b) Games companies most of time are clueless on the effect of the firmware on owners' hardware. Only Sony is fully aware of any side effect because that's their software.

d) I doubt Sony would license their firmware to be distributed by 3rd party other than their own game company: SCE.

b) Wow, what a big mouth you have there. Are you sure about what you just said or you are 'just' saying it? For the sake of your integrity, is there any slightest proof/article to support your claim?

d) Your doubt are plain wrong, it has been distributed by 3rd party companies. *Read other posters claim wink.gif

a) Any game within development and before going gold, a policy from Sony development is that all games needs to be working on a firmware from within the game's dev time and before it goes gold. Its a policy Sony holds since they launch the PSP, and continues with the PS3 although with one change: it isn't compulsory to include the firmware. Most if not all(I don't think theres any though) includes the firmware from within its development time until it being gold, or if the developers are even hard working enough will include the latest firmware released then.

Could you provide me some links regarding the bolded part? Thanks.

No links really.

There are guidelines for each and every developer creating games on the PS3, one of those states that theres no need to include a firmware onto the game. Yes, sounds real stupid I know. That means it'll force people to download a new firmware if they did not know, or the absolute clueless people will think that the game is spoilt since it won't start.

IINM, David jaffe was complaining about that in one of the many podcasts he did for numerous websites. I don't remember which though. hmm.gif

Herm, interesting, as you put it, if that is true, it is counterintuitive. Come to think of it, how does firmware update works with downloadable games from PSN?

*On David Jaffe, I'll be waiting for his new titles for PS3.

i did a search earlier today. some ppl uncompiled the lair & warhawk .pkg contents from PSN (not sure demo or full game). both of them contain their required firmware. i'll find the source in a moment.

Thanks for the links, according to wikipedia Warhawk initial download size is 798MB and according to the link Warhawk last index is 1077056, and for Lair it ends at 11931104. If the indexes are representing size/starting point of the file in Byte, then Warhawk would be 1.027GB almost similar to the installation size "Warhawk w/boosters-(Required) 1.1 GB" and Lair is 11.38GB. Sounds valid to me, but too bad the update is the last file from the list, else maybe we could verify the size of the update file. If this is true, that means, we are wasting some bandwidth to download the update files, just because Sony did not figure out a better way of doing it. :|
