Why is the range within each rank always wider for Malaysia and narrower for Sg? For eg. Manager - the range is 3K for MY and only 2K for SG?
For Senior Manager, it's even more absurd, 6K for MY and SG still 2K?
Did you speak to recruiters from both MY and SG?
Below's the salary structure of my office in Sg (the Financial Service Center). It's an American MNC.
Senior Directors (1 person) - S$30K
Directors (0/vacant) - 25K
Senior Managers (1) - 18-20K
Managers (4) - 14-16K
Senior Analysts/Accountants/Controllers (10) - 10-13K
Analysts/Accountants/Controllers (20) - 6-9K
Junior Analysts/Accountants/Controllers (15) - 2.5-6K
Technicians/Non-Professional Staff (10) - 2-4K
Doesn't include bonuses and cash monthly car allowance (1.5-3K) for Senior Analysts & above.
I think it would be very difficult to find any company or firm in Malaysia with the same kind of salary concentration (at least 35% of all finance employees earn >10K, 50% >6K). But in Singapore, many MNCs are have similar salary structures in their accounting depts.
If I use your findings, then a full 50% of my dept/serv ctr are managers and above. That cannot be. We only have 5 managers and 1 director (<10%).
Like i did said, it's just based on my findings which might not be acccurate, but its open for disgareement.
I'm a hard core job applicants, just to keep myself update and always go for interview just to keep myself mobile, and of courzse, in the course did spoke to a lot of MY and SG H-Hunters.
The larger range in MY was due to my understanding that some M'sia employers, especially the, those without proper HR market updates, tend to overpay especially to those w/o good experiences. But in Singapore most coy have good structure, and good HR market knowledge. Further as the higher the position, its even harder to judge / value a person, that's why some tom d*** harry may get lucky (if u know wat i mean). Which is also in line with ur statement "S'pore salary are more structured"
Anyway, your input is indeed eye opener for me, as Managers getting RM14K above and SM can touch SGD20K. What are the approx. no. of experiences?

That is because both the Malaysian govt and private sectors do NOT have the slightest inclination to adequately reward white collar professionals.
In their minds, only politicans and well-connected businessmen and datuks are worthy of earning the big bucks - the rest can fend for themselves.
Little wonder that working professionals are leaving Malaysia in droves to find their fortunes elsewhere where they are much more appreciated and well rewarded.
Ur rite.
But well connected ppl indeed deserves the value, as the can make the business smoother as well as more business. That's why "well connected ppl" doesn't leave M'sia and they have been supporting the ruling govt (maybe until recently). But of course these ppl have to make sure their connection continues to make money for them, otherwise no value.
It's just like, for e.g. u may be the best technical person, but u may be the first to be fired (before say, the marketing guy), if there are no business to make use of ur skills. At least the mkting guy is still doing work "trying to bring in biz", of course not for long.
