QUOTE(bbmars @ Aug 25 2008, 09:19 PM)
I think, I might be wrong, but some opinions about employing Malaysian PR.  some compaines - no need NS for male employee, no need to excuse them unlike Singaporeans.  advantages as can be seen.  but again not all like that.  PR can have better bargaining terms like locals, at least, 13month bonus is must in SG law on top of bonus if any should company do well.

If you look for SG Gov job, I don't think any difference because they employ based on qualification and requirement set.  Scholarship is not an issue, only think is, should you take up any busary or so, you are requried to work for a few years.

However, PR nowadays only enjoy some form of subsidy at Gov medical clinics, not sure about hospital.  Unlike  in the past, PR enjoy better benefits than locals because there is no NS and whatever Singaproeans gain from Gov, they do.  Of course, when it comes to Gov's assistance package to help Singaporeans to get on with  living conditions, Inflation, recession, etc...  PR don't get anything.  SG Gov is giving out aids package again in Oct 08 to ease inflation and hardship, etc... only Singaporeans get it.

Attached is a full list of benefit for SPR vs SG citizen. Honestly, i think SPR have better benefit than Malaysia's non-bumi.

OK, someone told me that if me and my fren is a PR, why not just go buy a HDB together and stay for let’s say for 3 yrs (if u intend to work here for 3 yrs) then after that just sell them-off for a profit…. instead of renting a room for $500 every mth.

Can anyone give some advice on the above statement?
*
ok..sounds easy.
but, in order to buy a HDB, you have to be a couple that registered (married) officially.
Then....you have to have at least SGD50k cash on hand to pay the downpayment, COV and transaction fee. (SGD40k will be a bit tough now)
So, if you intend to work here 3 years, maybe you just save enough to pay the downpayment, unless your salary is like SGD7k above.

For those who are working in singapore,

How do you find singaporeans in general? Most malaysians have the mindset that singaporeans think very highly of themselves and look down on others.

After working in singapore, does this view still apply to you or not?

I notice that alot of ppl criticize singaporeans and singapore in general but they themselves have never actually been to singapore, just that they have the mindset from conversations with other ppl who themselves have never been to singapore.
*
after working in singapore, i feel that they emphasize more on educational background rather than experience.
You can find ppl with master degree easily in the company, but not all of them are performer. People from Malaysia can perform better, but, always being suppressed due to no qualification (i mean master degree and above).
One thing there are good in is presentation skill, which Malaysian lacking of.

*
to apply for new HDB, at least one need to be Singaporean.
To buy resale HDB, both PR can already.
New HDB = start from SGD200
Resale HDB=SGD250k above...+ COV (10k, or 20k, or 30k......depend on house condition)

I am a permanent staff with PR status. In fact I checked with other colleagues who are either SG local or PR, they are same as me and get no 13th month pay. Compulsary... so bbmars do you mean that my employer is violating the labor law in SG?  unsure.gif
*
13th months is not compulsory.

http://www.mom.gov.sg/publish/momportal/en...e_Payments.html

Annual Wage Supplement

Annual Wage Supplement (AWS) is commonly known as the 13th month payment. It is a single annual payment to employees that supplements the total amount of annual wage earned by them.

Payment of AWS depends on the contractual agreement between the employer and the employee i.e. whether it is provided for in the employment contract or collective agreement.

If it is not stipulated in the employment contract, AWS payment is subject to negotiation and mutual agreement between the employer and employee, or the trade union representing the employee.

An employer is not allowed to pay an AWS of more than three months' salary if:

* He/she agreed (either by way of an employment contract or collective agreement) to pay an AWS of up to three months' wages before the commencement of the Employment (Amendment) Act 1988 on 16 August 1988.

However, the employer can negotiate with the employee, or the trade union representing the employee, to vary the quantum.

An employer is not allowed to pay an AWS of more than one month's wage if he/she:

* Has not paid any AWS prior to 16 August 1988.

If business results are exceptionally poor for any year, an employer may negotiate with the employees, or the trade union representing the employees, to adjust the AWS downwards.

it is a service like money changer
instead changing for cash, they will transfer the money straight to your malaysia account.
So far did it few times and hassle free
normally the rate will be slightly higher than changing for cash, but they will charge a flat rate of SGD10
I know one near Tampines MRT always good rate. yesterday was 2.395

U guys prefer to save your money in Ringgit? So far i wouldn't for now since confirm the ringgit is gonna take a severe beating next year, this year oledi bad enough but once the sub prime morgage full effect starts at 2009, plus political uncertainty and a investor unfriendly policy by the current government.

Things will only look rosy at the earliest end of 2009. The only time i will change money to ringgit is when i go back to hometown, other then that i dont want my money to lose its value.
*
oh...different ppl have diff commitment/usage
maybe some need to transfer money back to give papa mama
some bought a house in malaysia.
so..constantly still need some RM monthly.
but whenever there isn't a need, i still prefer to keep SGD
