Y.C.,
Did you managed to locate the shop or get one? Yes. PM received and responded. QUOTE(Y.C. @ Aug 29 2008, 12:58 PM) It's alright, jazzy. I'd be going down town during my lunch break and was thinking of getting one in JP afterwards since I'm also getting my T-amps from xtorm later today. Just would need to walk into more shops and hager price with each of them. Hey, I thought you just got them yesterday? BTW, I already PMed you details of our order of Vishay BC caps/resistors with Farnell. |

QUOTE(jazzy939 @ Aug 29 2008, 05:55 PM) Jazzy,This afternoon was too rush; ran a few errants nearby my office area and it's already too late to go KL, so going down to JP tomorrow instead. Xtorm told me you indicated the shop is near Nixie and he asked me to be on a lookout for a young and skinny Chinese girl and that's the shop. Picked up my T-amps from xtorm this afternoon. Wow, the actual board is so small ya; don't know whether it got enough space for us to fit in those caps and resistors we ordered or not? And not forgetting the extreme care we need to exercise with the soldering iron. Thanks for concern. Y.C.,
Now that you see physically the little marvel.. it's unbelievable, right? When I was there, there were NO young skinny little gurl.. how come ah..? Yes.. I use a pencil point adjustable soldering iron for that.. don't really like SMD stuffs.. and the board is double-layered! Happy hunting tomorrow!!! Hahaha, I think it's more of symptom of my age slowly catching up with eyes straining to focus on close objects and hands not rock steady like my younger days. Naked, semi naked model or dead stuff, same sahaja lah! I thought those smps which come with our notebooks are neater looking and could be hidden behind cabinets, will check them out tomorrow too. Would the sound quality of our T-amps through these smps be more inferior than through the unit Jazzy bought? Anyone? This post has been edited by Y.C.: Aug 29 2008, 07:08 PM |

Y.C.,
My earlier test using the SMPS is quite similar to the laptop/notebook type PSU. Housed in a black plastic casing, it can be placed outside, out of sight! I have yet to compare, however the one that I bought is 'industrial grade' as ongbs put it.. Question is, can you get the black, good looking plastic SMPS as cheap? Yes, the little marvel looks much bigger in pictures and considering this small little fella to reproduce fine sounding music, it's quite unbelievable. I thought the soldering job was a 'lil rough and not refined but for RM55, I guess it's no issue here. Talking about soldering iron, I'll need one too as my made-in-China elchepo soldering iron was last used 5/6 years ago and it's now full of rust. Will buy a finer tip soldering iron just like you. |

If you could find one, it just works fine Yet to test 1.5A SPMS as my T-amp lying on the "operation table', gonna replace 20k volume VR to 100k one, and change the coils to thicker wire one as well...stay tune! Not at all Y.C.
I saw a fine great looking ANTEX going for RM55, a 25/30 watter. Will suit the job fine! See attached pix. There is also an 18W version! The HAKKO that I got is more expensive that that! It's a 20w/300W(pistol grip, push button for high temp application, ie the 300W). May be later I can show you my really fine tipped soldering iron that uses 12VDC. Extremely suitable for SMD works.. Wow, RM55 is definitely much much above my budget considering I use it very little.See attached pix. There is also an 18W version! The HAKKO that I got is more expensive that that!
