Thanks wui. If that is the case, can you live without the buffer in your T-Amp?

A little progress on my T-Amp project.
The Buffer pre-amp project. Just completed the PCB this morning. This is the first time I tried to 'print' the silkscreen.. Still in long 'learning' curve.. For a 'prototype' board, I'd say it's okay Will need to drill those holes after this, populate the board and will start the installation/build up of the pre-amp assembly later in the afternoon. Hopefully can start testing/audition later tonite... Oh yes.. will post pix as required... wui, btw this is NOT the B1 buffer pre-amp circuit. This is a simpler/modified version. If this is ok, will start the B1 proper.. obviously Junior will inherit this board.. |

Thanks wui!
It's just a fibre/epoxyglass board (FR4, right?), copper clad on one side, bought from Maplin JP. Nice board.. will buy this in future! For the silkscreen you print a mirror image on a TP using laser printer then you iron on, simple! Perfboard too much hassle lah.. even stripboard! Now with a free software, Diptrace which is a whole lot better than EasyPCB which I was using earlier and a laser printer.. a PCB is like a few clicks away... QUOTE(wui223 @ Nov 2 2008, 01:27 PM) Jazzy: Nice pcb u made, i believe it is a FR4 board. How u print silkscreen? This one is photoresist board? This post has been edited by jazzy939: Nov 2 2008, 01:49 PMI use perfboard for the B1 buffer, takes time and the end result not so cool compared to pcb, unless it is something like Littleghost's works. |

ekool,
Your choice of words is kinda strong for comfort. Can you explain what you meant on the bolded, especially the underlined sentence? QUOTE(ekool @ Nov 3 2008, 01:04 AM) ... This post has been edited by jazzy939: Nov 3 2008, 08:31 AMthanks for pointing out jazzy's mistaken identity of me for mysghooi. i have seen/read his mistaken earlier and didn't bother about it cos if one can't get it right on who is who it speaks a lot about that person. what's more it happened not once. thanks again. .... |

hey there wui!
Wishing you all the best in your final paper. Wonder where your got yhe news.. Yes. it is up and running. I need to re-designed the circuit, change a few components values as the default gain is wee bit too high for my liking.. pix and/or report.. I'll think about it ler.. no time for it now. I have not been posting for quite awhile here.. QUOTE(wui223 @ Nov 6 2008, 01:57 PM) |

Hi JC,
When will you be back from Penang? (seems like you told me a long time ago.. I have selective memory The good part is, I have got all the required hardware ready. I got so engrossed with the buffer pre-amp that I kiv'ed your RCA converter You're not around, thats why! BUT nothing to it. 1/2 hour is all I need to do it. There were no mention of any TT Session since we had the last one at your place.. probably they had 'enough' QUOTE(junchoon @ Nov 6 2008, 04:05 PM) |

wui,
just concentrate on your exam/thesis. DIY will always be there waiting anyway, after listening the T-Amp with the buffer pre-amp, I no longer want to use 'passive' or my current 'active' Yamaha pre-amp! Oh.. what TT is that? Thorens? QUOTE(wui223 @ Nov 6 2008, 04:30 PM) |

weyy.. how come you remembered!
Actually I ordered a customised transformer which I will picked up this saturday for my GC project! Now that the T-Amp project is almost over, time to restart the GC amp project! Anyway this thread at times almost 'died'.. QUOTE(wui223 @ Nov 6 2008, 09:20 PM) |

Its the LM3886 chip. Got it from JP would you believe!
Yes. Not toroid. Maybe later I'll upgrade it to toroid if the situation warrants so, pending detailed audition against the T-Amp! QUOTE(wui223 @ Nov 6 2008, 10:14 PM) |

I got it for RM22 each. Its from Darson and I bought the last two!
I think there were LM3875 but I can't be sure. Yes, its custom wind for a 35V centre tap, 150VA.It's half the price of a toroid. I am also planning the tranny for another bench PSU so it's not a waste if I were to get a toroid later. I may also use point to point.. but since I'm kinda having a hang of making a PCB.. might take that path too.. QUOTE(wui223 @ Nov 6 2008, 10:23 PM) How much is the LM3886? i search high and low at JP, i think only find 1 or 2 shops selling but expensive. How much the transformer cost u? i guess u custom wind at JP also rite I read that LM3875 also good sound. Use point to point wiring if possible, the shorter the distance the nicer the sound, some claims. |

Y.C.,
I don't think gabanyayaya will be taking that path soon.. He got a discrete amp coming his way.. and then maybe a GainClone next.. BTW, I have NOT installed the Pana caps(and have not paid for it Was busy with my pre-amp buffer, I may install in on my second board though.. just to see if the Pana caps have a 'major' impact on the overall sound.. |

Y.C.,
I will concur to that! Playing around with the stock board and Junior's T-Amp initially have this 'inrush' current sounds from the speakers, muted but still there. After clocking more than 20 hours of burn in.. it's 'almost' gone.. A short one here. Been 'burning in' my buffer pre-amp since yesterday. Conclusion: It has taken my T-Amp to the 'next level'. In a nutshell; Bass is much 'thicker' and I feel a full bodied sound spectrum without ever losing the details that what made the T-Amp famous for.... Good bye Yamaha pre-amp and passive pre-amp! BTW, the buffer pre-amp is running on 9VDC battery |
