Need to understand more about the audio decoding for PS3.

I have a 32'LCD, Old Denon Amp (which is only doing AC3 or dolby Digital) with No sub output.

Now the question is that If I would like to purchase the BD can I still get atleast a normal Digital Decode sound?

As I am planning to get a new amp but the one I am looking at is Yamaha 863 or Onkyo 606. The problem is that this two amp cost about 3k. Don't really want to spend this kind of money. As all my speaker is not proper for HT. Still need to save some money for speaker and cable.

I understand that Yamaha 663 also have HDMI cable in and out but it is only passing and not doing any upscale. Is it worth it to get 663 or the 863/606. Please advice

No sure whether my denon have any optical in as is a 10 year old model. Denon 8xx. What i wish to learn is that if I am just using the avi cable can the amp still do the decode? or I have to get the optical or HDMI cable in order for the amp to be able to decode?

Yes HDMI is not there but not sure about the optical will check it out tonight.

If no optical meaning does that means if I buy a BD then I can't use the PS3 to decode and use my amp to do the job?

Yupe so sad, thanks for the help. Anyway i check yesterday night my amp doesn't have any optical in. Thus, I think i have to purchase a new amp loh . Just need to know if I want to get the 8Channel LPCM does yamaha 663 able to do the job or I have to get more high end amp? Low on cash lah . Or any amp with HMDI in will do the job. Please advice.
