I wonder whats the recommended percentage one should allocate from his wages to go into getting a room or a house in singapore. Since seantang mentioned that if most of ones salary goes into renting a room. How much is most? I would guess its close to 50% of ones monthly salary.

But you could always share a room with another person to cut cost. Depending on location of course.

I know ppl who want rent on the cheap so they band together and rent a house and then sublet it out to other ppl. Just imagine 3-4 ppl in one common room. I once visited a house occupied by indians and myanmar ppl who usually have around 3++ ppl in a single common room. They pay around for the whole apartment and then bring in as many ppl as they can fit for both their budget and the space available.

They usually pay around 200++ inclusive of PUB bills. And i have 2 say with that many ppl, some of the apartments are pretty clean for the amount of ppl in it and that they all are guys.

How much of ones salary should one allocate for renting a room? True i find singapores room rental for certain places as very expensive but then again ppl are doing business so nothing can be done when the markets influences it.

Would 10% of ones pay be ok to rent a room? I guess it boils down to how much are u willing to spend according to your budget.

what the hell, I am not willing to share with 3 people, I am now share, 2 people in room but I lose my privacy, after my contract has finished, I would rather contract single room, Share with another person is not good for me, maybe has some conflicts too..

You know, I have rhinitis alergica that I cannot tahan with cold but he cannot tahan with hot weather, everyday he turn on the fan and open the window, makes me cold.. I try to become calm..we have conflict here..and if one of us is sick, the another person will get disturbance particularly we have different personality, culture and nationality..

How about your PES? They required PES A or B as the entry requirement. You need to do the test after you join?

If its a room for yourself, no probs since around 400-600 for a single occupancy room. I wonder if size is a very big factor when choosing a place to stay. Unless its a utility room then that a diff matter all together.

I know a guy whose staying in a utility room and paying around 300++ inclusive PUB and its really small, just larger then a typical 3 room HDB toilet.

If your in the professional line then no prob but those who arent will have to sacrifice privacy or money for a room, depending on how much they earn or how much they willing to spend. So far i havent seen much diff in terms of room rental so far. Maybe reduce abit to about 50-100 dollars for some rooms but mostly unaffected.

A month ago i checked out a disabled guy who wanted 500 for a room which was abit dated and had no broadband. Worst still is his place has old and wasnt that clean but the creepy part was that he mentioned that the previous tenant was a china guy and that the guy liked to sleep in his room naked.

I would rather live in utility room..yup still have privacy bro although the room was small..
but utility room is only in Toa Payoh, isn't it?

and is it safe to live in HDB bro?

I use starhub

018012xxxxxx same as local charges.

Materazzi,
You are asking a very weird question, of course a mixture of male and female la.. there is no such things as Flat A for women only.... This is Singapore not some Arabic country.
*
sorry me if that's a weird question since I am always discriminated by the advertisement which states ladies only..HDB for ladies...I have difficulty to find cheap rooms since they offered them to ladies.

hey chessgal, which big 4 do you work?

True. Both Malaysia and Singapore only allow you to hold one citizenship ie. you have to give up your Malaysian citizenship. So unless you are running for Sg politics, want to become a senior civil servant or trying to avoid being extradited back to Malaysia - I don't see any need to become a Sg citizen.

does become sg citizen better than PR benefit such as subsidised HDB and hospital benefit?much more cheaper education etc. Moreover red passport so can travel anywhere without visa.cmiiw.
