I knew the ending after 20 minutes into the movie.

But kudos to Jolie. She did well this time around. Almost on par to Changeling.

Anyway, watched Salt just today.

Philip Noyce did a good job in directing this and thank God Tom Cruise made a pass on to this film. Angelina Jolie did a superb acting in this film.

Although it is true she seem to be invisible to almost everything, still it keeps it entertaining...

Back to the old Russian enemy... it has been a while since something like Cold War these stories occur... anyway...

Ending cliffhanger? A possible television series? If demand meets... I don't think a sequel for the film is there but a potential television is probably a yes...

Watch this yesterday...

A fast pace and pretty-much no-nonsense action movie. A modernize take on the age old Cold War era mythology specifically the 'Sleeper Agents'.

Overall, the elements were too predictable, every friends or foes were noticeable from the beginning, not to mention the Spider toxin and yeah, the ending. The husband being shot were a surprise though...

The moral theme here is - remnants from the past might come back and bite you if left unnoticed... tongue.gif

Anyway, I LOL'ed when seeing the part about Lee Harvey Osward though since my first knowledged of the guy was from Quantum Leap. And yeah, we probably gonna be seeing Osward again in TF3, well, maybe...

Can Angelina Jolie get saltier?

user posted image

Filmgoers who saw "Salt" well know how its ending was left open wider than Red Square. But will Sony drive through with a sequel?

The stars and principals that need to align have, at least, begun to come together.

Writer Kurt Wimmer has ideas for how to advance the story of the spy thriller, in which Evelyn Salt is a Russian plant in the highest echelons of the CIA who may or may not be working for her home country.

Director Phillip Noyce, for his part, is said to be interested in returning for a new installment. Scheduling and preferences would need to be worked out, however: Though the filmmaker doesn't officially have a new movie, he is involved with several high-priority development projects.

They include "Wenceslas Square," the indie thriller that was set to shoot in Serbia as early as this summer but has gotten hung up on casting issues as producers seek a big-name star. Noyce is also interested in directing Russell Crowe in the Australian love story "Dirt Music," which has long been a passion project for the director, though without financing yet, no one's moving on that one. And there's another romance film in the offing that would reunite Noyce with "Salt" producer Sunil Perkash.

Angelina Jolie had said that she's keen to work on a sequel; she has the Tim Burton film "Maleficent" and the big-franchise dreams of Kay Scarpetta waiting in the wings, but no commitment to a new movie now that she's finished Spyglass spy movie "The Tourist."

"Salt" producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura and, in particular, Sony remain a question, however. The line the studio has put out to insiders in Hollywood is that the the company wants to see how the film performs in key international territories -- over the coming weeks it opens in the U.K., Germany and numerous South American countries -- before deciding whether to move forward. The movie has performed reasonably well in the U.S., earning $96 million thus far, but the production cost $110 million, with marketing costs running along the usual lines for a star-driven action picture. And sequels tend to get pricier.

Then again, Sony has done the heavy lifting, launching an original script and an unknown title in a climate inhospitable to them. Now comes the easy part. Well, comparatively speaking.

Give me WANTED (which was much cooler and less predictable) anytime. But I heard she scrapped the sequel, which is a shame. No more bending bullets...booo.

I will say just watch it for the action. AJ did her role well.

The storyline plot holes are bad. But that's another post another time.

It might be late but I just watched it and I enjoyed it. What I like about the Salt that there isn't any dragging part. 1 Hours 30+mins flies fast due to non-stop action.

The sotryline is quite predictable and cliche but that don't really affect me much.

The moral of this story : Don't kill superb agent's husband coz you going to make her more pissed off...and it is silly to believe that people will always stay loyal to some iron-fist organization. The chances is none.

Phillip Noyce Isn’t Interested in Directing Salt 2

user posted image

I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised by how good Angelina Jolie’s spy thriller “Salt” was. I kept waiting for the movie to disappoint me, but it never did, right up to the very end. I’m not saying it was the greatest spy thriller ever made, of course, but it was a lot better than I had expected it to be. And of course, the filmmakers probably knew they had something going, because the ending of “Salt” left a big ol gaping room for a sequel, and word has screenwriter Kurt Wimmer already hard at work hacking away at that part two. Which raises the question: will “Salt” director Phillip Noyce return for a sequel?

Noyce tells Movieweb:

QUOTE
Oh no, I don’t think I would do a sequel. We had to edit and make new music and effects for the two director’s cuts, so I think that I’ve given all I can to the movie with those three versions. I would like to see a sequel
, but it would have to be another director with a new perspective.

He is referring to the fact that he actually edited three versions of the movie for the upcoming DVD/Blu-ray release at the request of the studio.

In any case, I’m not sure if it matters that Noyce isn’t coming back. As with the first movie, the big draw was and will continue to be Angelina Jolie. No offense to Noyce, of course, because while his direction was good, it isn’t exactly the kind of work that couldn’t be replicated by another seasoned director.

Salt Sequel is Officially a Go at Sony

user posted image

It looks like “Salt 2″ (quickie tagline: “This time, She’s Saltier!”) is a go over at Sony Pictures, with Deadline reporting that the studio has once again hired Kurt Wimmer, who penned the original, to return for the sequel.

The original “Salt” certainly leaves plenty of room for a sequel, and indeed, begs for one. Angelina Jolie starred as a CIA operative who had given up a field career for the love of a good man, only to find herself accused of being a Russian sleeper agent destined to assassinate a visiting diplomat. This, of course, leads to her going on the run, with her old crew giving chase. Political intrigue, decades-old conspiracies, and Russian bad guys eventually enter the fray.

“Salt” is a strange movie. I don’t recall that it had all that much hype entering the 2010 year, but it did end up doing very brisk business at home and abroad. The film would eventually go on to make $293 million worldwide (with an additional $20 million on DVD sales) from a $110 million dollar budget.

No word yet on whether Phillip Noyce, who directed the original, would return for the second go-round. The director currently has his hands full with a couple of high-profile projects, including the submarine actioner “Hunter Killer” for Relativity Media, as well as that remake of the Jean-Claude Van Damme tournament fighting film “Bloodsport”. And in any case, he’s already stated publicly that he has no interest in directing a sequel to “Salt”, so that would seem to put the kibosh on that idea.

Of course, getting Angelina Jolie back will be the ultimate decision on whether the sequel moves beyond the writing stage. Without Jolie, there is no “Salt 2″.
