Could it be your sleep button malfunction?

I used to have the similiar thing, cant go in both mode, later i realise that its might be caused by my poor functioning sleep button..

This usualy happened to apps that been ssh'ed to iphone... these are about permission to those files... Bout that simport, who need simport for 2.0s firmware? head on to settings/Mail,Contacts,Calendars/ (Scrol to bottom) and you'll find "Import SIM Contacts".... Wolla!!
