Hi.

I just heard that Putra LRT will construct a new station in

USJ which is the last stop will be just in front of Mydin USJ.

The project now is under construction and photos below

just taken in front of SUbang Jaya SS14.

Is it just fallacy or fact from what I've heard according to

one of my friend who lives in SS14..? doh.gif

That's bcos, the proposed route for LRT will by-pass SS14. So residents at SS14 objected the idea.

Ppl want development, ppl want public transport. BUT they don't want those things being built nearby their house.

I don't think the G will carry out the project so soon. They need time to study the feasibility of this project. It also depends on the land acquisition as well.

Sounds like USJ and Subang Jaya will get the LRT stations but gotta WAIT!!

LRT for Puchong,
Subang Jaya

The Sun
22 August 2008

SYARIKAT Prasarana Negara Bhd is still carrying out a land and engineering study on the proposed extension of the light rail transit (LRT) system in the Klang Valley – to Puchong and Subang Jaya.

Replying to Tony Pua (DAP-PJ Utara), Transport Minister Datuk Ong Tee Keat said the projects would be implemented once the study is completed, adding they would be privatised.

“The Star LRT extension projectwill involve an additional 16km from Sri Petaling station to USJ/Puchong, ending in Putra Heights, involving 12 new stations,” he said. “The Putra LRT extension project will also run an additional 16km from Kelana Jaya station to Subang Jaya and end at Putra Heights too, involving 12 new stations as well.”

To Pua’s supplementary question on the setting up of a public transport commission, Ong said the matter has yet to be finalised.

Pua had asked whether the commission would be headed by the Transport Minister or its responsibilities divided between the 13 agencies related to transportation.

Yes, for KTM, there will be an extension from Sentul to Batu Caves, with 4 stations, namely Batu Village, Taman Wahyu, Batu Kentonmen and Batu Caves, in addition, the refurbished Class 83 EMU, should relieve more capacity a bit, by the introduction of new seating arrangement...

But bear in mind, rolling stock purchases for SPNB and KTM, are done by government instead of the operators, so, it is not correct to blame KTM and Rapid KL which are the operator...

KTM is actually better in terms of carrying capacity because the potential capacity is a lot higher than LRT, because most Komuter station platform length allow 6 car train....and being it is heavy rail based, unlike LRT...

The tricky part is that in the past, it seems government promoting more and more low density residential area, in that sense, planning can be tricky for any rail transit, because it needs to have sufficient commuters per station to make at least some profits, i think in the density and urban planning wise, government (and also local authorities), failed in this aspect...

Still, LRT is more and suitable for urban use, i hope the next extension of both Ampang and Kelana Jaya line to Putra Heights should be create a loop line...

Komuter is more like regional train/ suburban train...the next extension of the Komuter should cross three states which are Perak, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan (Tanjung Malim to Seremban) and after that, i doubt there will be an extension of that same route, unless there is seperate service for other routes!

Putra LRT is the best out there for me. Komuter indeed can carry a lot of passenger but the waiting time of 15 to 20 mins is not worth it. Same with STAR LRT. Putra LRT is just nice and the service is frequent.

Trains delayed - to 2013
By Pauline Almeida January 30, 2009 Categories: News

The trains Klang Valley commuters have been waiting for to alleviate their misery will be delayed — yet again.

Word from transport industry sources is that planned additional lines and stations for the light rail train (LRT) network is now projected to be ready only in 2013 — three years later than originally planned.

“While the public would be let down by this revelation, the truth is that funding is the major problem,” an industry source told Malay Mail yesterday.

It is learnt that Syarikat Prasarana Nasional Bhd (SBNB), the whollyowned government company (under Ministry of Finance Inc) set up to run key public transport companies, is facing difficulty sourcing the estimated RM5 billion for the 32km project.

The extensions to the existing Kelana Jaya-Gombak and Sri Petaling-Ampang lines were supposed to be ready by 2010, and were later delayed to 2011, the source said.

With the latest developments, the projected 700,000 daily commuters will have to wait till 2013 for the extended network to come on line.

SPNB has yet to hire the consultant engineer for the project, although it had previously indicated the appointment was set for last September when the resignation of its then chief executive officer, Shaipudin Shah Harun, was announced.

What appears to be the latest development is the firm’s submission of plans for verification by the Ministry of Transport. This is to ensure that there would be no future disruptions. Plans were also recently submitted to the Land Office, and the Natural Resources and Federal Land Department.

Sources said the public, especially residents who could be affected by the project, would be given the opportunity to express their views on the proposed extensions from Sri Petaling to Kinrara, Puchong and Putra Heights (about 10km from Putrajaya) and Subang-Putra Heights.

“This should take place between February and May,” the source said.

“To meet the 2011 target, construction should start by the middle of this year. But we are still at the approval stage and funding has not been resolved yet. It would be proper to set the new target at 2013.

“But, can the public wait another four years? They are sure to express their outrage.”

Currently, the Kelana Jaya and Sri Petaling lines ferry some 160,000 and 150,000 passengers respectively daily.

“If the network extensions are completed by 2010-2011, more than 700,000 passengers would be able to commute to work affordably and with ease. And that’s not forgetting how much this would help reduce vehicle exhaust pollution,” the source added.

LRT Top-up
The 35 LRT trains ordered from abroad are supposed to arrive between now and 2011 as part of the goal to improve the service.

This would address the inconvenience commuters now face, such as packed trains and travel delays, while also helping to reduce traffic congestion in the Klang Valley.

Currently, each train has two coaches, with each coach capable of ferrying 50 to 70 passengers. The new trains are expected to have four coaches each, thus doubling the load.

Following Malay Mail reports last August, which highlighted commuter problems, LRT operator Rapid KL has increased the frequency of trains on the Kelana Jaya line.

Komuter relief by March
KTM Bhd has announced that the arrival of 36 electric multiple units (EMUs) by March would reduce the intervals between trains to 15 minutes.

KTM Komuter trains now operate at a frequency of between 25 and 35 minutes, based on the 21 to 23 trains, and occasionally 26, available.

It originally had 62 train sets. Two are in a complete state of disrepair while the remaining 34 EMUs are widely believed to be unusable and parked at a stockyard, according to sources.

Background on LRT extension
When announcing the 2009 Budget, the government had allocated RM35 billion to improve public transportation between 2009 and 2014.

As for the extension of the light rail transit (LRT) network, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced in 2006 that the new LRT lines linking Kota Damansara and Cheras would be operational in 2010.

The LRT extension project was supposed to be part of a special RM10 billion government allocation for an efficient and cost-effective public transport system in the Klang Valley.

The new line will cover some 32km and cut across Kuala Lumpur. The Kelana Jaya line (formerly Putra LRT) will be extended to Subang Jaya and USJ, while the Sri Petaling line (formerly Star LRT) will cover Puchong.

Wow... you see the different.. first, Gomen says end of this year..
Now, when end of the year comes, they say another 1 or 2 years..
After 2 years, they'll say another 1 or 2 years, again and again..

Well, same thing happen to any project promised during the election season smile.gif

Being a blogger who wrote about LRT routes recently, I can tell you the plan to Putra Heights might be re-studied to accomodate the grouses of some residents.

However, I would love the Kelana Jaya LRT to cover Sunway, Shah Alam and Kota Kemuning areas as well, but the capacity for the infrastructure we have may not be sufficient.

The govt is trying very hard to fast-track the Kota Damansara-Cheras line but it's too difficult to decide the best way to pass through KL City. Initially, this is only due for implementation around 2014.

A very interesting proposal from SSC Malaysia ages ago:
