Totally wrong. There is no problem at all. So no worries.

It happens to me too if I have not been drinking Yakult for some time, then I start to take it again. The stomach ache is unlike normal stomach ache, it feels more like your gut has a small cramp (like muscle cramp) for 5-10 minutes, then it goes away without any other problems.

I suspect it's the high lactic acid content and also the different strain of bacteria used by Yakult. If you take Yakult consistently, this problem will only occur the first time you drink it. Only very few people experience this effect. Yakult is one of the best cultured drink out there in the market, it's bacteria count is the highest despite it's small bottle (in fact, Malaysia's Yakult has the highest bac count amongst all Yakult in the world).

Make sure you shake the bottle well so that you minum the bac at the bottom.
---
Vitagen, Yakult, and all other cultured drink (yogurt diluted with water) contains no lactose. All loctose in milk have been fermented by the bacteria into lactic acid.

On the other hand, yogurt drink is is diluted with milk. So it still contains some amount of lactose and it is also creamier.

Lactobacillus is the genus of the bacteria. It is also part of a group of bacteria know as lactic acid bacteria which ferments carbs to produce lactic acid. It includes many species like L. caseii, L. acidophilus, L. reuteri, L. delbrueckii yadda... yadda... yadda...

And under the species L. casei, there's this particular strain developed by Yakult's founder... hence the strain Shirota.

Do a wikipedia search. The information there is easy to understand.

ALL MILK HAVE LACTOSE! It comes from the cow.

HL milk, Dutchlady, Nestle, Fernleaf, Dumex... semuanya ada lactose.
And any products that contain milk will have lactose too... like chocolates, certain biscuits, etc... [read the labels].

However, fermented or processed milk products like yogurt, cheese, butter, whey DOES NOT contain lactose simply because it has been fermented or it has been processed out.

I'm not sure how many people are really lactose intolerant, but lots of people claim to be lactose intolerant but when they eat chocolate (contains milk which contains lactose)... no problem.

For me, the first few times of taking milk will cause diarrhea and gassy stomach. But after a week or so drinking milk... the problem slowly goes away. I know my gut has the ability to slowly adapt to increased lactose intake.
Taking yogurt/cultured drink along with milk also reduces the symptomes. In fact, eating yogurt/cultured drink practically reduces the symptomes of many other gut/stomach problems. I know for sure that if you take yogurt consistently, it can prevent sakit perut if you salah makan yesterday's nasi lemak.
