good try... lol

I think this fulfill the requirement by SPianz. The regulator is non-volatile memory. The power switch is separate smile.gif

Hello,

My Alpha 5 blade remote controlled fan (3 speed) decided to slow down on one fine day and eventually something got burnt inside and stopped working ever since. The fan is just 1.5 years old.

I've tried disassembling the fan myself and my theory suggests that the capacitor had burnt out (based on the bloated shape of the capacitor).

So what do I do next? Can I just go to Jalan Pasar and ask those guys over there to fix a new capacitor for me and test it out on the spot?

Sorry, I'm quite a noob when it comes to electronics.

Yes, normally that big black one get spoiled, even in branded fan too. The cost I believe should not be more than RM5.

i got the same problem with you for my alpha fan.... all speed same now... but still can spin ...

The bad part is common to any ceiling fan, a bad capacitor most of the time. It costs around RM5.

Yeah I did the installation. Compare to my Elmark and Alpha 4 blades fan and normal 5 speed RM90 Mistral, this new fan most slowest fan on its max speed(3).
*
Maybe it's normal. My Panasonic has 7 speeds but the mostly set at sped 1 and the most is 2 only. If use 7, it is like gusty wind that will fly your house roof laugh.gif

since i bought 5 units of pana fans , shall i just call their tech to come check?
*
Usually ceiling fan comes with balancing kit. Use the kit to balance the fan so that it will not wobble. Some newer did not come with any since it is controlled and design very strict that all blades are balanced

Anyway, you can call them to check, but will they charge for service?

Any idea how long these fans can last?
*
I think cheap or expensive one can equally last. It is that the expensive one has more feature. How long you'd expect? I would give no less than 10 years.

My Panasonics which is basically KDK is already more than 15 years.

I need some advice for buying fans in rental units. What do tenants prefer? Remote control or regulator fans? And what about normal steel fans over the abs fans? Are there any difference in preference or am I overthinking?

Thanks in advance.
*
The problem with remote type fan:
1) Battery corroded/leaked inside compartment damaging the remote
2) Speed regulator is on board inside the fan. The capacitor that control the speed will give up after 5~10 years and probably about RM60~80 to get it fix. Part is only around RM6.

Regulator type easy to access and is cheaper to just replace the whole thing laugh.gif

Looking for a fan for my laundry area, but the width is only 5ft. May I know if it's possible for me to fit a 40" fan there? Will it be too close to the wall?
*
Can use small ceiling fan like this

*

thanks, ya i saw that too, but a bit skeptical on the performance.

may i know if you have tried it before? if it's sufficient for an area of 5ft x 10ft?

thanks
*
No idea.

The main question is what is the purpose of the fan here? I think you are not going to sit there waiting for laundry, right? If you are more concern on humidity build-up that can cause mold then a ventilator fan is more appropriate. You would not fell much of air flow. It is not going to be windy in the room but you will fell fresh and breathable room. smile.gif

oh ya forgot to elaborate a bit

my laundry area is already semi open concept, 1 side of it is facing outside with 5ft wall and grills on top. so it will not be so humid there.

the purpose of the fan will be:
1) cool down the place when need to do some manual laundry, washing etc. coz that area is with polycarbonate roof so will be a bit hot during day time.
2) help to dry the cloths during rainy days

thanks
*
Then a wall fan like ceo684 suggested would be recommended. The fan can be aimed directly if required. Ceiling fan would be just blowing hot air at the roof top to you only laugh.gif

Hi just wondering if my KDK k14xz-gy is supposed to have a slight wobble after installation?

The installer said that it’s normal sweat.gif
Other KDK celling fan in my house doesn’t seem to wobble compared to this newly installed celling fan
*
Due to imperfection in balancing. Normally ceiling fan comes with balancing weight kit.
