depending only on friction) would b suicidal. |

I dunno how much Aibi is selling it, but I went to compare at Midvalley, the shops were side by side. & from the packaging it looked exactly the same. Must've come from the same manufacturer. I hope the salesperson would advise on the correct or suitable type of door frame to mount those on...the 5 in 1 chin up bar which costs rm79.90 (if i remember correctly) looks exactly like the pic shown above by rexoxo. unfortunately since my door frame is not thick enough to support this, i had to pick the normal chin up bar which costs rm59.90. and mind u, it depends on the type of door frame u have, my door frame is painted and is slippery, therefore installing it without the supports (i.e. depending only on friction) would b suicidal. |

Well guys to quench the doubts you have, the one in Fitness Concept & Aibi looks the same. Price around there also. I got mine at Rm 78. Apparently discounted from previous Rm 99. Haha its up to you to believe or not but I was lazy to probe. So got mine from Fitness Concept. Supports up to 250lbs which is good.
Btw you need door frame to use this... If you doorway is flat it wont hook... so you really need the door frame. I believe old design doors are like that. Also these 5 in 1 Gym bar is not the same as the P90x Gym bar (Refer to rexoxo pictar) Btw I think P90x gym bar from Beachbody is nearly 60-70 USD. Haha so unless you want to spend that kind of money I would say this is good enough This is the one sold in Fitness Concept (Its fully black). Dont worry its sturdy This post has been edited by Neocable: Dec 25 2009, 02:26 PM |

Well tenno,
There is a small hook that is included but I dont think u need it... Cause the back part of the bar hooks to the Door Frame that is away from you... and the front is pushed up against the front Door Frame. That way it counters the balance and hence forth is strong enough and safe to do your workout unless your frame is all eaten up by termites! Haha |

Pros and Cons of these new designs... the old gym bar was less problematic but less ways to use it |

I have a pair of those Olympic rings, cost me bout RM 150.
If you can't do at least 10 bodyweight dips, don't bother trying to use them. I also built my own pseudo-rings aka blast straps, with 1/4 inch chains and d-handles, great substitute for the rings at half the price. I will take a picture when I m free This post has been edited by ken86: Dec 28 2009, 10:49 PM |

QUOTE(jamis @ Jan 20 2010, 04:18 PM) Thought of that, since I actually use those bunting upright holders for my impromptu pull - up sessions at work lolz. But the straight bar in the middle doesn't allow me to do a proper pull - up lah, even chin - ups is actually a hassle! Now I hafta do a nice measurement then. There are plenty of metal shops around Jln Sg Besi area! Or maybe I'll just drop by a old - skool hardware store! Sheeesh, in this case better save up for a proper squat / power rack lolz. |

you can see from the pic in my post at the top of the page. also you can see pics from other angles of the bar from other posts in the beginning of the thread.
the only thing you need to take note is that your door frame has to be protruding at least ~1cm for the bar to be able to hang on. either that or you can nail in some strong plywood with steel nails and it should be fine |

the wall is holding up fine as it's been 4 years now. regular checks at the anchor bolts show no signs of cracking too.
regret designing the bar with not enough depth as my initial fear is in the moment created when the bar is in use which may cause the mounting points on the wall to fail. |

Min 20 chin ups is based on the US Fire Department recommendation as basic requirement for their staff. Navy chin up standards are about 15. yes, and most normal people can't even do one.I was reading a health/bodybuilding mag the other day and one of the recommended 'basic' exercises required the person to do 20 chin ups. I was like i can't even do 4... I'm not a gym guy, everything done at home or at the public park and i once saw a really well toned guy doing 7 and he also cannot tahan already. Is 20 really normal? Basically, once you're up at 10 in a row, a 3days*4weeks training of 50 chinups/session can get you up to 25 in a row with arms fully extended. All it takes is muscle endurance and cardio, your whole body get's gassed out when you do a lot of it. So sometimes, its not just muscle power but instead cardio. strong cardio improves your workouts greatly. Added on April 1, 2010, 3:47 pmWorst thing about malaysian fitness scene is that this is still such a new thing to a large percentage of malaysians, making it so hard to find cheap equipment. in US, you can get a chinup bar ala p90x for USD10 including shipping. sigh. malaysia has a lot of catching up to do. if not, workout also can pokai This post has been edited by lowshiminian26: Apr 1 2010, 03:47 PM |

Just got the 5in1 bar ala P90X imitation from Fitness Concept. Its smaller than expected, not possible to do wide grip pullups as the bar isn't that long unlike the P90X which has an extended bar in front of the support handles. Can't complain as it is the next best thing.
However, it does feel rather solid once it is hooked to the back of the doorframe. Assembling it was very easy too. My shoulders, upper back and biceps hurt like a b*tch now. |

Guys, I was wondering if you could be kind enough in informing me if there are pull up/chin up bars that can be drilled into the wall?
I have similar concerns as one member regarding attaching it to a door. My mom would kill me if I damaged the frame. Thanks. |

The 5in1 pull up bar does not damage the door frame at all. This is due to the design and its way of distributing the load. It basically just lies onto the top of the doorframe for mere support, most of the load is almost horizontal INTO the wall instead of ONTO the door frame if you understand what I mean. Simple drawing of red arrows representing the loads... sort of.

for me, my door frame got damaged because mine isn't the flat type like in kelvinftg's pic. mine is the angular/sharp type. so there's a rounded dent caused by the bar already but i installed it permanently at the store room doorway so i don't care

Kelvin, is your door frame made of wood? And how deep is your frame? What is the minimum needed to have the bar attached to the frame? My frame is like .5 cm protruding outwards only.

I been using the rubber grip at both end for many years...taking it up & down a few times too. Just twist and it stick there. Tried up to 80KG with no problem. Well, the door frame may crack a bit only.
No i restart my engine for training and i have reach 11 times chin-up. What about u guys? |

Mates, pull ups is my most hated training. Most pain if you try chin up after you do biceps training. 3-5 is enough for me. Need to develop my back and my biceps.

QUOTE(Kelv @ Nov 26 2009, 10:08 PM) Just to share the chin up bar I bought from Fitness Concept, RM59.90. Not really steady if without the support bracket. Adjustable 62cm ~ 100cm. Its quite stable without the support bracket but I dont really trust the bar so I put a mattress on floor so if I fall down like a nangka busuk atleast I dont hurt myself. Anyways at most I only can do 3 reps.. Aih |

Btw I just bought a new Aibi bar at Aibi midvalley, looks like this bar is much much more stable and feel solid than the one i bought in Fitness Concept midvalley. I bought the aibi bar at rm79(normal price), no discount again.. So this aibi bar is really recommended by me. Eheh. |

Dude's a beast!
The thing he did with turning over the bar won't mess up the shoulders if he is strong enough to do it. In fact, let kids have fun with a pull up bar and you'll see them do it all the time. |

Guys,
After 3 weeks ive been doing chin up n pull up but at most now only 6 reps for both. Im doing the full arm extend some people call it dead hang dunno lar how to describe.. Anyways what is the proper and practical way of doing chinup/pull up? Should i just do like half way or do dead hang way.. Some of my frens said i need to do dead hang and my chest must touch the bar while my face looking at ceiling.. Its damn hard.. But will it give better growth for my back? |

No bro, what we want isn't like that kind Is something like that in which you're able to adjust both end so that it fits at the door frame. This uses friction to keep the chin bar at place. Rm25 is a steal. I tried Giant but no luck. I'll have to find other place. |

I built a Parallel Grip Pull Bar that you can use for pullups and even for T-bar rows. It's all metal and there's no welding required.

QUOTE(izdyharz @ Jun 23 2010, 04:13 PM) Btw I just bought a new Aibi bar at Aibi midvalley, looks like this bar is much much more stable and feel solid than the one i bought in Fitness Concept midvalley. may I know the measurement for the bar end, I want to compare it with my door frame..I bought the aibi bar at rm79(normal price), no discount again.. So this aibi bar is really recommended by me. Eheh. |

QUOTE(pizzaboy @ Oct 3 2008, 11:10 AM) I went to a metal shop, found a cold pressed 35MM diameter metal bar. Extremely strong, about 5 feet in length. Got it welded straight away, quick 5 minute job and brought it back. Drilled four holes in the wall, screwed the nut in and filled it up with a particular epoxy and covered the holes. can show me the photo of it?XDSo far I've used it for; -back levers -muscle up -kipping pull-ups (to the region of 20 reps) -weighted pull-ups (with 35KGs) -ring dips (with an ring attachment) Total cost, RM35. Metal shops, FTW. considering to make one from the metal shop.. |

I also prefer those that do not require drilling, but I do feel they will easily fall off as compared to those which need to drill.

QUOTE(healthesick @ Apr 14 2013, 01:05 PM) err. u probably will have to slot cloth at the side of the frame to prevent damage. because ur weight force is acting against the side of the frame. so by adding cushion to the area will reduce the damage to the sides. |

The fitness concept fake p90x call MAXX is secondary inferior product. If you weigh more than 9OKG , you better be careful. Only 2 nuts were used as joint for the parallel bar connecting to each other. When i pull up, the bar especially the weak point in the middle wais crooked or bent due to tension. I wont recommend those heavy guy to buy this even though the weight max is 115kg.

Im thinking to buy a iron gym but it required door trim on top to hold the bar...which doesn't fit to my door
Now i'm going to think of buying the extendable pull up bar which is using the friction. May i know is it strong enough without screw it? is the rubber on side will become less friction after few times? Can I use it to wall also if i do have wall with door wide, can it hold on the wall?? thanks |

Hi all,
am thinking of getting this pull-up tower from below link. Anyone has purchased similar equipment and/or can provide some feedbacks on whether it's recommended or not? TQ http://www.lazada.com.my/chin-up-dip-tower...se-1117265.html |
