hi there PSB owners. am need of a little help here.
from the great reviews about PSB speakers here (and some own listening at A&L), i'll be buying a 3.1 setup consisting of Alpha B1 (front), C1 (centre) and Subzero (sub) for my little house for movies, music and Astro B.yond. the surround speakers will be added on a few months down the road, possibly adding a new Image B5 to fronts and bringing Alpha B1 to the rear.
my problem now is the A/V receiver. i've been recommended a few options; yamaha 365, pioneer 519; as a budget entry level receiver. however, reading much of online reviews i realised the yamaha 365 has a HDMI for video only. no audio. would it mean that the DVD and Astro B.yond shows have no sound?
so are there any other recommended receiver to pair with the Alpha speaker setup within a budget of 1-1.5k. some help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks...

thanks for the info masked chan.
so if i've to fork out another rm200 for 2metre of coaxial cables, would it be better if i get the 'one-step-up' model; model 465; that has HDMI audio/video and also has 4 in 1 out (compared to model 365 which has 2 in 1 out).
it'll cost rm500 more instead.

finally decided on paying rm600 more for the yamaha 465 receiver, to get the HDMI sound instead of sound from coaxial cables.
so i have now at home a 3.1 HT setup (surrounds future purchase) consisting of;
- 1 pair x Alpha B1 as Main - 1 piece x Alpha C1 as Centre - 1 piece x Subzero as Sub-woofer - 1 piece x Yamaha RX-V465 Receiver - AudioQuest cables
Overall budget went into RM4,500 (If I added another pair of B1 as surround + cabling, I'm looking at additional RM1,000 for my 5.1 setup)
Like the McDonald's tag, "i'm lovin' it"!!!

congrats anchovies93 on your purchase.
some help about a question I have;
Would an Alpha T1 (floorstanding) be a better purchase than an Image B6 (bookshelf) if its to be used as mains?
Since the Alpha T1 is the lower model range, would its larger sound staging ability eclipse the smaller sized, but higher range, Image B6. Also in terms of pricing, Alpha T1 would be cheaper than an Image B6. Any comments on this comparison would be great in helping me decide my next purchase. (I think T1 is about RM1400, B6 about RM1300. Not confirm)
Am planning to make my current Alpha B1 as surround speaker duty. Now its on as main speaker.

QUOTE(C.T. Seong @ Feb 16 2010, 05:05 PM) Added on February 16, 2010, 5:19 pmWell, my suggestions are : 1. Send back the B1 to them and get the Image B4 as surround 2. Get a new pair of B6 for the Front channel. ctseong, i'm interested and curious about your recommended setup. so i've got a few questions; - how come Image B4 as surround setup, and not the S5? - can an Alpha B1 (as surround) and Image B6 (as front main) be matched together in a HT system? - or would an entire Alpha or entire Image be a better combination? - finally, which would do a better job; Alpha T1 or Image B6? thank you . I'm finding the PSB Subzero (or Subseries1) I got isn't up to standard. Meaning, there's no 'oomph' feel, too muddy bass, not tight in response.
For RM1450, I wasn't having high expectations like SVS type. I suppose there are more choices/brands which could perform better, with better specfications at that price.
[Brief Spec] Freq Range : 36-150Hz Amp Power : 110W (continous) - 140W (dynamic) - 280W (dynamic peak) Amp Design : Class AB Woofer Dia. : 8" Int. Design : 19.3L Net Weight : 10kg
Any sub recommendations at this price range? I've a simple setup only; Yamaha RX-V465, Alpha B1 Front, Alpha C1 Centre.

QUOTE(Lone*Wolf @ Feb 27 2010, 03:08 PM) No. Its better. If you want a Velo, avoid Impacts, aim higher. I was thinking about this point too, avoiding the 'entry level' range. In terms of tech specs, Klipsch looks like a better bet. htkaki has been giving excellent advise on Klipsch sub, I just needed some 2nd opinion. .

The Yamaha RX-V465 (low end) amp I'm running on puts out 105W/channel.
I'm putting an Image B6 (with a 20-150W output) as front mains, but this situation would be quite underpowered.
My few questions are:
- What comparable difference would a higher power amp/receiver make?
- Also, would running an additional power amp / integrated amp to the above AV receiver be possible, with a difference?
Some ideas would be great.

Am currently on Image B6 front, Alpha C5 centre and Klipsch sub, hooked up to a basic entry Yamaha RX-V465 AV receiver.
What would be a good upgrade for receiver? Was thinking of getting a used unit that was mid-high range, with HDMI.
Saw a Denon 3310 (when new was RM4k) now going for RM2k+, but output is 165W and Image B6 output only 150W. Will it be damaging?
And saw a Yamaha RX-V1800 about RM2k+ also, 130W output.
Was recommended a NAD T748, but looks underpowered.
Budget about RM2k. Would appreciate some options from friends here...

tbcheese, I didn't get the Image center speaker but instead its an Alpha centre (that time budget not enough). Actually its C1, not C5. Typo. Needed the upgrade coz I felt the RX-V465 isn't driving the Image speakers enough. Meaning not enough power. Unfortunately can't advise the sound because its my 1st unit and no prior setup experience.
wkang, was thinking about the A820 Aventage but budget about RM2k+ for used 3-4 years unit. Thus V1800 looked like a good deal. So what did you think about the difference in sound, space, depth when running from Yamaha A820 and NAD T748? Have not auditioned either but would like to hear some comments.

Thanks heaps for the comments.
Live audition should be my next option then. I understand receivers shouldn't make a huge difference, but am looking at how well money will be spent on new lower power (NAD) or used higher power (yamaha). Will consider the A820 as mentioned.
