I'm sure your son would truly appreciate the iPhone and take good care of it. My MBP was a surprise reward from my dad as well, after I managed to secure a scholarship to study overseas. No words could ever describe how much I appreciate it. It made me truly realize that money doesn't come easy, and I've since worked my own way to feed my Apple addiction.

You've worked hard for the money, and you have all the right to reward your children whichever way you see fit. I'm sure you know where the limits are, there's spoilt children and there's well brought-up children. I truly believe your family falls in the latter category, and well done for that
